00:00:00that emotional victory on the podium last year looked like he was going to be on the podium again
00:00:05and not getting on with the brakes has been the story of his weekend and this time
00:00:10it costs him on the restart race controllers now said they're going to stay on track they're not
00:00:15going through the pit lane this time around you've got to get that right otherwise that's a penalty
00:00:19as well and he's provided us with monaco magic and monaco misery pretty much nothing in between
00:00:30body language tells you which way this one's gone what a what a horrible weekend for charles
00:00:36frustration throughout he's been really quick that's the thing he's been super quick
00:00:42and the emotion spilling out he knows that camera's there as well he goes back to his
00:00:46race engineer brian bosley for the immediate debrief wasn't just him on that restart struggling
00:00:52antonelli was it was obvious that he did not have the confidence and he's got to do it again
00:00:59got an update from race control george russell has been noted for failing to serve the time
00:01:04penalty correctly and that could be an extra penalty for the driver second in the points
00:01:09he's seen that as a 10 second penalty in the past so yeah top top wolf did not want that
00:01:16aired over
00:01:17the radio but that's better news for hajar now because the two behind him have to serve penalties
00:01:22we know how difficult it is to overtake and i think red bull have absolutely nailed this by just keeping
00:01:27him out there taking track position and he's in now a third position still not quite sure what
00:01:33happened to oscar piastri earlier on that he wasn't vying with hajar or ahead of hajar at the stops but
00:01:39then he had his own penalty to serve which he did uh limblad hasn't swapped hasn't changed tires
00:01:45no so he is still due a pit stop yeah you have to so there's no mandatory stops in formula
00:01:52one but
00:01:52you've got to use two compounds in a dry race that's the rule different in other categories but there's
00:01:57no mandatory stop so if we gotta if we gotta say if we got a red flag he'd be able
00:02:02to oh my word we have
00:02:03oh my word that's bizarre we've got a red flag and arvid limblad gets exactly what he was looking for
00:02:12so he can now as per the rule book change his tire set and he will be on for an
00:02:16eighth place finish
00:02:17racing bulls will be delighted with that news williams will be disconsolate at that news
00:02:22because it's going to cost them a position and the red flag flies in monaco
00:02:27this is george russell so he's in the fast lane he's in the fast lane he now goes into the
00:02:33slow lane
00:02:35and he didn't serve the penalty that he got for speeding in the pit lane the right front knew what
00:02:39they were doing the the left front went straight on they were waiting yeah so is that is a communication
00:02:45error for serving the penalty and in the confusion of a late safety car deployment for lance stroll in the
00:02:53barrier this race has turned completely on its head it was it was strange there wasn't a lot to remark
00:02:58about we had uh lando norris oliver behemann valtteri bottas and max estappen retiring but when lance
00:03:03stroll hit the barrier on the restart we have seen charles claire go to the wall and now we line
00:03:10up in
00:03:10the pit lane and we await a restart in monaco there is a potential here if the race director chooses
00:03:20a standing restart option but i got to tell you it's totally in the discretion of ruin markets
00:03:28your your analysis program is going to be about three hours long
00:03:33that's a good sign for monaco grand prix there's not been a lot of overtaking there's been plenty of
00:03:37action gasly's got another penalty so he hasn't served his first he's picked up a second he's had a
00:03:45brilliant weekend behind the wheel whatever is going on with these drivers coming through the pit lane
00:03:52at 60 kph it is going to be incredibly punishing for uh for gasly 10 seconds to serve now russell
00:04:01may
00:04:02well have a bigger penalty coming as well it could be a standing restart limblad has absolutely
00:04:11got himself to where he needs to do racing bulls have gone brave with the strategy they've done
00:04:16probably the only option that might get them there and luck has played its part to get them there
00:04:20seventh and eighth
00:04:24all right party people let's give you an update on what we think is going on with the pit lane
00:04:29there
00:04:30are suggestions from teams on the radio that it is cutting the distance across the line in front of
00:04:37cadillac that is shortening the distance and therefore on average speeding in the pit lane
00:04:43yeah okay so when i was racing you had to be consistent with your line when you were doing
00:04:49pit entries through the weekend so especially on the pit entry you used to be able to cut a little
00:04:54bit and
00:04:55uh the team would say if you're going to cut a little bit cut a little bit all the time
00:04:59because it's
00:04:59done on averages through the uh through the pit lane and so you can now do that on the exit
