00:01Last time on Battle on the Beach.
00:04We're working with three vacation homes
00:06that are in need of a major glow up.
00:09Each week, you will be assigned an area in the house to renovate.
00:12You'll need to bring your A-game if you want a chance at winning the $50,000 prize.
00:17We are kicking off the competition with The Living Room.
00:21Angelina and Steven, they are full of energy.
00:23I'll try not to make the design too crazy.
00:26How are you two feeling?
00:28The numbers be killing me, like the budget.
00:32Anna and Josiah, I feel like this is a match made in heaven.
00:36What about the axis?
00:37It's going right here.
00:39Yes!
00:41I'm excited to work with Michelle and Sydney, a mother and daughter team.
00:45We've got the ceiling, we've got the beams.
00:46We can't build any more stuff.
00:48I feel like I need to take five.
00:50Uh-oh.
00:51Is it me?
00:51No, it's me.
00:52It's coming together.
00:54It's gonna look good.
00:55You guys have been busy.
00:58Hi!
00:58Good work, everybody.
01:00It's time to bring in our judges.
01:03Oh, wow.
01:04Welcome, welcome.
01:06Oh, my gosh.
01:08Ooh.
01:09Adding a bedroom on the main floor.
01:11Is a major value add.
01:14I don't want to say old, but old.
01:17So the winner of this week's space is...
01:21Angelina Stevens!
01:26Congratulations.
01:27You've won the living room battle.
01:29But we are just getting started.
01:31Tonight, you'll be taking on the kitchen.
01:34So head back to your houses and get started.
01:36This week's battle starts right now.
01:40Woo!
01:40Woo!
01:46So, the kitchen.
01:48What are we thinking as far as this counter?
01:51Do you like it here?
01:52I really don't, but what do you think?
01:54More flow so that people can, like, walk around?
01:56Okay.
01:57Hey.
01:58Brainstorming is happening.
01:59Yes, it is.
02:00I love it.
02:01So what did we learn from week one?
02:03Time.
02:04Time management.
02:05Okay.
02:06What are you thinking?
02:07We are thinking possibly pushing it over a little bit
02:10and opening up this counter space
02:13so that it creates more of a flow
02:16so that you can still talk to whoever is in the dining room.
02:20We're trying to bring this over here.
02:22Right now, the kitchen feels a little disconnected
02:25from the dining area,
02:26so we think removing the peninsula should improve the flow.
02:29Last week, we won with our transitional beach resort feel,
02:32so we'll carry that style into the space
02:34to create multiple focal points in here.
02:37We can add cabinetry along both walls.
02:40On the opposite side, we might have to lose the small window
02:43so we can build a custom range hood along this wall.
02:46We love all the light that this big window lets in,
02:49but we're hoping to figure out a way to update the style
02:52so it fits better with the rest of our modernized kitchen.
02:54For the dining area, we're going to take advantage of this nook
02:58by building a large banquette that capitalizes on these amazing water views.
03:02And we'll do it all for about $26,000.
03:06All right, so I think we've got the flow.
03:08We've got some colors, but there's a lot of work.
03:10Yes.
03:10Yes, it is.
03:11All right.
03:12Okay, we already know that the kitchen is going to be a space that's going to be critical.
03:18It just feels dated to me again, just this design.
03:20I like the direction it faces, but I don't know if I love the peninsula.
03:25We want to somehow make it less of a bulky piece and maybe make it down to one level.
03:31It's very tight.
03:31If the dishwasher's open, you're not going nowhere.
03:34You're trapped.
03:36Definitely do something here on the backsplash.
03:39Get rid of the mermaid.
03:40Yeah.
03:40We do need to figure out, though, what kind of mood and what kind of color tones we want in
03:44here.
03:44So we got some cabinets.
03:45Should we take a little peek?
03:47Yeah.
03:47I was feeling wood tones just because it's timeless.
03:50So these are the cabinets that we use in the upstairs kitchenette.
03:53I agree we should just use those again to keep our design cohesive throughout the entire house.
03:57I think that's going to tie well together.
03:59Yeah, okay.
04:00And we can put pops of color.
04:02Yeah.
04:02We can do a backsplash or have a veining in the countertop.
04:06I was thinking maybe green for the countertop.
04:09Yes.
04:09I will say one thing.
04:10Green countertop will make this kitchen memorable.
04:12It will.
04:13In a good way or a bad way.
04:15Hopefully we can make some more green in the rental rate.
04:17That's right.
04:19We're going to maximize this kitchen space by updating the old dated layout.
04:23Adding a statement hood vent could be a great way to stop the scroll,
04:26so we want to custom build something that adds a wow factor to the space.
04:30Using the same wood cabinets as the upstairs kitchenette should help carry our modern boutique vibe into the kitchen.
04:37Since we added a new living room slider, we can close up this old door, which would create the perfect
04:42spot for a big banquette.
04:44We're hoping the layout change and unique design elements will help us make up for the smaller size of this
04:49kitchen.
04:49It should all cost us around $28,500.
04:54All right.
04:54You better find that green countertop, girl.
04:56Okay.
04:56I'm going to lose sleep until you call me and say this is the one.
