00:12We found Michael, we're gonna drive south till it's warm
00:18Sirens, hey tornado sirens. It's good to be back
00:32There's Reid, the Dominator coming up himself. Get ready Will, get ready Will. He's up, he's up. The structure on
00:41this is absolutely absurd. Oh my god. Shoot it, just hang up god damn woman.
00:56Turn it out. Look at the feet.
01:01You got a bad thing about this. I just hear the house out.
01:05Oh my god.
01:30I might have two storms there, so we'll head down to our net.
01:47My name's Reid Timmer and I'm an extreme meteorologist and storm chaser.
01:52We have got a sharp dry line here moving out of the Texas Panhandle into western Oklahoma, western Kansas and
01:58that's initiating storms right now.
02:02Oklahoma is right in the heart of Tornado Alley in the southern plains, right in our own backyard.
02:07So we knew that this was going to be a big day for the Team Dominator science mission.
02:15The Dalmahawk FPV drone, ready to go.
02:18It's the Dalmahawk.
02:19Sensors packaged.
02:21Will Clay, our extreme engineer, had just made our mothership drone that can get close to the tornado and drop
02:27parachute probes into it.
02:29It gives us the chance to access all the data inside of a tornado in three dimensions.
02:34We're ready to go.
02:35It's going to be a big one.
02:38And the ultimate goal of our science mission is to get a real-time tornado intensity estimate and then we
02:43can warn people on the path of those storms in real time.
02:47Awesome. Incredible rotation. I'm able to put a rotation on this thing.
02:51The forecast models are definitely showing northwest Oklahoma as the prime zone for tornadoes.
02:57So we blasted off to the east.
02:59You definitely want to get there as quickly as possible.
03:03Let's get it.
03:04I knew this was going to be an impressive setup for tornadoes.
03:07All the ingredients were coming together in northwest Oklahoma.
03:10So we figured every storm chaser would target that area as well.
03:18Oh . Look at that.
03:22I am just so ready, man.
03:26My name is Connor McCrory and I'm a storm chaser.
03:29In the middle of May, anytime you have an ice storm system coming through, it's almost guaranteed that you're going
03:33to have some pretty serious tornado potential.
03:36It's pretty evident that western Oklahoma is going to be the main place to be.
03:40I think out in Oklahoma is never fun. You deal with a poor road network and lots of trees and
03:48mountains that can make it difficult to see the tornadoes.
03:51This is a real deal, middle of May, monster tornado type day.
03:58Look at those daytime highs soaring well into the 60s and 70s and that will allow for it to be
04:03very warm and unstable air mass.
04:05Perfect for severe storms to develop.
04:07Where we have the greatest threat to see strong tornadoes so EF2 are stronger is going to be for Kansas
04:12and Oklahoma.
04:18We found Michael.
04:1912 years ago tomorrow.
04:21I know.
04:2212 years ago tomorrow.
04:23That's when we drove into that tornado over there.
04:26Mike, he's my number one chase partner, has been for a long time.
04:32Connor and I have been chasing together off and on for 14 years now.
04:36He's one of my best friends.
04:38There's no one on earth I trust to get me safely within 10 feet of a tornado than Connor.
04:44Well, what are we going to do?
04:45We're going to drive south until it's warm?
04:47I have a surprise guest that's going to be coming along for the chase with us.
04:52He brought his mom.
04:54Hi.
04:55They are definitely surprised to see that my mom is chasing.
04:58She's never come chasing with me before.
04:59I don't think at this point my mom has any idea what she's in for.
05:03Give my mom a beer.
05:04I'm still drinking my coffee, huh?
05:07That was the fastest way to get there.
05:08Let's up!
05:11So are we in a hurry to blast northwest then?
05:14I don't know.
05:16Connor, you're supposed to be the number one storm chaser on the planet.
05:19Your Twitter bio says so.
05:21If we want to go for that storm, we just go west.
05:23Yeah.
05:25Connor's very good at navigating, so he tells me where to go and I point the truck that direction and
05:30push the gas.
