00:00Woosnam once said if Montgomery, Colin Montgomery, played Blades, he wouldn't be on tour.
00:04Montgomery famously always played game improvement irons
00:06and ultimately went to Big Bertha through the bag.
00:09Thoughts?
00:09Well, Joe, you frequented Monty's life quite a few times, haven't you?
00:14Precision looked after him for a while?
00:16Not me personally.
00:17But you've been in and around the fittings.
00:19What do you think to that?
00:20I think that might be possibly either a misquote or just a tongue-in-cheek comment from Woosnam there
00:26because whether or not it was game improvement and chunky, I've seen the wear patterns on his irons
00:31and it doesn't matter what he was playing, he found the middle of the golf club an awful, awful lot.
00:37It was more just a look thing for Montgomery from what I could see.
00:40He loved heavy offset, which you only really found hugely prevalent in the bigger, chunkier irons.
00:46And he was also, I think, down the route of, you know, why I'm playing this game for a living?
00:51It's my job.
00:52Why would I make this any more difficult for myself?
00:56But, I mean, yeah, rightly said, there's still out Precision Golf, actually, I think, in a frame in the foyer.
01:05There's heads of the irons that he used at the, I think it was the 2002 Ryder Cup,
01:11where he went out first and duffed up Scott Hoke in the singles with his old Odyssey belly putter.
01:16Yeah, if anyone's ever in the Surrey area, pop into Precision Golf and have a look at the irons in
01:22the frame,
01:22in the reception area of Precision Golf.
01:24And if you want to see some big, chunky soles, they're big bertha irons, thick leading edge,
01:31big, chunky soles, and an offset that's about half a mile in front of the leading edge,
01:35they're remarkable.
01:36And a very light flex in his shaft, no?
01:39In that three-wood at the time, yes.
01:41That was a grey and pinky three-wood.
01:44I can't even remember the brand, but I remember Simon said he frequency analysed.
01:49It was about, bearing in mind, 6.0 is stiff on the Project X scale.
01:55This was about 3.2, I think.
01:57Wow.
01:57Ladies.
01:58New flex unlocks from Monty.
02:00Yeah.