00:05:07as well
00:05:08where cadillac are you can obviously nibble a little bit to the left hand side and drivers that haven't
00:05:14been doing it through the weekend where it's been calibrated and now doing it in the race let's have
00:05:19a look with with gazzy so you come in you cut the left there you've got to do it all
00:05:23the weekend because
00:05:24that is how you you get the sensor to be perfect through these averages we're then coming through
00:05:29is he then going to cut down the left on the exit let's have a look whether he cuts across
00:05:35so your distance there is potentially what is shorting it and causing the speeding in the pit lane
00:05:41penalties so he does and colopinto does now colopinto is not a great reference because he's also got one
00:05:46of these penalties and i wonder if that's not been possible to the team so far through the weekend maybe
00:05:53had cadillac out in the garage or you've had you've had something there that means that on the way in
00:05:59there's no there's no garage there so it's free choice on the way out that is cadillac space so that
00:06:05is the difference there that makes that's the hey we've got a we've got a sensible solution in the end
00:06:10to
00:06:10this but why have alpine allowed pierre gazdy to go through and do it again and not had a check
00:06:17of what
00:06:17was going on they've got the data available to them i can tell you the red flag is for this
00:06:22track
00:06:22break up so the race director will inspect this uh they're going to sweep the track gotta say
00:06:29congratulations to the monaco grand prix marshals they've been exemplary all weekend they clear the
00:06:34car so quickly in every category they'll sweep it but there will be a call to be made by the
00:06:40race
00:06:40director about whether he thinks that that is an acceptable surface of the race track and if he
00:06:44doesn't he can call a halt to the monaco grand prix and freeze the order that is available to him
00:06:51in the rule book as well maybe gives more explanation as to why stroll had that strange look even though
00:06:57you can see the marvels there track break up losing grip and drivers still turning in you've got stroll
00:07:03going in and then the next time they're trying to attack with any speed you've got charlotte claire going
00:07:07in as well
00:07:15that's avid linblad uh in conversation
00:07:21and we've got a shootout to win the monaco grand prix
00:07:26i can tell you the max staff has already gone home he only lives 500 meters away uh but his
00:07:33teammate
00:07:34what an opportunity for a first podium i mean he must have thought his grand prix was done and instead
00:07:40he might finish it on the podium that he would desperately desperately want he's uh alone with his
00:07:46thoughts for the moment he was saying earlier on how just emotionally tiring a monaco weekend is he
00:07:54who's been brilliant here last year as well had a great run in the racing bulls car and it is
00:07:58to
00:07:58the concentration levels the intensity of this weekend is like nothing else when you hear him on
00:08:03the radio you absolutely feel it don't you for him imagine living on the rev limiter like he does
00:08:09for such a long period of time he's driven a great race to be in third frustrated george russell
00:08:15managed to uh stay ahead of piastri somehow and now he's got a golden opportunity of a podium and he
00:08:23will be exhausted later he won't be the only one what a strange grand prix it could yet all change
00:08:30let's hear from the first story in the race there max verstappen we wondered whether he could put the
00:08:36pressure on kimmy antonelli to the first turn he couldn't he was the first retirement instead let's
00:08:41hear from him now hey max obviously hard luck out there just how frustrating is it for that to happen
00:08:48given the amazing qualifying you had yesterday well i mean uh after such a nice weekend for us you at
00:08:54least hope to be on the podium right uh yeah when you of course then retire basically straight away
00:09:01is i think painful for everyone there's also no need to be super upset because i think everyone is
00:09:06already really disappointed about it and uh yeah it's just a shame for everyone i mean i really hope that
00:09:14i could do something or at least make an exciting race try and put the pressure on because i really
00:09:19felt good this whole weekend and now to basically come away with zero points is uh yeah probably even
00:09:25more painful so what kind of happened in those moments when the lights were going out and then i
00:09:29saw you did eventually get going but then pulled off yeah i think already the formation that wasn't
00:09:33particularly great but then um in the pre-side already the engine was responding very weird so
00:09:39normally at one point you find your your rpm target but it was the engine was basically not doing that
00:09:43and then when i dropped the clutch uh it basically dropped dead i only had the battery at one point
00:09:48that helped me go forward um and uh yeah after that the engine sounded really bad as soon as i