05:31Mom, are you excited to see a big fat tornado today?
05:35Sag it!
05:36Hell yeah.
05:37Could be a top tier tornado.
05:40I feel pretty good about it.
05:42This is awesome.
05:46Let's just stay right in between everything.
05:49That's exactly right.
05:51Let the storms make the decision for us.
05:55Sirens.
05:56Hey, tornado sirens.
05:57Oh, sick.
06:00Whoa!
06:01See that lightning bolt?
06:03We're in perfect position for this thing.
06:05Yeah, man.
06:05We might be.
06:06Whoa!
06:08Woo!
06:08Ah!
06:11Oh, my God.
06:12That is insane.
06:13Oh, my God.
06:15Oh, that is sickening.
06:18Hell yeah.
06:19Are we the best or what?
06:21You're pretty good at this, buddy.
06:22Whoa!
06:23Did you see that?
06:24Yeah.
06:24Yeah.
06:25Right now, I'm just trying to keep it between the mustard and the mayonnaise.
06:27Yeah, sir.
06:27Just focus on that.
06:38Oh, that was big.
06:41That was big.
06:43That was big.
06:45Ow!
06:46Yeah.
06:47Jesus!
06:47I'm Jordan Hall.
06:49I'm unique as a chaser because I'd consider myself a hybrid.
06:53I had a lot of OG mentors, like the old guys.
06:56Reed Timmer, Dan Fitz, a lot of the older generation.
06:59And going forward now, we have all the live streamers.
07:02And I'm kind of right in the middle.
07:03I find myself mid-20s, been chasing for 10 years.
07:08Is there a way to turn your wipers off or is it still raining?
07:11My name is Sierra Lindsey, and I'm a storm chaser.
07:14I am with my boyfriend, Jordan.
07:16He's also my chase partner for the last few years.
07:20That was a bumper.
07:22That was big.
07:23So most of the chase community is men, but I never felt like I was out of place as a
07:28female chaser.
07:29Oh, boy.
07:30What?
07:31They're getting huge.
07:32Oh, yeah.
07:33Correct your window soon.
07:34I'm working towards my meteorology degree.
07:36I'm really trying to use that to sharpen my forecasting skills.
07:40Sure.
07:41Let's go east.
07:42Yeah, he's...
07:47Yeah, so this room, you can take it all the way east to here.
07:51Having a chase partner, especially Sierra with me, it really helps take some of the job off of my hands.
07:57And she can help me look at radar, possibly even help me with cameras.
08:00At the end of the day, we can conquer a lot more together than just being solo.
08:05I'm in a perfect spot, but I'm just getting obliterated with hail right here.
08:09My mission today is to get as close as possible to a tornado because it can really help with the
08:13safety aspect when people know what's actually going to be coming later in the day.
08:17If this tornado goes from the fields to a town, we have a very serious situation on our hands where
08:23we're going to be doing search and rescue.
08:27Oh, we're going to be out of this hail at some point here.
08:30The models have rogue supercells across western Oklahoma, but it keeps giving them and then taking them away.
08:36The question is, which setup do I think is going to produce?
08:41When do you want to move?
08:42We don't need to move.
08:43No, I don't. I don't. I will...
08:46When I move, I'll make that... I'll just make the decision when I'm ready, when I feel ready to move.
08:50It definitely does get tense in the moment.
08:53Sometimes the tensions get high. You're trying to make smart decisions in a fast moment.
08:57Just let me work my magic right here. Just let me dance.
09:02If I need a road, I'll ask you though.
09:04When chasing storms, it's like cat and mouse game.
09:07You know, you're hunting. You're looking for it. You're the cat. You're on the prowl.
09:11There it is, tornado!
09:13Oh my god.
09:17It's coming down. Look at that.
09:20Did I say fucking foolish cat?
09:25Look at them. Look at them. Look at that.
09:28The structure on this is absolutely absurd. Classic Superzones.
09:34I got eyes where I need them. We're going to play.
09:47Here it comes. Funnel halfway down. Here it is.