04:59Yeah.
05:00Ah!
05:03So what are we thinking?
05:04So what if we move the kitchen from here to over there?
05:10What do you think?
05:10I do like the idea of the island being closer to the windows.
05:13Yeah.
05:14And then what becomes, what does this become?
05:16Mudrum.
05:17Mudrum.
05:18Pantry as well.
05:19The pantry.
05:21I don't want to see a wall here that turns this big wide open space into something smaller.
05:26Hear me out.
05:26Yeah.
05:27Interior windows that let some natural light into this little dark little nook.
05:32I do like that.
05:33Well, let's talk color and texture.
05:35Let's take a look at these samples, yeah?
05:37So like.
05:38We were originally thinking we were gonna go with green or beige.
05:43I think you'd go green.
05:45It's a bold move, but I think this kitchen can be insanely beautiful.
05:49This space needs a full reconfiguration.
05:52We'll improve flow by relocating the kitchen to the old dining area and trying to update
05:56our coastal cottage theme with more modern finishes.
05:59Then, we'll add a large banquette in the nook to take advantage of the beach side views.
06:04We want to try and maximize rental potential with the old kitchen area by adding a unique
06:08pantry with a small mudroom that gives us the additional space to hang beach gear.
06:13All for a budget of $24,500.
06:16You guys ever done a battle cry?
06:19Do you know what that is?
06:20No.
06:21It's when you scream loud that you put the fear of God into your enemy.
06:26I'm gonna lead off and show you what this looks like.
06:28You ready?
06:29It's good.
06:29Mm-hmm.
06:39We are about to demolish a kitchen.
06:41Remember, you can't spell safety without TY.
06:46Let's do this.
06:49Come on.
06:51She means business.
06:53Freeze!
06:55Suck it.
06:55Yeah!
06:57You gotta want it!
06:59You gotta want the win!
07:00You gotta want it!
07:02Yeah!
07:04Yeah!
07:06Yeah!
07:06Ah!
07:07There we go!
07:07Oh, there we go.
07:08Are we harvesting any mermaid scales today?
07:12No!
07:12No!
07:13There we go.
07:15We've got all the gems in this house.
07:17We've got carpeting.
07:19We've got linoleum.
07:20A little bit of cockroaches.
07:23The mildew.
07:24Yes.
07:25That's three different floors.
07:27We need to get this flooring up.
07:30One little pool.
07:31Ready?
07:31One, two, three!
07:32Ah!
07:33Amazing.
07:34What you guys doing?
07:35Hey!
07:37I have nothing to see here!
07:39I really want my team to win this competition,
07:42and whatever they need me to do,
07:44I'm gonna be the best mentor possible.
07:46Hey!
07:47I'm coming to creep at your house later.
07:49Okay!
07:49See you later.
07:49Give us some time.
07:50Give us some time.
07:51Lock that door, please.
08:00What is that?
08:01What is that?
08:02Oliver!
08:03You hear that?
08:03What is that?
08:04I don't know.
08:05Teams, we're gonna go slab shopping!
08:10Hello, teams!
08:12Who's ready to do some slab shopping?
08:15Okay, okay!
08:17I hope you've got a ticket to ride!
08:19Let's go!
08:20Let's go!
08:21Sydney!
08:22Michelle!
08:23Woo!
08:23Hey, guys!
08:24Hey, we're going slab shopping!
08:26Snacks?
08:28Slab shopping!
08:29Oh!
08:30Snacks!
08:30I can use a snack, too!
08:35Let's go.
08:36So exciting.
08:37This is the best way to go slab shopping.
08:40So today, we're taking a field trip to the slab yard, and we need to pick the perfect countertops for
08:47our kitchen.
08:48All right, guys!
08:49Hey, remember!
08:50It's first come, first serve!
08:52Oh, no!
08:52Hold up!
08:53Back up!
08:54Yes!
08:54We got it!
08:55Let's go!
08:55Let's go!
08:58That is bold.
09:00Left, right, left, right!
09:01Up, down!
09:01You guys can turn on that side if you want.
09:03We can double up.
09:04That's too blue.
09:05Do we need to go faster?
09:07Is someone gonna steal ours?
09:09It's first come basis, so it's a little bit chaotic.
09:12Everybody's walking around trying to pick out a countertop, and we want to make sure that none of the other
09:16teams select what we want.
09:18But we also don't want to show them our cards yet.
09:21Excuse me, this is our aisle!
09:24I don't hate it.
09:25That feels like I'm scuba diving.
09:27We're at the beach!
09:28I mean...
09:28Is $10,000 crazy to spend on countertops?
09:31It is 10% of the budget.
09:32That's just one finish in one room of this entire house.
09:37I know.
09:38All right, let's keep moving.
09:38Okay, yeah.
09:40The more, like, emerald color?
09:41Mm-hmm.
09:42That's our primary choice.
09:44Yes.
09:44And then...
09:45Uh-uh!
09:46I just see somebody creeping up!
09:48What'd you guys decide?
09:50And then...
09:50What'd you decide?
09:51What about this?
09:53Huh?
09:53Too much white?
09:55Yeah, no.
