00:23Temporarily rebranded as Mexico City Stadium for the World Cup, the venue will host five matches during the tournament,
00:29including the opening game between Mexico and South Africa.
00:32This stadium has witnessed some of football's greatest moments.
00:36Pele lifted the World Cup here in 1970.
00:39Mauricio Rocha Eterbide was in the stands at Estadio Esteca in 1986,
00:44when Diego Maradona produced one of the most memorable performances in World Cup history against England.
00:50When Maradona made these two beautiful goals, the goal was going on all the fields,
00:56dribbling the people to have the goal, and then the other one that is more important,
01:01that is the goal of the hand of God.
01:03I can tell you that we were in the city, we never see the hand. I mean, he was very
01:08smart.
01:08For Mexican football fan Pablo Anguiano, the memories are more recent.
01:13He traveled to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup and witnessed Argentina's victory firsthand.
01:19It was amazing because I really enjoyed the city, and you can say that you have the most exciting final
01:28in the World Cup against Argentina and France.
01:33And now, after Qatar 2022, the World Cup is heading back to Mexico City.
01:39Last Saturday, thousands of football fans gathered in the capital to perform a massive human wave,
01:45hoping to set a new Guinness World Record.
01:47Outside the stadium, the countdown to 2026 is already taking shape.
02:13As the 39-day tournament kicks off across the United States, Canada and Mexico,
02:18millions of fans are expected to travel between the three host nations.