09:51Oh my goodness.
09:53Coming right at us. Here it comes.
09:58You're in a perfect spot. It's coming right to us.
10:02It's on the ground. It's throwing debris.
10:04Oh my god. It's hitting stuff.
10:07Yep. It's throwing trees.
10:09When it gets through those trees, we can get ready to rock.
10:13We'll move when I'm ready.
10:16I'm basically playing chicken.
10:18And it's very important to know when to leave.
10:21Sierra and I are staring it down.
10:23And it's coming directly at us. And it's getting closer and closer.
10:26This is perfect, Sierra. Oh my god.
10:28We are in such a good spot. We're good.
10:31Pass those trees.
10:33I want it to come to me. I'm a little greedy today.
10:36Let's back it up.
10:37Yep, I'm good.
10:38It's pretty close.
10:39We should have it.
10:41I'm going to hop in.
10:42And I finally pull the trigger.
10:44We've got to get out of the way. This thing's coming right at us.
10:46It's crossing. It's crossing the road.
10:51Oh, okay. I need people to get out of my way more than anything.
10:59Look at this thing. Look at that.
11:02Oh yeah, look at that dirt. Oh!
11:05It's right there. Shoot it. Shoot it.
11:10It's going to get big, guys. That thing is violent.
11:13Here's pumping. Here's pumping?
11:15It's going to expand a bit, so I'm not going to...
11:17We don't have to be crazy with it right now, but we can get closer.
11:22Oh, look at that dirt.
11:23Wow!
11:28There it is.
11:28Oh yeah!
11:29Get on the next one.
11:31Consider the it scratched.
11:33Mom!
11:35Mom, what do you think?
11:36Do we like this storm?
11:38Here it comes.
11:39Oh my gosh.
11:43Oh, that thing is beautiful.
11:47Sick vortices. Sick vortices. Fully condensed.
11:49Almost.
11:51Oh, it is.
11:51Yeah, there it is.
11:52Here we go.
11:53Here we go.
11:55We got it.
11:56Yeah, we got it, tomato.
11:58Yes!
11:59Oh my gosh.
12:03Closer.
12:04Closer.
12:05Okay, you talked me into it.
12:06Just right here.
12:07Just right here.
12:08This is going to be too close, probably.
12:11There's reading.
12:12Really?
12:13Yep, Dominator coming up from the south.
12:15Is that the top?
12:16Yep.
12:17Yeah.
12:18It's on the ground right east.
12:19Look at that!
12:20Look at that.
12:20On your side, here.
12:32Go back!
12:33You have to go back and then go north for a while.
12:35Can you go?
12:35Go!
12:37This road doesn't go for a while, doesn't it?
12:39No, it stops right there.
12:41Through down that road, can I go back and go north?
12:43Sometimes the roads don't cooperate.
12:45Sometimes there can be a dead end right when you're about to intercept a tornado.
12:49We're just going to need the east option, aren't we?
12:51Yeah, and it's right there.
12:52That's the east option.
12:56We got behind the tornado a little bit from that dead end and had to catch back up.
13:02Yeah, this thing's going absurd.
13:04Getting all the way in our net.
13:07Gotta hurry!
13:09We got a convergence!
13:10We saw other storm chasing vehicles out there as well.
13:13Everybody's trying to get as close as they can or be the closest one to the tornado.
13:18Closer!
13:19Closer!
13:20Oh, wow.
13:22It's strong.
13:23It's very strong.
13:23Very strong.
13:24Dude, it's shredding.
13:32Oh, you see that?
13:34Yeah.
13:34Yeah.
13:35It's hit no bomb.
13:36Look at that!
13:38Oh my...
13:38That's a weed bomb!
13:44It's hit no weed bomb!
13:45Look at that!
13:46You smell it?
13:47Yeah.
13:48Yeah.
13:48This is going to be too close to it.
13:50Oh no.
13:50Yeah, that's...
13:51Oh!
13:57When the tornado crosses the road right in front of us, it hits a shed or an outhouse and
14:01it's a sinking feeling.