09:55That doesn't have a lot of oomph.
09:56We need somebody with a little more oomph.
09:58I was like, I'm just gonna...
10:00Keep my mouth shut.
10:01Keep my mouth shut.
10:03Oh, God.
10:04Oh, Lord.
10:06Oh, gosh.
10:09That's pretty.
10:10Look at it!
10:10Let's keep shopping.
10:12It's a little too vibrant.
10:14So we're trying to go more earthy?
10:16Like, a little bit more true?
10:17Yes, yeah.
10:17But that's...
10:19Hannah first said that she wanted green countertops.
10:22I was a little concerned.
10:23It's very risky.
10:25It's very much a commitment.
10:27But I think after we walk through and see some options,
10:30I think we can infuse some green,
10:33but make it a little bit more subtle.
10:35Is this too subtle?
10:37That's way too subtle.
10:39In my opinion.
10:39It's just not enough...
10:41Baboom.
10:42...not enough contrast.
10:43I get a little scared.
10:44I get a little nervous about going bold.
10:47I like subtle sometimes.
10:48That's pretty nice, too.
10:49No, too much.
10:51Okay.
10:51I don't know.
10:52I already know this is about to be fire, bro.
10:55Oh.
10:56Give me the thing.
10:58Did you see that?
11:00Yes.
11:00Oh, my God.
11:01No, this one isn't.
11:03I'm not.
11:04We're not moving.
11:05I'm gonna let you both pick the stone.
11:07It's my kitchen.
11:07I'm picking it.
11:08It's my kitchen!
11:10That's the first time I've heard Steven just take full control!
11:13Yes.
11:13This is gorgeous.
11:15Ty!
11:15Ty!
11:16I don't know.
11:17You like it because it doesn't have any veining,
11:19and I'm the opposite.
11:20It does have any.
11:21Yeah, it has minimal veining.
11:23Yeah, no.
11:24Yeah, you agree with me, right?
11:25There's just not enough veins.
11:26There's not enough veins.
11:26Okay.
11:27I just thought it would be pretty.
11:28Which one do you like better?
11:29Do you like the green one better?
11:30Or the other?
11:30Listen to me!
11:37You guys are gonna have to make a decision quick.
11:39Yep, yep.
11:39So I still think that's the one for you guys.
11:41Okay.
11:42Okay.
11:43You okay with it?
11:45Compared to the subtle veining vibes that I usually
11:48I'm drawn towards, it's definitely bold.
11:51But I like it.
11:52Okay.
11:52I think you guys are right.
11:54We need to go a little bolder.
11:55Are we agreeing?
11:56Yeah.
11:56This could be the first time we've had a solid agreement.
12:00Ooh, that's pretty.
12:01I'm not mad at it.
12:02Yeah, I'm not mad at that.
12:03It's not the total vibe I thought, but I'm open to it.
12:06Like, hints of green, and then you get the bolder pieces.
12:09This second choice could still work, and it's not compromising still having the green.
12:13Yeah, I'm totally in agreement.
12:15Yeah, I love that beautiful, expensive piece, but if we can't use it...
12:19Yeah, second choice is still good, too.
12:21It's beautiful.
12:22Okay.
12:41Nice.
12:42Let's give Mika an update.
12:44Hey Mika, we've been working hard.
12:46This is our appliance garage.
12:47The cabinets are gonna be mounted out here, and then the upper up here.
12:51We're gonna do like a pull-out shelf, so you can pull out all your appliances and access them.
12:57In our dining room, it's been a lot of mudding and taping, but we have coffered ceilings now.
13:02And we built our whole banquette seating all the way around.
13:04We haven't installed it yet.
13:06So let us know if you have any questions, and we'll see you soon.
13:10We have to make a dedicated dining space.
13:14Nice.
13:14What if we put some storage underneath that seating?
13:18In the banquette?
13:19Well, that'd be a good idea.
13:20So we'll finish framing out this one, and get that one up on the wall.
13:24Okay.
13:24Hold it up.
13:27No, we're good.
13:29Good job.
13:30Great job.
13:33Babe.
13:34Yeah?
13:35So we just got the quote back for the window.
13:38Remember how we wanted to take it out and mirror this window?
13:41Yeah, put this window over.
13:43$5,000.
13:45Eli.
13:46I'm dead serious.
13:47Okay, so what you thinking?
13:48Yeah.
13:49Just block it off?
13:50Just block it off.
13:51The view is over here.
13:53This is the view.
13:53Do you think Sarah and the judges will agree with that?
13:57I think Sarah will understand, because $5,000 is a lot to spend on a window.
14:03It's too soon in this race to be throwing $5,000 in less than eight feet of space.
14:09Yeah, I agree.
14:11All right.
14:14Let's chalk line out this banquette.
14:16Okay.
14:17We'll get a square measurement off the wall, and then we can go from there.
14:21My goodness.
14:22Look at that line.
14:34Hell yeah.
14:38Woo!
14:39Oops.
14:41All right.
14:41Let's see.
14:42Moment of truth.
14:43Oh!
14:44Oh yeah.
14:44Beautiful.
14:45We are having some interior windows in our kitchen.
