Dans la liste de l’Angleterre pour la Coupe du Monde 2026, certains choix de Thomas Tuchel peuvent surprendre au premier regard. Ivan Toney, Djed Spence et Jordan Henderson ne sont pas forcément les noms les plus attendus, mais chacun répond à une logique précise dans la construction du groupe anglais.  Toney n’est pas pris pour être titulaire. Tuchel ne le voit pas comme son numéro 9 principal, puisque Harry Kane garde évidemment ce statut. Son rôle sera surtout celui d’un attaquant de surface capable de finir les matchs, d’apporter une présence différente dans la surface et de peser quand l’Angleterre aura besoin d’un profil plus direct.  Djed Spence, lui, surprend davantage. Il est convoqué alors que Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lewis Hall ou Myles Lewis-Skelly ne sont pas dans la liste. Mais ce qui joue en sa faveur, c’est sa vitesse, sa polyvalence et sa capacité à défendre des deux côtés. Tuchel semble chercher un latéral capable d’apporter de l’intensité, de gagner ses duels et de répondre à plusieurs scénarios.  Jordan Henderson est dans une autre logique. Il ne devrait pas être titulaire, mais son expérience compte énormément pour Tuchel. Dans une compétition longue, le vestiaire, l’harmonie du groupe et la gestion des moments difficiles peuvent peser.