00:09:54had a bit of power back and i'm sure if i would have just gone flat out within the lap
00:09:58i would
00:09:58have destroyed it completely so they told me to bring it back slowly no hard luck thanks
00:10:05max estappen in conversation with laurence ferretto precisely 90 minutes before he wanted to be
00:10:11kimmy antonelli has done everything right today and he holds the position that he would have wanted
00:10:16it is the latest restart that we've had in monaco since 2017 and it could yet all change it looks
00:10:22tricky out there it looks especially tricky at turn 19 because the track is breaking up
00:10:28rui marquez race director is uh let's look out the commentary box window now yeah he's having an inspection of
00:10:34it at the moment this is the crowd in front of the commentary boxes i'm going to do a little
00:10:40bit
00:10:40of tourism for you uh the race has been paused if you're just joining us antonelli has dominated this
00:10:45event and he has just had so much pace in comparison to lewis hamilton who looked like he was going
00:10:51to be
00:10:52on the podium with his teammate charlotte claire but charlotte claire skated wide on the restart it
00:10:59promotes isaac hadjar to third position george russell is under investigation for failing to serve
00:11:07his time penalty correctly that usually results in a 10 second penalty he's back together
00:11:17and then it is gasly piastri lawson arvid linblad was looking for a red flag and he got it there's
00:11:23marquez uh he was for a long time the formula three and formula two race director learned he's trade
00:11:29there and then got promoted to the big job and he is now at this moment assessing whether the racing
00:11:40surface is acceptable is it likely that we would effectively have with that breakup marble style on
00:11:48the racing line if he feels it's too far he can call a conclusion to the race that is available
00:11:53as
00:11:54an option for him conversely if you like a little bit of drama he could send them around and do
00:12:00a
00:12:00standing start so all things are possible journey into an unknown track surface heading into anthony nose
00:12:08i mean this is tough to know which way this is going to go they're all having a look and
00:12:12and seeing it we completed so much of the race 68 laps still sweeping the mom i mean there was
00:12:18so
00:12:19much marbles down there and uh marshals as ever doing a good job they they cleared leclerc's car so
00:12:27quickly didn't they i was surprised when the the red flag went but you can see the the track breakup
00:12:33new bit of bit of tarmac down there and it's uh it's not not stood up to a full weekend
00:12:39of uh of running
00:12:42well for kimmy antonelli he will be thinking you know what we've seen enough today
00:12:50staring at a fifth consecutive grand prix victory he would be the first italian to win since 2004
00:12:59and he would extend his advantage in the world championship beyond two grand prix wins limblad
00:13:06staying cool isn't he staying chipper down there with oliver roland
00:13:11was a development driver at reno when i was there ollie roland super quick gasly's just been told he's
00:13:16got another penalty coming oh oh the frustration he's done what he will deem as absolutely nothing
00:13:24wrong great qualifying effort for him to be ninth putting together a good weekend got a place at the
00:13:31start got ahead of norris absorbed the pressure aye aye 10 seconds worth of penalty for something so
00:13:39silly and innocuous and that is displayed by the amount of other drivers that have done the same thing
00:13:48we're under red flag conditions at the monaco grand prix after lance stroll and then
00:13:54charles claire hit the barriers and an incident involving isaac hadja under the safety car is now noted
00:14:07i saw derek warwick on the grid part of the uh the stewarding panel wandered past him at green light
00:14:12and nearly said good luck yeah he's he's very busy man at the moment i said yeah you'll be hoping
00:14:19for
00:14:19a nice quiet day not a lot of overtaking few incidents you sign up to monaco and you think ah
00:14:24there won't be too much further there won't be too much to do nice weekend on the harbour side
00:14:29au contraire just have a look at some track limits or something oh my word they have been busy round
00:14:35of applause for many for charles claire for his efforts this weekend good to see fred basur back
00:14:42after having to miss yesterday under medical observation
00:14:50and this well we find ourselves playing the waiting game it's up to the race director it is entirely up
00:14:58to
00:14:58him whether he thinks the conditions are raceable out there whether he thinks they can continue with
00:15:05this grand prix or whether he will call an end to it and all the penalties will cycle through we'll
00:15:12get
00:15:12a final classification but there's a lot hanging over plenty of drivers right now
00:15:20it's not dampening the spirits down in the harbour that could be right worst places to be
00:15:26a sporting event goes this is right up there and as sporting watchable locations go that is right up