14:48Careful.
14:48Careful.
14:49Careful.
14:49Allowing light to go through the two spaces.
14:59Squeeze me.
15:02There we go.
15:05Nice.
15:09Wait.
15:10Can we just make the arch out of drywall?
15:12Yeah, yeah.
15:17It's gonna look so pretty.
15:24I think our biggest stressor right now is the time constraint.
15:27We're just not used to that, and we're definitely feeling it.
15:30All right.
15:31Let's get back to work.
15:31All right.
15:36Hannah, are you okay?
15:37Yes.
15:37Okay.
15:38What's wrong?
15:38Just feeling a little overwhelmed.
15:44Now I just feel like I don't really see how we're supposed to get this whole house done.
15:49It just doesn't really feel like we're getting much done.
15:54I'm just feeling a lot of pressure, and yeah, it's just a little frustrating.
16:01It's hard.
16:05I can start painting, and you can work on this or something like that, because I kind of feel like
16:08I'm just standing here.
16:17Let's just keep going.
16:19Okay.
16:20The energy is low.
16:21The vibes are low.
16:23It's just part of the competition, and that's what it is, and I just got to get used to it.
16:26Fun times.
16:38Do you think this is still a good idea?
16:40Yes.
16:40Is the window going to do this?
16:42Yes, I do.
16:42Make it sure.
16:43Make it sure.
16:45How are you feeling about an epoxy art?
16:47Yes.
16:48Yes.
16:49Let's do it.
16:49I like to do custom work.
16:51I do a lot of work with epoxy.
16:54I used to say I was an artist before I was a contractor.
16:57That looks cute.
16:58But literally, it's like they go hand in hand because I'm just creating.
17:03This right here is what's going to set us apart.
17:18I'm loving it.
17:19A lot has changed.
17:21This is great.
17:22I'm pretty stoked you guys went with this color.
17:24I think it's going to work well.
17:24I do too.
17:25I'm glad you pushed for a little more contrast.
17:27Glad to hear that.
17:29I do hear you.
17:29You do hear you.
17:30Do you understand that now?
17:31We actually listen.
17:33It's great to be heard.
17:34Sometimes we follow through with it and sometimes we don't.
17:37This is exciting stuff.
17:38I'm feeling trust is happening with the team.
17:41They did go with my cabinet color suggestion.
17:44And so this is the actual pantry?
17:46Yes.
17:46Okay, so this could be a coffee station, a wine fridge.
17:49Wine fridge right here.
17:50Okay.
17:50And then the room behind this wall is...
17:53Mudroom.
17:54Mudroom.
17:55Okay.
17:56Let's get these kitchen cabinets together.
18:01Once it's painted, it's like you see everything.
18:04I want it to be perfect, but you can't get it.
18:08But really, it's not that bad.
18:09We did a pretty good job.
18:12Hello.
18:14Boss is here.
18:15Boss is here.
18:16Shape up.
18:16Actually, those are the bosses.
18:18So the first thing I did notice is we have like this architectural feature with an arch.
18:23My only issue is this.
18:25Because I do feel like if I'm cooking here, I would have to be like...
18:31We're going for an architectural feature that's going to wow the judges, but they are going to be very nitpicky.
18:37I don't want to give them any opportunity to ding.
18:41Sometimes the truth can hurt a little bit, but my job here is to somewhat be a judge before the
18:48judges arrive.
18:49So if I see something that I know is going to be a negative, I have to let them know
18:54now while there's still time to fix it.
18:56Practice does make perfect.
18:57Uh-huh.
18:58She's like, this is my arch enemy.
19:00I hate it.
19:01For real.
19:07Hello there.
19:10Welcome.
19:10Oh my gosh.
19:11Welcome, welcome.
19:12You guys have been busy.
19:14So busy.
19:14Very busy.
19:15No window?
19:15Oh yes.
19:16What a difference that big window made in the little one here in the kitchen.
19:19Yes.
19:20But does it feel like it's missing or does it feel like it's okay?
19:24We had talked about getting some type of window in here.
19:28Did that just get...
19:29Budget did not allow for that.
19:34I'm just so big on natural light and how important that is.
19:37I'm never one to take out a window.
19:39I'm a little unsure of the reasoning as to why they chose to do this.
19:44We have a beautiful hood that's gonna be coming here, so you're not even gonna miss that window.
19:55I'm just so big on natural light and how important that is.
19:58We feel like the view is out there and not the neighbors.
20:01We're not gonna be like, oh my God, look at that HVAC.
20:04You're forgetting who you're talking to.
20:06I may have judged all of this.
20:08We all have different opinions, but it doesn't feel too dark.
20:12Like you still have the sliding door.
20:14You still have another window.
20:16It's plenty of light.
20:17I wanna show you some really cute artwork that we also worked on while we had some time.
20:22These are some shells and different things that we found.
20:25We have a lot of wall space now.
20:27So now we can hang some of these so that we can bring some color in.
20:30I'm so happy to see some little handmade touches.
20:35I'm scared crapless that we don't have paint on the walls.
20:38We don't have flooring down.
20:39We don't have baseboard.
20:40We don't have casing.
