00:00We are standing at Zojila tunnel which is going to see the final breakthrough today.
00:04This tragic project will witness connectivity of Ladakh with the rest of the country throughout
00:11the year.
00:12Ladakh remained disconnected during winter months as the temperature dropped as low as
00:18minus 30 degrees on the Zojila pass.
00:20At an elevation of over 11,500 feet, this pass used to be closed during winters.
00:27But now, once we see this tunnel readying, it will ensure seamless and safer movement
00:34of traffic on this tragic highway.
00:40Not only this, but it will also provide seamless access to defensive forces.
00:47Ladakh shares borders with both Pakistan as well as China.
00:52In 2020, Ladakh witnessed clashes in Galwan Valley with Chinese troops.
00:58But now, since then, there has been massive infrastructure development including this tunnel.
01:05The tunnel is going to be the longest in the world with single tube bi-directional tunnel
01:12spanning over 14 kilometers.
01:14The work on this tunnel was started in 2020 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra
01:20Modi.
01:20Today, Union Minister for Highways and Roads Nitin Gadkari is going to witness this ceremony
01:29where blasts will be carried out as a ceremonial practice on connecting both tubes on Eastern and
01:38and the Western Front.
01:40We stand in the Ladakh portion and the engineers working on the Eastern portal that lies in Kashmir
01:50province will see each other underneath these gigantic mountains in the Himalayan region.
