Tragedy struck the Ateneo men’s basketball team as young guns Divine Adili and Rene Clert Baterbonia passed away following a drowning incident, the school announced Monday evening, June 8.

Since the incident, there had been calls from public to demand justice for the two victims, as well as a fact-finfing panel created by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Here are the latest updates so far.

00:11official statement confirmed the passing of 21-year-old Divine Adili and 19-year-old Rene
00:17Clirt Baterboña during the university's team-building activity held in Dipakolao, Aurora.
00:23An investigation by the Police Regional Office 3 indicated that they were swept away by a strong
00:28current while swimming. The Ateneo community mourned the loss of its two promising talents
00:34as well as the entire Philippine basketball community with fellow UAAP athletes and PBA
00:40players expressing their condolences. Since the incident, public outrage and calls for justice
00:46ensued over social media as videos featuring the Atenean victims resurface, detailing what some
00:53described as a rigorous military training program under longtime head coach Tab Baldwin.
00:59Baterboña's mother joined the call for justice, claiming the lack of information she received on
01:04her son's fate made the tragedy even more painful. The Philippine Sports Commission then announced on
01:10Tuesday, June 9, that it is forming a fact-finding panel to look into the tragic incident of the Blue
01:15Eagles players, which will be composed of members from the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas, UAAP,
01:22CHED, and the National Youth Commission. The Aurora Provincial Police Office have ruled upon initial
01:28investigation that the drowning was an accident and there were no signs of criminal involvement
01:33based on the evidence gathered.
