00:00I learned about ADD after being on the medication.
00:03I didn't know what it was. All I knew it was for school.
00:05And then when I got here and I was like, holy shit, everybody takes Adderall. Everyone.
00:13I take it right when I wake up. It takes about 40 minutes to kick in.
00:16And you can feel it. I start to sweat.
00:19My heart accelerates.
00:21My handwriting got neater. I thought that was so cool.
00:24My mind came alive. My body felt alive.
00:28It works like a bang.
00:32Adderall warning. Side effects may include being awesome at everything.
00:37Every generation has found a different way to try to enhance their performance.
00:41Now in this case, it has been ADHD drugs.
00:44This ain't new.
00:46It's not like a glass of wine or a joint or any way that people use to decompress.
00:51I really see it as a supplement, as a tool.
00:54And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
00:55So then you're primed that a pill is going to give me what I want.
00:59I felt this, like, mounting pressure from work to start using my prescription.
01:03That says something about our culture right now.
01:05It makes me kind of depressed.
01:09We probably have meds for that.
01:12Everyone has a little ADD.
01:14No, we have distractions.
01:16But not everyone has a brain that functions like somebody who's with ADHD.
01:20I wouldn't say that I'm happy to have Adderall, but I'm happy that Adderall is an option for you.
01:26There are cardiovascular risks.
01:29Psychotic episode.
01:30You wouldn't wish that on your worst enemy.
01:32I got everything I wanted.
01:34And there's no way any of that would have been possible without the medication.
01:37The perfect employee is somebody that doesn't say no.
01:40There is a culture of you do stay up 16 hours for seven days straight.
01:45I've had a seizure from exhaustion.
01:49You want to be beautiful and you want to have amazing grades.
01:53And Adderall just sort of sews it all up for you.
01:56Adderall.
01:56It's a drug of our time.
01:57This focus on material progress and productivity, what's the cost of that?
02:06And is that a cost we're willing to live with?
02:27Thank you.
02:28Thank you.
02:29Thank you.
02:29Thank you.