14:06Alright.
14:07Alright.
14:08You smell it?
14:09Yeah.
14:09You smell the weed?
14:11It's strong.
14:12Debris.
14:13Insane.
14:15Wow, man.
14:19That is a move.
14:23This tornado just drilled right through a weed farm.
14:30Insane.
14:31I hope this weed farmer has his crop insured because this tornado does some damage to it.
14:36Dodgeable.
14:48Oh my god.
14:50Oh my god.
14:54Holy .
14:55Look at that!
14:57Alright.
14:59Gotta go!
15:00Get in the car!
15:01Go!
15:02Last!
15:07Oh!
15:08Hang out the window!
15:09Hang out the goddamn window!
15:10Hang out the goddamn window!
15:11Hang out over the roof!
15:13Hang out over the roof!
15:14Get out!
15:19Get back!
15:27The fuck do you want me to do?
15:28Yeah, it's right there!
15:30Okay.
15:33I'm just trying to get past chasers here.
15:37Hold on, Sierra.
15:39Just hold on!
15:40Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
15:43Oh, my God.
15:44Oh, my God.
15:46We are so close.
15:48Oh, my God.
15:51That's a strong tornado.
15:54Get out of these trees.
15:56That's violent.
15:57Shoot it.
15:58Just hang out the goddamn window.
16:00When we get in extreme situations, it's tricky because you're thinking,
16:04I got to protect my significant other.
16:06I don't want to put them in danger.
16:07But obviously what we're doing is very dangerous.
16:09But we've had these conversations,
16:11and I think we have a very good trust built together.
16:16Holy .
16:19Oh, my God, Jordan.
16:26Look at that thing.
16:28Oh, my God.
16:37It's still on the ground.
16:39I'm done.
16:39You're good.
16:40Keep shooting.
16:43I'm going to cut north.
16:46Still on the ground.
16:50Are you good?
16:52Jesus.
16:53I just gained the breeze.
16:53You're good.
16:54It's just the breeze.
16:55No, it's so weak.
16:57Are you doing the Heimlich maneuver or are you good?
16:59Okay.
17:00It definitely does get tense in the moment.
17:03So, you know, under those high-stress situations, it's pretty easy for tempers to get fired up when we're trying
17:09to get good video.
17:11Oh, my goodness.
17:13Oh, my God.
17:14Look at it, Sierra.
17:15Oh, my God.
17:17Hold on tight.
17:20Hold on tight, Sierra.
17:21I am.
17:23I am.
17:23I am.
17:23I am.
17:25I need this guy to go.
17:29Oh, that's so sick.
17:35I am.
17:36We are backroading it to the east to get away from the crowds and it's wild.
17:41There are 10 plus storm chaser groups.
17:45That's why I personally prefer to be on the back roads is so we have to deal with a lot
17:49less.
17:51Go or don't.
17:52Get out of the middle of the road.
17:53Jesus.
18:01Hold on.
18:02Hold on.
18:02Hold on.
18:06Let's get close again.
18:07Yep.
18:14Close enough for you, buddy?
18:16That'll work.
18:19Violent tornado.
18:20Violent tornado.
18:21Violent tornado.
18:26Wow, man.
18:31This is the beginning of a very long day here, people.
18:34Yeah.
18:43Hail coming in from the left.
18:45Oh, huge hail.
18:46Oh, my God.
18:48Giant hail.
18:49Whoa.
18:51That was good.
18:51That's hail, mom.
18:52Can you put your hair gates in?
18:53Window up.
18:56She doesn't realize that softball sized hail stones coming and hitting you on the leg. I mean, that'll, that'll do
19:02some damage.
19:06Oh, my God.
19:15Oh, it's turning into a rope.
19:17Three.
19:19It's bumping out.
19:23I think it's mostly done.
19:27Holy .
19:28That thing was violent.
19:29That was like, yeah, four.
19:30Or higher.
19:32Dude.
19:33That was so sick.
19:35Dude.
