00:03NASA is hoping to send humans back to the moon soon, for the first time in over 50 years.
00:08However, for the first time ever, the Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO has just
00:14successfully landed an unmanned craft on the lunar surface. This is the second attempt at
00:18a moon landing by the country. India's last attempt to reach the lunar surface was back
00:22in September 2019, but ISRO lost contact with the spacecraft as it was set to descend. The
00:28debris from the crash was later discovered around 370 miles away from its intended landing spot.
00:33The recent successful touchdown is also a first for humanity, as the ISRO's craft is the first to
00:39land on the moon's south pole, an area many believe has water. However, this wasn't the only moon
00:43landing scheduled for this week on the southern pole of Earth's only natural satellite. Russia's
00:48space program was hoping to beat India's to a moon landing. However, they lost contact with their
00:52spacecraft as it got ready to enter its landing orbit. Roscosmos said after the failure that the
00:57spacecraft lost contact with mission control, causing it to enter the moon's orbital path
01:01and crash. India's government says they hope this successful moon landing will encourage
01:06private space firm investment in their country.