00:15:33there back of a yacht by some of the fastest most exhilarating corners on the calendar
00:15:39okay well we've got a resumption order
00:15:46that is uh listed for you that it's it's the order when we got the red flag but we'll wait
00:15:51to see
00:15:52whether we go to the uh 10 minute restart procedure uh that race control would notify all the teams for
00:16:00they get told and then there's a procedure we count down and then it's up to remark as whether we
00:16:04have a
00:16:04rolling start or a standing start so still under uh on the discussion but we're certainly heading
00:16:12towards a restart with a start order and getting the the cars uh settled in that place so iokamatsu
00:16:19there smiling with estevan ocon he's ahead of nika hulkenberg 11th place chance of a point uh
00:16:26he'll need some more drama to happen for for that to be the case but maybe gazley's 10 second penalty
00:16:31will be there with with only 10 laps to uh to try and get that sorted i don't have no
00:16:37idea how
00:16:37ocon got ahead of had a hulkenberg in there neither of them pitted for uh for tires when the the
00:16:42safety
00:16:42car was out lots to be resolved at the monaco grand prix it's a good time to check in with
00:16:48ruth busker
00:16:50with 10 laps to go we have more to play for than we we thought we might have now here
00:16:54after that 55
00:16:56historically the chance of safety car goes up we have reliability issues starting to creep in things
00:17:00like the brakes they're screaming on fire and also when it comes to strategy both the drivers and the
00:17:06teams get more aggressive making lunges and then what we have here is a phenomenon yellows breed
00:17:11yellows accidents breeze accidents the safety car compresses the field on every restart there's a
00:17:16chance of another incident with 10 laps to go on a restart if we get a standing start it could
00:17:22all
00:17:22change once again and we can have another safety car or even another red flag looking at the cars
00:17:28at the front no one has got a brand new soft left so they're going to be choosing the best
00:17:33soft
00:17:33tire they have available uh to try and get that grip off the line with lewis hamilton uh being in
00:17:40the prime position to be able to sneak that win off of antonelli further back well done to v carb
00:17:46they actually kept limblad out to defend lawson at the restart and in doing so when the red flag came
00:17:52both cars cashed in with an extra stop and also well done to williams who've managed to do some bit
00:17:57of
00:17:57teamwork by backing off of up to one and a half to two seconds which has secured album currently in
00:18:02p7
00:18:03can he stay within the seconds of ghastly to be able to do it i'm expecting drama from the front
00:18:08to
00:18:09the back of the grid on this restart it isn't over it's a race of attrition and frankly we still
00:18:14don't
00:18:14know who the winner's going to be thank you ruth it ain't over till it's over
00:18:23so it's a drive-through penalty for george russell it's a drive through penalty for failing to serve
00:18:30his original speeding in the pit lane penalty correctly and his difficult weekend just gone
00:18:38even harder a consequential moment if you make a pit stop after receiving a time penalty
00:18:48that is the moment to serve it he did not do so the car was serviced and that is a
00:18:57drive-through penalty with the field backed up
00:19:00kimmy antonelli's brilliant day just got even better it feels like a huge milestone in the world
00:19:09championship well this weekend could have gone this way or that way or this way again for george
00:19:18sixth on the grid losing max verstappen at the start of the race isaac hadjar in trouble he jumps in
00:19:24for
00:19:25fourth that would have become third with leclerc being out of the race and what a save that would
00:19:30have been from another difficult weekend instead it has flopped entirely the other way a drive-through
00:19:37penalty i mean that's going to obviously put him right at the back of the field here and that is
00:19:42nil point with his teammate looking for a maximum score high on confidence fastest lap of the race
00:19:49on position heading for five in a row but he may well have to do a standing start again he's
00:19:57coped with
00:19:57one but he's now got a ferrari on the front row we know how good they are at start so
00:20:01that's the
00:20:02the one thing that now george will hope that that something befalls his teammate teammates
00:20:11not really when it comes down to uh to a championship they are your first rival and
00:20:16they are title rivals so i mean george is not going to be in a good spot though is he
00:20:21well it is incredibly tough when you know that everywhere you go this was the big question we
00:20:27came into this weekend and there were plenty speculating that ferrari were going to have a
00:20:31chance they were so many people's favorites ahead of the start of the weekend kimmy antonelli found an
00:20:38inspirational lap so did max verstappen verstappen didn't have the reliability to get off the line
00:20:44but in the grand prix distance this has been dominant there is the track that's been that's part of the