19:35That's gotta be a new favorite, right?
19:37Oh, my God.
19:38Dude.
19:39Wow.
19:40Yeah, dude.
19:43Woo.
19:44That's what you're talking about.
19:46That's how you storm chase right there.
19:49Woo.
19:49That is how you storm chase right there.
19:51Yeah.
19:52There are no words to properly explain the feeling of being 15 feet from a strong tornado.
19:59And once you have that, you chase to experience that over and over again.
20:04All right, let's do it again.
20:06After the tornado dissipates, we have a really good opportunity to reposition.
20:12The storm has everything that we think it might need to keep going and being just a tornado machine for
20:18hours.
20:19We gotta pull off right here.
20:22I'm getting off.
20:33I'm getting on.
20:33Look at that.
20:34Ha ha ha.
20:35It's close.
20:36It's coming down!
20:38Oh, God.
20:40Oh yeah, they're big NO guys!
20:42He teams!
20:43Get in the car!
20:44Come on!
20:45Get in the car!
20:46Oh, we can't move on 11.
20:48It's happening.
20:49New one.
20:49Look at the new one.
20:50The new one's coming down.
20:59Can you see anything back there?
21:02There's the base.
21:03Yeah, I can see the base.
21:04A new tornado is trying to form right over the town of Arnett.
21:08It was a type of day where there was one supercell that initiated.
21:13And a lot of times those storms will become cyclic,
21:16where they'll produce one tornado after another.
21:18And that's exactly what happened in northwest Oklahoma.
21:21Go get me, get me, get me, get me.
21:25We're going to have some deployment opportunities on this, that's for sure.
21:29We finally had our science mission ready to go.
21:32Okay, get ready.
21:33Get ready to launch.
21:35So we blasted off to the east.
21:37I wasn't missing this intercept for anything.
21:43Here we go, guys.
21:46I think it's down here.
21:47I'm thinking that the storm will be up here by this intersection on the road right here.
21:53I'm Tanner Charles.
21:54I'm a professional storm chaser.
21:56As we're heading down, I'm seeing the tornado warning going off.
21:59And so I'm heading straight to there because I know this is going to be where the next big tornado
22:03happens.
22:04We're trying to get there as fast as possible.
22:07I have my good friend Jeremy, who's the driver for the first half of the season for me.
22:11And then also my friend Ty Rogers, who's a professional FPV drone pilot.
22:16Ty?
22:16Woo!
22:18And so our goal was to drone a tornado.
22:21We've put a lot of hours into building the right drone.
22:25I would say technology is, like, the biggest factor.
22:28We want to see a drone dive bomb down the funnel, like, wrap around it.
22:34You don't know what kind of footage could do to help you understand very violent tornadoes.
22:40Need the drone set up.
22:42Let's go, baby.
22:43I've never really droned a tornado before.
22:45You know, neither has Ty.
22:46He is pumped.
22:47He is so ready.
22:50Here we go, guys.
22:51And so we were just coming on the road so we could blast west and just get there.
22:59Probability of two or more tornadoes, 70%.
23:02Probability of one or more strong tornadoes, 60%.
23:06I like those numbers.
23:09My name is Sarah Kasabian, and I'm a storm chaser.
23:12I grew up in Oklahoma, born and raised, and whenever I'm chasing in Oklahoma, I'm very comfortable
23:19in that space because I grew up with the kind of storms that we should be seeing today.
23:24I know the state like the back of my hand, so it takes out some of the uncertainty, which
23:31is an advantage.
23:33This road goes southwest soon.
23:35We'll stay here until we get to here.
23:38We need to get your mid-drops out there.
23:40Sweet.
23:41We need to get right up under it.
23:43My chase partner is Brandon Jarvis.
23:45Jarvis is great because he understands the dynamic that we have.
23:49This is my truck that we're in.
23:51This is my show.
23:53But he's my partner.
23:55How should we look at it?
23:57About 15 miles from our head.
24:04Hello.
24:06So today, we're chasing with Brett.
24:08We're right behind him.