20:41We don't have cabinetry in.
20:41We don't have countertops in.
20:42We don't have the lighting done.
20:44You're not gonna win just by having beautiful artwork if you don't have any flooring down.
20:50Yes, ma'am.
20:51Time management was something that we did talk about in the living room.
20:54So it's kind of like deja vu all over again.
20:57And I'm doing my best so that we can stay on time.
20:59What we're gonna do right now is just get to spring.
21:02You two are way too calm, cool, and collected.
21:05Like, you guys are scaring me.
21:19We're putting wallpaper in each of these panels.
21:22So the edge should be, like, pretty lined up.
21:25Is it a good choice of wallpaper?
21:28I still like the design.
21:29What does that mean?
21:31That means I liked it before and then I still like it.
21:37It's way better than I expected.
21:39I like it.
21:41Woohoo!
21:50Almost there.
21:54Good job.
21:56It is looking sexy as hell.
22:01As heck.
22:04Apparently our faucet is not here yet.
22:08It's supposed to be delivered today.
22:09Okay.
22:10This is the one with the four holes.
22:12So one, two, three, four.
22:13The, like, countertop guys would cut it while they're here.
22:16Or we have that other faucet that we bought that I didn't like the color of.
22:21Is that a four hole also?
22:22No, that's one.
22:23So we either tell them to do four holes and hope that our faucet comes.
22:29Or we have one hole drilled and have a faucet we don't really like.
22:32Yeah.
22:33So what do you want to do?
22:34Gamble?
22:34Not gamble.
22:36I don't like the other one.
22:38Okay.
22:38So then we'll just go with four holes.
22:42If it doesn't come in, we'll plug three.
22:46And put the faucet in the center.
22:48No one knows.
22:49Okay.
22:50Go for the gamble.
23:02Yes!
23:03The county's out here!
23:05We waiting on y'all.
23:10This is such a pretty kitchen.
23:14This is going to be so pretty.
23:17Why buy it when we can build it?
23:18The hood was going to cost, like, $2,000.
23:20So instead, we decided to DIY it.
23:28Can you help me like that?
23:33It's good to be little!
23:37So essentially, it'll be like this.
23:41So we need to get this wrapped up, okay?
23:43Let's go.
23:54We're getting our countertops installed today!
23:56Is there anything back there that's going to be hidden forever?
23:59Check behind the appliance garage.
24:02That'll be sealed off forever.
24:05Forever.
24:06Here we go!
24:08I wonder how heavy that is.
24:10It takes four guys.
24:12That's amazing.
24:14Look at the grease!
24:16Oh, baby!
24:23Across from our new hood wall, we're adding a bar with an arch.
24:27Wow!
24:28That looks so nice!
24:31Ain't nothing to it.
24:32I'm about to start on this wallpaper.
24:41That looks good.
24:43Good job.
24:45Good job.
24:49That's a horrible patch job.
24:51I feel like we're overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that we have to accomplish.
24:55And our faucet, it's not here yet.
24:57But I do think that it looks really good.
25:00I do have something to tell you.
25:03Your faucet did show up.
25:05And it's not the one that was ordered.
25:08It has three holes.
25:13That wasn't the one we ordered.
25:15We've got a few too many holes.
25:20All right, so we'll get on the phone, see if they can overnight one.
25:25It would have to be here by tomorrow morning, because today is the last construction day.
25:32So I don't even know if that's possible, but let's get on the phone and see.
25:45See where that hole is?
25:46Okay, go down.
25:49So today is judging.
25:52Our kitchen is huge, and we also have the mudroom and the pantry and the dining area.
25:57I don't know if we'll be able to finish everything.
26:01Thankfully, the correct faucet showed up, and we installed it just in the nick of time.
26:05All right, let's go, let's go, let's go.
26:09Here we go.
26:09I'm gonna go get the cushions for the banquette.
26:12Okay.
26:12Where we are right now, we've got a lot to still complete.
26:16I keep feeling like Santa Claus bringing in gifts.
26:20There's a lot going on.
26:21It would definitely be nice to have more time.
26:23This is a time crunch.
26:26Dinner time!
26:2830 minutes!
26:29Hey, guys.
26:30What?
26:31I found a bun in the oven.
26:32My mom made it.
26:33You made this?
26:34Yeah.
26:36Oh, my gosh, you guys.
26:3720 more minutes.
26:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:39Little louder for the people in the bed.
26:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:43Check the stand.
26:44I just need a wipe on standby, because I'm about to make a mess.
26:49Make a mess.
26:50All right, you guys, I have to head to the beach.
26:52The judges are gonna love it.
26:54All right, see y'all soon.
26:55I'll meet you out there.
26:56All right, okay.
26:57Facebook's amazing!
26:59Bye, guys!
27:00See you later.
27:04Oh, man!
27:06Okay, eyeball it.
27:09One minute.
27:11Oh, man!
27:16Time's up.
27:18Let's go to the beach.
27:19We'll go get judged.
27:21It's judgment day.
27:24Welcome back.
27:25Let's go.
27:26I can feel the tension in the air all day.
27:29I know.
27:30It's been a long week.
27:32It's kinda quiet.