00:20:50track clearly a resurface ahead of this year's grand prix and it's taken a bit of punishment with 22 formula
00:20:58one cars going over it stay with us we could yet get something genuinely extraordinary george russell
00:21:08is facing a drive-through penalty he'll be he'll be just desperate to get out of here and try and
00:21:17reset
00:21:18it is a big moment as it stands uh when he serves that drops to the back of the field
00:21:24lewis hamilton's
00:21:25going to overtake him for second place in the point standings would have speak would have seemed
00:21:29unthinkable when we left melbourne but that would be the case but that is what we have seen transpire and
00:21:37uh the incident involving hadjar is under investigation for that safety car infringement about 20 minutes
00:21:42ago have we any idea what that was i don't came through the pits managed to to get ahead of
00:21:54of george but
00:21:57then hadjar becomes the latest one for the sewers to have a look at so who is going to step
00:22:02up for uh
00:22:04for a podium here of course it depends what sort of penalty it is because a five second penalty hadjar
00:22:09could probably absorb you're going to have russell you're going to have a gasly there with penalties
00:22:13of their own to serve so you are then looking at piastri to try and get close i don't know
00:22:18if isaac knows
00:22:19that he's under investigation or not but he is a cool customer right now a waiting word from race
00:22:26control the last update about hadjar but we stand by under the red flag conditions gives us a chance to
00:22:35hear from another one of our retirements winner of the grand prix here last year didn't finish this
00:22:40lando norris has been speaking to us downstairs hey lando you just haven't had much luck this year from
00:22:46a reliability perspective just sum up how you're feeling right now after today pretty good i'm
00:22:51actually happy to be out the race um now i mean look i'm fighting for a p8 uh i guess
00:22:57there's a penalty
00:22:58now this is my chance to be there and i get a few points and you know at this point
00:23:03of the year we're
00:23:03not you know we're not expecting a we're not expecting a win or a podium but you know we need
00:23:10to
00:23:10maximize sixth seventh fifth little points along the way and they all add up um and i'm working hard
00:23:16the team are working hard and we're just not getting rewarded we're just being i guess unlucky
00:23:20some of it's our fault some of it's um you know failures some of it's just being unlucky so
00:23:26i don't know we're doing the best we can i'm doing the best i can but uh when you just
00:23:30can't
00:23:30finish a race i don't know what i should really expect
00:23:37well lando norris understandably philosophical uh he will look to the end of the year and trying to
00:23:42ratchet up wins he had a superb drive in miami uh pushed antonelli all the way and certainly
00:23:50resisted the pressure as part of the four wins in a row that antonelli's put together the first driver
00:23:54ever to win his first grand prix in formula one and follow it up with three more might be four
00:23:59more
00:23:59by the end of the day
00:24:04so penalties hanging over potential penalty hanging over isaac hatcher definite penalty given to george
00:24:11russell of a drive-through a restart order has been issued but we are waiting uh for word from race
00:24:18control about when we will get going and this is george russell this is isaac hatcher
00:24:24is it's going to be a hajar safety car infringement i just think carlix way more than text carlix copy
00:24:38that is the rule it's absolutely clear that is the rule does anyone fancy standing on the podium at
00:24:47monaco alongside kimmy antonelli and lewis hamilton very very strange uh big opportunity for hajar
00:24:55but they will be able to look at the on board they will be able to judge whether it is
00:24:5910 car lengths
00:25:00and if it is over 10 car lengths that will be a penalty applied to hatch up russell having to
00:25:06serve
00:25:06that penalty with gasly with a penalty as well and oscar piastri
00:25:15an odd day might be rewarded with a trophy for it
00:25:20one of those days isn't it you've got just excellence out front antonelli
00:25:27with the performance of his life at the moment it's just everything's going right for him
00:25:32hamilton's doing absolutely solidly he got away with the the penalty that he picked up by virtue of
00:25:39his teammate coming in and stacking behind him and not being able to benefit from that five seconds
00:25:43it's not super quick at any moment in the race but he might have a chance to uh
00:25:50he might have a chance to do something although i've just seen he's also been noted for a safety car
00:25:54infringement my word max estappen trying to get his car off the line to contend with
00:26:02timmy antonelli he went a few meters he retired beltry votas called back by the cadillac team
00:26:09for his second retirement of the season his first was in the opening grand prix of the year oliver
00:26:15bearman called back as well
00:26:19pulling up at the pits he retired on lap 30.