24:10Brett is absolutely a mentor.
24:13I'm not a meteorologist.
24:15I've never studied meteorology.
24:16So having Brett, who is a meteorologist, is extremely important.
24:22Sarah is a very exuberant individual.
24:26If she has her mind set to being in a location or a place, she's going to get there.
24:32What's that self-option you said we were taking?
24:3560 degrees.
24:37Cool.
24:38My goal today is to get as close to a ripper as I possibly can, to get closer than anyone
24:46else, to get better footage than anyone else.
24:48I don't want to be the best woman storm chaser.
24:51I want to be the best storm chaser.
24:54Tornado warning, Arnett.
24:57Let's go.
24:58We're tornado-warned, people.
24:59Rock and roll.
25:01Get ready to feel the chaos.
25:03We're flying west, we get a tornado warning, and at that point, we've got to go.
25:09Go, go, go.
25:19This thing's going to be nuts.
25:27They're probably going to switch off.
25:29So, my primary chase partner that's in my car is Heath Lawler.
25:34He's usually driving, but today, I decided that I wanted to get back behind the wheel
25:41just because I wanted that control.
25:44Do you think we should, too, or are you going to keep up?
25:47Oh, I can keep up.
25:48Okay.
25:55I have not yet let Jarvis drive us anywhere near a storm.
26:00I want to have the final say in exactly where we're positioned.
26:05And so, I was experimenting with the idea of letting Jarvis drive.
26:11Then I get nervous because today, I really need this tornado.
26:15Just, like, the water, like, right here.
26:18I'm going to do it again.
26:25Go, go, go, go.
26:26Get the truck, get the truck.
26:28Everything's too hot.
26:32These guys have got to go.
26:34So, we're close to the town of Arnett.
26:37Everybody got here.
26:39Yeah, no kidding.
26:41Come on, guys.
26:41Let's go.
26:44There's a city worth of car.
26:45Straight ahead?
26:46Yeah.
26:47Watch this.
26:48We hit a dirt road.
26:50We're flying west.
26:51Yeah, good bird.
26:53It should be up here.
26:55Can't see it, but...
26:56Watch for it.
26:57And if you see it, the first thing I need to do is stick that camera out that window.
27:04Oh, my God, go!
27:13Here we go.
27:14Here it comes.
27:16Here comes the tornado.
27:19So, now we have the beginning of a ripper.
27:22We're in perfect position.
27:24So, we pull off on the side of the road so that we can sit there and watch the storm
27:29as it develops.
27:36Oh, wow!
27:38Yeah!
27:38That's pretty cool.
27:40That's pretty cool.
27:42Bro, it's coming.
27:44Go across the road right up there.
27:45Yep, I'm on the interstate.
27:46You gotta go!
27:47See ya!
27:48See ya!
27:59I can't get any closer.
28:03If the storm of the tornado turns to the right, then it's moving directly at me.
28:10He needs to go.
28:15You're gonna miss it crossing the road.
28:17I think it'll be crossing the road by the time we've cleared the streets.
28:20Today is just too big of a day.
28:23I take matters into my own hands.
28:26I'm not gonna miss a tornado because breath's buffering.
28:30Go!
28:32This is so...
28:38She just jumped in front of me.
28:40Dude!
28:41She flies around me because she wants to get as close as she can.
28:44And right behind us, we see all the storm chasers coming with us toward this tornado.
29:00We're about to get a good view of it right over there.
29:05Wow!
29:06Wow, dude!
29:11You see that?
29:13That one counts as your first!
29:16Incredible.
29:18Nice tornado on the ground right in front of us.
29:21Yeah, look at that.
29:23That's the first tornado time.
29:26Wow!
29:29I think it's violent.
29:35Look at this structure.
29:38All the way down, man.
29:39All the way down.
29:41Woo-hoo-hoo!
29:43Like, want me to get closer to it?
29:44You can definitely drone that.
29:45So we're seeing the storm for the first time.
29:47It's gorgeous.
29:49And the whole storm starts opening up to us as we're racing towards it.
