00:00There is that humorous story of a student of Buddha.
00:03He came to Buddha and said,
00:04I am now well versed in all the disciplines.
00:07I have learnt everything that you had to offer.
00:09So I now want to go out.
00:11I want to graduate out of your ashram.
00:13Buddha said, fine.
00:13But before that, why don't you go and meet one of my bhikshunis, a lady hermit.
00:18And he goes to her and she lived at a high place.
00:21One had to approach through a flight of stairs.
00:23And the fellow is climbing up and he comes to her and he is thinking,
00:26it's hot and I'm tired and sweating.
00:28And she comes to him and offers a towel.
00:30He says, great.
00:30She's giving me exactly what I needed.
00:32But won't it be better if I get some cool water also?
00:35And immediately some water comes.
00:36He has not yet expressed his desire.
00:38He says, good luck.
00:39Everything that I'm wishing for is coming to me.
00:41So she says, why don't you just sit down and relax?
00:43So he sits down and relaxes for a while.
00:45And then he thinks, it's time for some food now.
00:47But what food can this lonely woman offer me?
00:50And within the next few minutes, she comes in with exactly the kind of food he could have hoped for.
00:55Now he starts feeling a little something.
00:57What's going on?
00:58The moment he thinks what's going on, she says, no, nothing is going on.
01:01You just enjoy your food.
01:03Even before he can finish his lunch, he gets up and runs away.
01:06And he goes to the Buddha.
01:06Buddha said, I asked you to spend three days with her.
01:09You returned within three hours.
01:10What's the matter?
01:11He says, no, no, no.
01:12You tell me what's going on.
01:13And Buddha says, when your own mind has fallen silent,
01:18then you can read the movement all around.
01:21So Buddha says, she is an example of a graduate.
01:24She has really graduated.
01:26Now you ask yourself whether you are fit for graduation.