27:33Congratulations on completing your second battle of the competition.
27:37This week, you guys took on, which many consider the most important space in the house, the kitchen.
27:45Angelina and Steven, you won the living room challenge last week.
27:50How do you feel about your kitchen?
27:52Oh, that one is just...
27:54Yeah.
27:55I love the confidence.
27:57Anna and Josiah, do you guys think you can catch up this week?
28:00We hope so.
28:01Our kitchen is small but mighty.
28:03I like that.
28:04Sydney and Michelle?
28:05We're pretty hopeful.
28:06We know we have a big kitchen and we did a lot with our space.
28:10We're hoping not to be cooked.
28:11Yeah.
28:13Vacationers have a critical eye for the kitchen.
28:15It's the epicenter of a great getaway.
28:17We'll be looking at booking power, functionality, and design.
28:22So let's see who will be taking home $3,000 cash or doubling it and adding it to the grand
28:28prize.
28:29Team Sarah, we'll go with your kitchen first.
28:32Come along.
28:34That kitchen was so much work.
28:37It was a whirlwind of up and down.
28:40Can't wait to see what they say.
28:43Okay, kitchen.
28:44Kitchen.
28:44Kitchen.
28:50Wow.
28:51Stunning.
28:51I really like this.
28:54This countertop and the waterfall edge.
28:57But I just have to touch it, you know?
28:59Yeah.
29:00We did holed and leathered.
29:03I think it's a great choice.
29:04It fits well with their overall aesthetic.
29:07It's fun.
29:08It's exciting.
29:09It's usable.
29:14We also did this custom hood vent.
29:16We actually used to have a small window there.
29:19Oh.
29:19And you stared at the siding of the house beside you.
29:22The next door neighbor.
29:27And then they created this sort of secondary pantry space.
29:30It is a focal moment for sure.
29:32Your eye goes over there.
29:34Well, you get focal moments on both sides, right?
29:36You do too.
29:37Yeah.
29:37You're here.
29:38Wow.
29:39It looks super cool.
29:40And then on the other side, they created this hood vent.
29:43And then to sort of finish it off, they actually had what would have been dead space because of how
29:47the door swings over here.
29:49They created another little desk moment.
29:51Oh, no way.
29:51Yeah.
29:52I would have never even seen this.
29:54I'm not going to lie.
29:55I would have liked to see, I think, a full-on built-in where you can sit down and put
30:01your shoes underneath.
30:04More of like that drop zone with more storage across.
30:07Yeah.
30:07Yeah.
30:08So let's go around and check out the rest of this space.
30:12Dining.
30:14We used this sort of window niche space to create the lived-in banquet.
30:19Yeah.
30:19The view is where it's at.
30:21Like, you are going to spend so much time here.
30:24I do think some see-through drapes might have made it feel more warm and more of a moment.
30:30It feels like it's missing just something.
30:32More finish.
30:33Some finish.
30:33Yeah.
30:33It feels good.
30:35Not quite complete.
30:36Right.
30:37We used to have a window here.
30:38So we took the window out and then created a different focal point here as well.
30:43Only thing you worry about is natural light.
30:46I do think we could have had some recessed lights in here.
30:50Yeah.
30:50That kind of ran throughout the space because it just would have brightened it up a little bit more.
30:55We really tried to focus on this.
30:57Honestly, your eye goes straight to the ocean, and that's so intentional.
31:00I can't stop staring at the ocean.
31:02You get to go back to the beach.
31:04I do.
31:04Can you send Mika over to her house?
31:06I will.
31:06I'm going to enjoy that ocean.
31:07Yes.
31:08You get to go out there.
31:10I feel really confident about our kitchen.
31:12Things function well.
31:13It has a good flow.
31:14I'm really proud.
31:16Come on in.
31:18Kitchen.
31:18OK.
31:19The kitchen.
31:21It did change the layout.
31:23By changing the orientation of the island, you get the ocean view.
31:27I love this.
31:28Yeah.
31:28I really do.
31:29The cabinet choice with the slim shaker, this light wood tone.
31:34This wood tone kind of tied into the flooring.
31:35The amount of people you can sit.
31:38Oh, yeah.
31:38And this ceiling feature.
31:40Yes.
31:41Yeah.
31:41This is amazing.
31:41I think it really made this space feel special.
31:45It's not just like a dining room where you eat.
31:47Exactly.
31:47You can chill here.
31:49Function meets design.
31:50So, if you notice our countertops, the first countertop that Anna fell in love with, she wanted green.
31:56Like, straight up green countertops.
31:59OK.
31:59Which was a strong choice.
32:00It's a choice, yeah.
32:02So, we kind of settled with a little hint of green.
32:05Green veining.
32:06You don't have really control over how big the kitchen is.
32:10Right.
32:11But the island is maybe a little underwhelming for the space, but I think it's what you could fit in
32:18there.
32:18Yeah.
32:18Tell me about this situation.
32:20Yeah.
32:20Why don't you check it out?
32:23I want to touch it.
32:23I like the feature, but I can see how some people might feel claustrophobic cooking.
32:28OK.