29:53That's what we're looking for!
29:56Wow!
29:57As we get closer to it, I'm realizing that the tornado is on a direct collision course with
30:04the town of Arnett.
30:06It has about, like, 500 people, but it doesn't matter how small the town is.
30:11They're still in danger.
30:12And so the fear is that this tornado is going to go right through town.
30:20Turn around.
30:20Turn around.
30:20Turn around.
30:21Go, go, go.
30:24All right, get ready for the drone.
30:25Yep, get ready for the drone.
30:27Prep the drone.
30:29Oh!
30:32Ty is trying to figure out if he can fly his drone.
30:34And a ball of ice the size of a baseball comes down from the sky.
30:39Lord, protect the vehicle.
30:40Oh, my God.
30:42And I'm just like, oh, man, this is our only drone.
30:45If this thing gets hit by hail, we're done.
30:48Whoa, shoot!
30:49Yeah, just keep it off.
30:50Keep it off.
30:51Yeah, right up here.
30:52You're going to take a right.
30:52Okay.
30:55In the moment, I just said, no, like, we're not going to risk it.
30:59You know, the footage we could have gotten would have been really amazing and epic, you
31:04know, to not be able to fly it when there's a trail on the ground is kind of tough.
31:08Sometimes you don't get the things that you're going after, and that's okay.
31:23Right there!
31:25Right there!
31:26We need an exception soon!
31:28Okay, you gotta keep going.
31:33All right, we're going in for it.
31:38One mile to the road here.
31:48And right now, we're just trying to get close enough to the tornado to deploy the FPV drone
31:52so we can send some sensors into it.
31:54It's going to be a little bumpy boat.
31:55Don't buckle up.
31:58We'll have to go east and then north again because the bees are all shot here.
32:02Okay.
32:08I'm doing it visually because the nav doesn't come up.
32:11We've got about a mile and a half.
32:13Okay.
32:15Great navigation so far.
32:25Smell that?
32:27That's the tornado smell.
32:28It looks awesome out the front right now.
32:30We need to be stopped to launch the drone.
32:33What is that?
32:33How's it going, Will?
32:34It won't let me arm it while we're moving.
32:36Okay, it's going crazy on the left side of the road.
32:39That's a difficult thing for Team Dominator to pull off.
32:42We're in constant motion, constantly maneuvering.
32:45If we can spare it, 20 seconds.
32:48We can up here.
32:49I can get it out there.
32:50We definitely can.
32:50It's a perfect tornado.
32:54Let's do it.
32:58Here it comes.
33:01All right, we're going in for it.
33:04Okay, cool.
33:05It's ready, ready.
33:07Okay, it's going crazy on the left side of the road.
33:18We're out of circulation.
33:20Look at the motion.
33:22I hope our net's not going to move up here.
33:43It's going to blow our net off of them.
33:48Look at it eat.
33:54Whoa.
33:56Whoa, whoa.
33:59Oh, look at it rip off that tree.
34:13So there's kind of this lingering hopelessness that you feel for the folks that are in the
34:19path of this storm.
34:23We gotta go.
34:25It's going into town.
34:27Yep.
34:28Holy crap.
34:29This is Dodge City looking.
34:30Yes, sir.
34:31Holy .
34:36People may be about to get hit if it continues on its trajectory.
34:42What I tell y'all.
34:43Oh my God.
34:45Hurry.
34:45Let's go.
34:46Let's go.
34:46Let's go.
34:48Move, girl.
34:50Here.
34:50Whoa.
34:52Oh my God.
34:57We got a bad feeling about this.
35:02I got debris coming in the window here.
35:07Oh, it's hitting stuff.
35:08Oh, that tree just got it.
35:09Just hit the house out.
35:12Oh, Jesus.
35:15It's going into town.
35:17All right, bro.
35:17We gotta turn around.
35:18Yep.
35:18So that's a huge danger.
35:20So that's a huge danger.
35:21It turns from, this is the most awesome thing I've ever seen, to, oh my goodness, I hope
35:26somebody's not hurt.
