00:04So, first of all, how are you feeling about playing this World Cup?
00:09I feel good, man. It's a blessing to be here, to be able to play in this competition that, you
00:15know, everybody dream of, you know, playing in.
00:18So, you know, it's an honour to be here, not only for myself, but for the whole country. So, I'm
00:24really happy to be here.
00:25Also because you have a little strong childhood. You played in Haiti without shoes. You have to build your own
00:40balls.
00:41Yes. I mean, you know, those are the things that, you know, that made me the person that I am
00:50today, you know.
00:51But, you know, coming from that and today, you know, I got the opportunity to play in this competition.
00:57That's what makes all this, you know, so joyful. And I know that my parents, you know, are really proud
01:05and I'm happy to be able to, you know, coming from that and to make it here.
01:10You know, because going up in Haiti was not easy at all. You know, there's a lot. I had to
01:14survive, you know, and because I love this game, I had to find a way to play.
01:21And whether I lose a couple of my toenails or, you know, or I got glass going into my foot,
01:31you know, those are the things that makes me appreciate these things even more because I know what it's like
01:36to come from that.
01:37When you look back at that child period, what do you think? I mean, what's going on in your head?
01:45You dream about this? You ever experienced this? I mean, it's like when you were younger, if anyone told you
01:55that you were about to play the World Cup, what would you say to them?
02:00I mean, didn't I say you crazy? There's no way, you know, but this is why you can never say
02:07never. Everything is possible in life if you just walk towards it, you know, if you have a goal.
02:14So in all my life and everything that, you know, I've done, even coming to the U.S., I had
02:24to walk my way up, going to Europe without having any type of guarantee that I was making, I was
02:32going to find a team.
02:33But I had to take that chance, you know, to be able to prove that I can do it, you
02:39know, and I take that everywhere that I go.
02:42And for this World Cup, I believe also we can also do it. You know, even though the first game
02:48didn't go our way, you know, we still have a chance to compete and try to make something happen and
02:54make, you know, the whole country proud.
02:58And, you know, in my childhood, it's something that motivates me every day. And anything that I do is watches
03:06me going, you know, because it's not easy. It was not easy at all.
03:11Some days without food, you know, seeing my dad trying to, you know, find something, seeing my mother, you know,
03:20struggling to feed all of us, you know, someday, you know, she really had to, you know, choose between herself
03:28and us, you know, but obviously she always chose us.
03:33What would you think that that child, your aunt, will say to you now?
03:36Yeah, we did good, but it's not finished yet, you know, it's not finished. There's a lot that I can
03:44do. There's a lot that I can prove.
03:46So for me, this is just seeing, you know, my parents is at all of the games, you know, they're
03:52going to come to all of the games, just looking at them in the stands, you know, everything that we
03:58went through, it was worth it, you know.
04:01So now we can smile, I can eat whatever I want, I can go wherever I want, so it's a
04:08blessing.
04:08You have a big challenge in front of you. You play against Brazil, this Brazil isn't the big Brazil that
04:15was before, but how do you kind of stop this team?
04:19Because they have Vinny Junior, they have Rafinha, a lot of good players, Billy Marais.
04:23I mean, Brazil is still, Brazil is still the same team. It's still a big, it's still a big team,
04:30you know.
04:31Obviously people, they're not going to be satisfied with, you know, with Brazil, with everything that they do because of
04:40the name and of all the things that they have done in this competition.
04:44But you can never underestimate what Brazil can do because they have top quality players, they have a lot of
04:50players with a lot of experience.
04:52And also they have one of the legends that's, you know, that's back, that's coming back to also help them
04:59achieve something.
05:00So for us, it's still the same Brazil, we're still going to go out there to compete with them, we're
05:05going to fight and try to win the game, you know.
05:09So it's not going to be easy for them or for us, but we know that this is a big
05:17opportunity for us to not only show the world that, you know, we actually have talent and we have the
05:25quality and that we can compete against anybody.
05:27You know, so this is a big game.
05:31You as a striker, I want to confront two big names in the ender pack as Marquinhos and Ademno, I
05:38guess.
05:39How are you going to play against them?
05:43For me, it's always the same, the same way I always play.
05:46And some people, you probably don't know, but I play against Marquinhos in the Champions League, you know, and it
05:53was a good battle.
05:57And for me, I know what I can do.
06:01And I know that as a striker, they're going to respect what I can do also.
06:06I respect them as a defender, but I'm here to compete.
06:09I'm going to try to fight for every ball.
06:12I'm going to try to use my physicality, everything that I know that I can in order to help my
06:17team.
06:17And also try to score because that's what I'm here for.
06:21So, you know, I'm going to do everything in my power to put not only myself, but the country in
06:28the best position as possible.
06:30And an attack player like you, how can you describe Benny Jr.?
06:35He's a top player.
06:36You can't give him any space.
06:38You know, as a defender, when you see him on the line, you're like, it's going to be a long
06:42day because he doesn't stop.
06:44This is the truth, you know.
06:46He does not stop.
06:48But I know that we have a good right back who's playing at a top level in the French League.
06:57And, you know, we've been playing in the national team for a long, long time.
07:01And I know that he's ready for that battle.
07:03And I think this is the type as a player who's playing at a high level, you want those type
07:10of battle.
07:10You want to know where you are as a player.
07:12So, for me, when I play against those top defenders, I love it.

08:23So, there's going to be criticism whether, you know, even if Brazil won the game or didn't win the game.

09:29So, I mean, for us, you know, we've been, even us qualifying in the World Cup was like a shocking
09:37point to everybody.
09:38We probably had like, what, 2% chance of qualifying for the World Cup before everything starts.
09:46And look where we are today.
09:49And even for this tournament, you know, we were able to show what we can do, you know, as a
09:57team.
09:58And also, all the players that we have, all of us playing at some top level club.
10:03So, we have the qualities.
10:05And, you know, it's the first time people around the world was able to see us compete against a team
10:11like Scotland.
10:11You know, he was disappointed we didn't get the result that we wanted.
10:16But you can see that with just a little bit of luck, we could have get, you know, a tie
10:22or we could have won the game.
10:24But, you know, now we're moving on to the next game.
10:27We know that Brazil is going to try to do everything that they can.
10:31You know, they have a lot of players who can come deep, who can go, who can also go behind
10:36the line.
10:37A lot of technical players, they got a good strike that was good in the box.

10:43But we also know that what we can do, you know, we have a lot of players also, you know,

10:51And, but for us, we got to stick together as a team, defense as a team, attack as a team,

12:11you got to respect Calvert, the way they played, the fighting spirit. But, you know, Spain is going to be

12:25don't think you guys should be worried about them. You know, they're going to be okay. So.

14:23you know i would love to compete in that in that type of uh competition playing against those
14:28players because every game is intense you can see the fans are crazy and so you can you can imagine
14:35watching it on tv and actually being there it's another story so so you know and also i compete
14:42with um uh in europe against um what's that um um it was uh in in europa league yellow is
14:59yeah i think with villarreal yes i compete with against them and just seeing how there are the
15:04way to play football not only them but just in general i think that league fits me perfectly you
15:09know so but like i said whoever whoever is open whatever it is you know my future is open and
15:18obviously i have plenty of respect for my club and it's a conversation that you know they're gonna
15:23have with other people so you know who doesn't want to play spain i'm here you know but as christian
15:29what message do you would you like to to bring to or ask readers you know i just want to