32:29When I'm, like, in there, I'm like, oh, the walls are caving in.
32:32Yeah.
32:32You know?
32:33But it did spin a little bit on more elevated appliances.
32:37I was going to say, the appliances.
32:38Mm-hmm.
32:39And then to keep everything clean aesthetically to look at, we do have some appliances, but guess where they're at?
32:45In the appliance garage right behind you.
32:47Hey!
32:48I saw it right when we walked in.
32:50You did?
32:51Yes.
32:51OK, yes.
32:52I like that.
32:52So, you've got all your appliances, and you bring them out.
32:55Wow, that's cool.
32:55Did they customize this themselves?
32:58I think hiding all of the appliances and not using the appliances on the counter, because
33:04we don't have tons of countertop space, but it was super smart.
33:07It's not a huge kitchen.
33:09Right.
33:09Right?
33:09But you still created moments.
33:12Well, I think we're done.
33:13I think you can go back to the beach and send Ty to his house.
33:16All right.
33:16See you guys.
33:17Bye.
33:19All right, guys.
33:20So, first of all, the kitchen has moved.
33:23It used to be here.
33:24Oh, no way.
33:25Really?
33:26Movings down.
33:31And now, we have a mudroom.
33:34Wow.
33:34So, all your Beats toys, all your supplies.
33:39This is smart.
33:39The storage, you hide all the stuff.
33:41That's the biggest thing, right?
33:43It's great.
33:43Being able to have a place where you can hide it all.
33:46Just throw it in there, close the door.
33:47Yeah.
33:47I like this room.
33:48Now, here's where we really step into the kitchen, because now you've got like a little beverage center.
33:54Coffee.
33:55Yeah.
33:56Margaritas.
33:56I almost feel like if you're gonna commit to a separate space, you should just fully enclose it.
34:03And so you can hide the stuff.
34:05Yeah.
34:05I think of my pantry at home.
34:07Yeah.
34:08Don't go in there.
34:08My kids wreck that thing.
34:10Everything's just thrown in there.
34:12Yeah.
34:12And so I love to be able to close it off and hide it.
34:15Okay.
34:16Now, let's get down.
34:17Let's get down.
34:18To the business.
34:18To the delicious part.
34:20Okay.
34:20Which would be the kitchen.
34:22I want you to soak in this view.
34:24This is what it's all about.
34:26I think moving the kitchen over here made a huge impact.
34:30It's so big, the size of this island.
34:32It's made to hang out.
34:34It's made to entertain.
34:35We've got one gigantic slab, no seams on a countertop.
34:39Love that.
34:40I mean, the only thing.
34:41Doesn't have grout yet.
34:42Yeah.
34:43I think if they had time, they would have grouted probably with a gray, I hope.
34:47I hope.
34:47Yeah.
34:47I would love to see a color-matched grout in there.
34:50Right.
34:51Yeah.
34:51I think because you didn't choose to do any uppers or anything up top and how big the kitchen
34:58is, it does feel a little empty.
35:01Yeah.
35:01Okay.
35:01Well, I think we've seen enough.
35:03Yeah.
35:03You can head back down to the beach.
35:05All right.
35:06And we have some deliberating to do.
35:08Yes, we do.
35:13Kitchen.
35:14This is where a lot of the family is going to gather.
35:17And so it has to be functional.
35:19Yes.
35:20And we're looking at which one is going to book the most.
35:23And which one hit the mark on design.
35:26Right.
35:26So let's start with Sarah.
35:27I love the countertops that they chose.
35:30They had by far the best countertops.
35:33Yeah.
35:34The arched kind of inlay with the wallpaper.
35:37That was the only place I saw some color.
35:39The desk area was not utilized to the best of its ability.
35:45They also had a big banquette, which was lovely.
35:48Right.
35:49But it did feel a little bit cramped in there.
35:52I had a little dark.
35:53Yeah.
35:53So Mika's kitchen, to me, felt the most modern.
35:57I love their cabinet choice.
35:58They were thinking not only design, but also functionality.
36:03I love the dining room area with the tray ceiling detail,
36:07the wallpaper on the top.
36:09And then they also had that appliance garage that they custom made.
36:12With that said, the hood vent, unfortunately, made it just,
36:16for me, like, cooking wouldn't be enjoyable.
36:20If you felt cramped in there, could you imagine me in there trying to cook?
36:24That's my point.
36:25Right.
36:25You know?
36:25Next we have...
36:27Ty's.
36:28Okay.
36:28I love how big that kitchen feels because they made the decision to push it back
36:35and not be at the front door, you know?
36:38The island.
36:38Massive.
36:39Then they had the big banquette.
36:41It feels the most open, inviting.
36:44Like, you can have a big family, our family, in that kitchen.
36:47They also created that beverage station, pantry.
36:52And I think that that will add to bookability.
36:54They ran out of time, obviously, because they never even finished grouting that tile.
36:59They didn't even grout.
36:59Oh, yeah.
37:00A lot of their budgets are going to this space, so there's a lot riding on it.
37:04Yes.
37:04Hard decision, but I think we know who's the winner.
37:07Let's go tell them.
37:14The moment of truth.
37:16Oh, boy.