35:32Oh my God.
35:33Oh my God.
35:49How's it looking?
35:51We're going to be really close to Arnett.
35:53You're suddenly very concerned for the people in Arnett with this supercell barreling toward
35:57the town.
35:58And you know that lives are in danger.
36:01Get ready, y'all.
36:02Get ready, Will.
36:03Get ready, Will.
36:04Ready.
36:05Let's get it.
36:05Okay.
36:06All right.
36:07Face load activated.
36:23There's such a small window to launch the drone.
36:26I obviously want to launch immediately.
36:28I don't have a lot of patience.
36:30A lot of times it'll dissipate before you get to it.
36:33Yeah.
36:35He's up.
36:36Can you switch over?
36:37Switch over.
36:38He's up.
36:39He's up.
36:40He's up.
36:40I'm going to drive.
36:44He's out of a will.
36:51Are you on a will?
36:52I'm on.
36:52I got it on.
36:53How amazing is him?
36:55I'm coming out.
36:56I'm freaking screaming toward it right now.
37:13Just let me know if I need to go faster or slower.
37:16Here.
37:16Go a little slower.
37:17Right.
37:17A little slower.
37:19All right.
37:20No.
37:21No.
37:21It's disarmed.
37:23It's disarmed.
37:26Back up.
37:26I'm back up.
37:27You're good.
37:27You're good.
37:28Once we start moving, it has a hard time
37:31keeping connection with the drone.
37:34And so I did have to put the pedal to the metal there
37:36for a little bit.
37:49Oh!
37:50Yeah, we're right towards our net.
38:03It's roping out!
38:06All right.
38:06I'm going to go.
38:07It's gone!
38:12All right.
38:13I don't see anything anymore.
38:25All right.
38:26I think we're occluding right here.
38:27See this?
38:28Yep.
38:28It is occluding.
38:30That occlusion is usually at the end of a tornado life cycle.
38:35So the funnel starts to thin up.
38:38The town did not get leveled.
38:40No one was hurt, thankfully, there.
38:43And we're breathing a sigh of relief because this was so close to being a disaster.
38:49That couldn't have gone any better.
38:52Perfect road.
38:53Perfect crossing.
38:56That's what I'm talking about!
38:58Hell yeah!
38:59Yeah!
38:59Let's go!
39:01Woo!
39:02Woo!
39:04Dang.
39:05I see.
39:06Dang.
39:08This is it.
39:09This is the moment that makes it all worth it.
39:11There really is no experience like it.
39:14There's this tornado.
39:15It's not hitting any structures.
39:17It's not injuring people or hitting homes.
39:21It's a storm chaser's dream.
39:23Great job, Jordan.
39:26Good job.
39:27Good at the end.
39:31Crazy, dude.
39:33That town is so lucky, bro.
39:35Well, we didn't get the drone, the tornado, but...
39:39Like, for real, that town is so lucky.
39:42Today was fun.
39:43Today was super fun.
39:48I've got, like, shards of corn and stuff down my pants.
39:52You okay here, bud?
39:53It tickles a little bit.
39:56Will deployed the FBB drone, and it was launching straight at the tornado, so the boy riding rope out.
40:01The drone was racing to it at peak intensity, but we never could quite get into the core flow of
40:07that tornado,
40:08because it dissipated just as it was coming into town.
40:11That means that the mission has failed if the drone cannot quite reach the tornado.
40:15But any science mission is not always defined by failure.
40:29It's time for a mating break.
40:38I'm gonna need to see your storm chasing licenses.
40:50You talk about how many people storm chase now, and cars have been past us for, like, the past 10
40:55minutes, just to give you an idea of how many people are out here chasing today.
41:02This was a powerful tornado.
41:04This was a powerful tornado.
41:28This was a powerful tornado.
41:28This is a mentality that I came a little bit north, and was not someone from me and there.
41:29This was the wind, and I hope that now is charging stations toall speaking today.
41:30This is moving off along with a polyps caused by the urban
