00:14Here's how these two young Canadians got together for tonight's matchup.
00:19Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, a heated rivalry, a tremendous rivalry that is building, and it is picking right here, right

01:24At the Royal Rumble, I want a title shot.
01:29I'll give you any kind of match you want.
01:31You and I are gonna face each other for that Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match.
01:59And here comes the challenger, Chris Jericho, for the Intercontinental title.
02:07And King Jericho assaulted by Chris Benoit, Jerry Saturn, last Thursday night on SmackDown.
02:14You've got to wonder what kind of shape Jericho is in here tonight.
02:19The bowling contest is the ladder match for the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship.
02:28Introducing first the challenger, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, weighing 227 pounds, Chris Jericho.
02:42Again, thanks to Chris Benoit, and his pal, Terry Saturn, last Thursday night on UPS SmackDown.
02:49Chris Jericho was hammered, his left arm took a beating, and that could be a huge factor in this matchup
02:57tonight.
02:57From Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, weighing 229 pounds, the World Wrestling Federation,
03:05Intercontinental Champion, Chris Benoit.
03:10It sounds like you're trying to give Y2J some sort of an excuse for the beating he's about to receive.
03:15Look, if he's not 100%, all he's gotta do is go up in your hand and say, I don't wanna
03:20be in his match tonight.
03:21I'm not ready to face the rabid Wolverine, but no, he's here.
03:24Jericho not gonna walk away from a fight, I'm not making excuses, just telling it like it is.
03:29And Jericho and Benoit, with the Intercontinental title hanging high above the ring,
03:34the only way to win this match is to secure the ladder, which is on the outside of the ring,
03:39bring it in, climb it, and retrieve the Intercontinental title belt.
03:43No pin calls, no submissions, no count outs, time limits, or disqualifications.
03:49It's real simple, you get the ladder, you climb it, and you retrieve the championship belt and you are the
03:55man.
03:56Yeah, but you know what, you make it all sound easy, look at this.
04:00Look out here, Benoit going to, attempting to expose that injured arm of Jericho,
04:06who's fighting frantically to prevent the good lacrosse.
04:10Look out, he's coming to Jericho too, there you go.
04:13And a kick out by Benoit.
04:15What was the first thing you say you have to do to win this match, just the first little part?
04:19Bring the ladder in the ring.
04:21There you go, and you make it sound like that's gonna be easy to do.
04:23I got a prediction for you, JR.
04:25I don't think that Chris Jericho is ever even gonna be able to touch that ladder.
04:29I think the rabid Wolverine will finish Jericho off before you ever,
04:32the ladder ever even comes into play.
04:34Well, you might be right, but bottom line is you still gotta, I think the ladder,
04:39the belt is still a little bit out of Benoit's reach, wouldn't you agree?
04:43Well, I'll agree with that, but what I'm saying is, Benoit will finish off Jericho,
04:47then go out and get the ladder and go up there unopposed.
04:49Well, that could happen.
04:51I'm not gonna argue that point, that is a possibility, there's no doubt about that.
04:54I talked to Benoit earlier, and he said that's his intentions.
04:57Full intentions, he ought to prove a point here.
04:59He is sick and tired of Y2J.
05:02The last time the Intercontinental title was offended in a ladder match here on
05:06Superview was in SummerSlam 98 when Triple H defeated The Rock in a ladder match.
05:14And Jericho, Benoit had that well scouted, and Jericho used the ropes,
05:19the springboard, looking for the dropkick, I would assume.
05:24It's about as close as Jericho's gonna get to that ladder.
05:26At least he is out of the ring.
05:27Where's Jericho?
05:29It was just under one year ago that Chris Benoit debuted here in the WWF with
05:34The Radicals, as Benoit now headed toward that ladder, and Jericho right behind his fellow Canadian.
05:41Here we go, and Jericho with that left shoulder and arm exposed,
05:47ran right into the ring post, which is solid steel.
05:51Where Benoit had gone right over there and slapped that triplet crossface on that hurt arm right now.
05:57Well, if you're Benoit, you've been missing a two, and you're not.

06:02I got almost as many as Edge.

06:08Benoit, and again, driving Terracore into the ring steps.
06:13And it seems as if Benoit is about to step ahead of his challenger here tonight at the Royal Rumble.

06:21Maybe that beating from Benoit and Saturn did take a little bit out of Y2J.
06:25But I was right, Y2J should have backed out of this match tonight.
06:31And Benoit, and this may be a short one, as Benoit going to climb the ladder here.

06:38And retrieve the intercontinental title back.
06:40And there's Jericho, trying to make sure that doesn't happen.
06:45No.
06:46And Benoit dropping Jericho backwards.
06:50And that, now Jericho's got the opportunity to go to the ladder, but
06:54apparently he doesn't feel that Benoit is in a.
06:57Now, that's the whole idea here, Benoit, you gotta pretty much incapacitate your opponent to
07:01have enough time to climb that ladder and get that belt.
07:04Worst thing you wanna do is get stuck at the top of that ladder and have your opponent
07:07catch you up there, then you're completely at his mercy.
07:10And it looks like- No, speaking of at his mercy.
07:13Jericho's gonna use the ladder as a weapon.
07:16And running ahead of Jericho Benoit.
07:20Jericho's left arm dropping at his side, but Jericho wisely used that ladder much like
07:26a tag team partner or a secret, well, not a very secret, a public weapon, if you will.
07:31I don't think that's fair, he's not supposed to have a tag team partner in his house.

13:31Of course, the ladder matches, in my opinion, made famous by Shawn Michaels here in the WWF.
