00:00An update on the saga at England cricket. The captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson of the England
00:08side have been dropped from the squad ahead of the second test against New Zealand after breaching team protocols.
00:17The England and Wales cricket board have now confirmed the news. The pair were ruled unavailable for selection following an
00:27alleged breach of England's newly introduced midnight curfew that came after the Ashes series.
00:34Both players were reportedly present at a nightclub when an altercation involving a Saracens rugby player occurred in the early
00:43hours of Monday morning.
00:46An investigation into the incident remains ongoing and as a result Joe Root has been appointed interim captain for the
00:56match at the Kia Oval in South London which begins on June the 17th.
01:01Now Root previously led England in a record 64 tests before stepping down in 2022 and handing the captaincy over
01:10to Ben Stokes.
01:12Despite speculation surrounding Stokes' future as England captain, Sky Sports News have reported that concerns about the 35-year-old's
01:22long-term position have eased somewhat.
01:26The ECB said Stokes and Atkinson had not been made available for selection in the second test while the inquiries
01:36continue.
01:37It remains to be seen whether either player will return for the third and final test against New Zealand as
01:44well.