37:17Oh, you guys, this is going to be such a tough one.
37:20It's clear that you dedicated a lot of cash to your kitchens, and we think it truly paid
37:26off.
37:26Team Ty, I loved how large and inviting it felt.
37:32When I walked in, I was like, wait, they moved their kitchen.
37:37I think it was a bold move, and for you guys, it truly paid off.
37:41Yeah, it flowed right to where the eyes should be, which is this beautiful view.
37:47Yeah.
37:48You did create this pantry slash, I think Ty called it.
37:54Like a margarita drink area.
37:56A beverage station.
37:58I think it could be a little bit confusing for some people.
38:01Yeah.
38:02The mudroom, so thoughtful.
38:05I would have loved to see some built-in features for storage for all the stuff you don't want
38:10to see.
38:10The only other downside, I think you guys ran out of time.
38:14You may have forgot to grout the tile, or you were going for that look.
38:18Nope, not enough time.
38:20Yeah.
38:20Okay, team makeup.
38:22Oh, man.
38:23There's not much I didn't like about your guys' kitchen.
38:27I like that.
38:27You guys were the only ones that used a slim shaker and went modern.
38:32The veining on the countertops had green in it.
38:35It tied to the fireplace in your living room, so there was cohesiveness there.
38:39In the dining area, we both noticed some fun things.
38:44You guys did a ceiling treatment that really blew me away.
38:48The copper built down with the inlay, it was super special.
38:53Yeah.
38:53I also loved the appliance garage.
38:57Although with the wear and tear of people on vacation, I feel like it might break.
39:01The cooking area.
39:03Mika did share with us that you spent a ton of time on the built-in hood vents.
39:08It's a custom feature.
39:10So for us to even give negative feedback on that, I feel so bad.
39:15It's tough.
39:15But probably not a fun place to cook.
39:20Team Sarah.
39:21The first thing when I walked into your kitchen, asked Sarah, is I started touching your countertop.
39:28I was like, oh my gosh, these are amazing.
39:31You extended the kitchen and created more storage.
39:35You had the arch with the floating shelves.
39:37You used color on that wallpaper.
39:39The amount of flow you created was game-changing for that space overall.
39:45The one thing I would have loved to see you guys do a little different was right by the front
39:50door, you created a desk.
39:52When I'm on vacation, girl, I'm not trying to work.
39:55So I'm like, I would have loved to see like a built-in mudroom.
39:59And then your art displayed not in a corner because it's so beautiful, but like out for everyone to see
40:06it because you worked hard on that.
40:08Yes, I did.
40:10This was a really tight race.
40:12You guys all delivered beautiful spaces.
40:15But there can only be one winner.
40:18I hate that.
40:19I know.
40:20Can we split it?
40:23And the winner of the kitchen battle is...
40:27Do we know when it's over?
40:29Oh my gosh.
40:31Sydney and Michelle!
40:36You guys get it!
40:38You guys get it!
40:39We won! We won! We won! We won!
40:41It was your idea to move it on down.
40:43It became more a part of the living room, dining room, and it gave us the space for those two
40:48other rooms.
40:49Feels really good.
40:50I do feel like the kitchen is one of the main spaces of a house.
40:53So to have Wynn, one of the big ones, I feel like I'm very proud of us for that.
40:57And I hope that we can keep it going!
41:01You guys were able to move the kitchen down and create two additional spaces, a mudroom, a pantry, and still
41:09have the kitchen feel that big.
41:12You won, for sure.
41:14Now you have an important decision to make.
41:17Are you walking away with the $3,000?
41:20Or do you want to double down and add it to the grand prize pot?
41:27I think that I'm... I don't want to doubt their talent.
41:31I don't know. I just, it's ours.
41:32What's your decision?
41:34We feel confident with what we've done, that it's to the best of our abilities.
41:39But we also feel as though these guys have a lot of talent also, so I think we'll take the
41:43cash.
41:44Yeah.
41:44We're gonna get that money.
41:46I mean, I cannot fault your decision.
41:49Your team's gonna walk away with $3,000.
41:52Go get that money, Tiffany!
41:55Come on!
41:55Come on!
41:56Come on!
41:57You ran.
41:57You ran.
41:58The total prize is gonna remain at $50,000.
42:02So your kitchens are done, but the battle rages on.
42:06Next, you tackle the main suite.
42:09Let's do it!
42:10Woo-hoo!
42:10Feels good to win!
42:12Yeah!
42:14Good luck, and we will see you in a week.
42:18This room is the ultimate main suite.
42:22I think what you're doing is fantastic, but I also really want to see you in the winner's circle.
42:28This does not sound cheap.
42:30This is too long.
42:31Being not a California king, this is a team.
42:34Wanna just take a minute?
42:35Yeah, can I have a minute?
42:37You doing that, I'm doing this.
42:41Oh, oh, oh, we need it.
42:45We gotta get the medic.
42:47Round three.
42:47Round three.
42:48Oh, wow.
42:49Wow.
42:50I will say that I'm really glad there's nothing blocking this view.
42:55Oh!
42:55Oh!
42:57This is different.
42:59And the winner of this week's battle...