00:26:26lando norris had george russell directly behind him he reported an issue on the radio earlier on and
00:26:33then another problem
00:26:37lance stroll now watch the part of the track that he goes over
00:26:43yeah scraped over the breakup and into the tech pro to begin a sequence of events that would have big
00:26:49consequences for the podium positions antonelli hamilton but not leclaire after this moment into
00:26:55the wall yeah so what looks to be marbles from the tire is break up from the track and that's
00:27:00why you could see it on the left front of of stroll and you could hear it as he as
00:27:05he went wide so he's
00:27:06got on that on the on the the marbles which is not rubber it's uh it's little bits of asphalt
00:27:13let's put straw off and then leclaire as well so sweep up hopefully we'll we'll do a bit of a
00:27:17job
00:27:1810 laps to go if we get this thing going again and hamilton confirmed under investigation for a
00:27:26safety car infringement one of those days isn't it adrian newey looking on thinking hang on
00:27:32am i going to get a point here alonso's 14th colopinto's got a penalty coming
00:27:37the race will resume and it will resume in 10 minutes time the signal given
00:27:43they believe the 19th corner is raceable and we will have a tight pack we will have a restart it
00:27:50is
00:27:50dry it is absolutely possible that we're going to have the five red lights going out once again
00:27:56and hamilton under investigation hadja under investigation russell with a drive-through
00:28:04penalty gasly with a penalty oscar piastri finding himself in sixth position the points currently
00:28:12rounded out by liam lawson avid linblad alex alban and carlos science laser focus once again
00:28:20a man that's taken everything in his stride has got one more big test to bring home a monaco grand
00:28:26prix win it's rare they make them easy somehow the pole sitter in monaco doesn't usually get
00:28:33a straightforward run to win it and uh an antonelli has got to get this thing off the line
00:28:39with hamilton in second place now that ferrari has been a rocket ship off the line
00:28:44the consistency of launch has been so good hamilton without a ferrari victory as well
00:28:50will be so hungry to put the pressure on to antonelli do you think antonelli would think
00:28:56championship if hamilton's half around the outside or is he going to think monaco win
00:29:02let's have a look whether lewis hamilton is 10 car lengths
00:29:07back from kimmy antonelli can't even see kimmy antonelli
00:29:12that's currently under investigation right i think this rule gets gets flexed all the time
00:29:18so antonelli goes accelerates with the safety car now it looks pretty dramatic there for for hamilton
00:29:25it is a rule it's it's there george russell certainly knows it i think if you go through you'd
00:29:30probably see that rule getting getting stretched a little bit at times in the end now it's up to
00:29:37the stewards to decide we have those both looming over hamilton and hajar second and third
00:29:44and certainly lewis would have come around probably to back corner and thought oh that feels like a big
00:29:49gap now towards the race leader nine minutes to go until we restart the monaco grand prix round six
00:29:57of the season and it is a consequential day where kimmy antonelli looks to be adding another
00:30:0425 points to his tally everyone else getting penalties running into trouble
00:30:10he has been serene out front but it very much looks
00:30:17like he is going to hold all the cards on the restart purely because everyone else behind him
00:30:23has upset race control has there ever been a start or a restart where the guy on pole is just
00:30:29tailed by
00:30:29four drivers with penalties very very strange occurrence and uh arvid linbad in conversation
00:30:38with adam to main he used to work with adam to main in your racing days in formula one he's
00:30:43not
00:30:43ambiguous with these instructions is he no i i like it because he's he is the epitome of no nonsense
00:30:50he will tell you you're rubbish if you're rubbish he'll tell you got a chance if you got a chance
00:30:54uh some of
00:30:56his radio over the years has been iconic and he's been there and done it for so long he's doing

00:32:57obviously frustrating to not be able to finish that race just tell me through that moment at that final
00:33:02corner yeah the we have issues with the uh the engine braking so um every lap every corner the engine
00:33:10braking changes some laps is pushing me forward some laps is pulling me so on that uh corner it just
00:33:17pushed me forward like at the throttle pedal half you know 50 on throttle and then uh going into the
00:33:23wall
00:33:27and that's all she wrote for the aston martin of lance stroll uh they've had such a tough season
00:33:35adrian new is saying to you before the race jordan they're just waiting to get that
00:33:39big upgrade in the summer on the car and this effectively that's the moment they'll they'll really
00:33:45start this season yeah spar florence stroll told me on the grid adrian's basically confirming it
00:33:52waiting there they're not going to bring bits and bobs they're going to bring the whole lot
00:33:55at the same time power unit and uh get this chassis working as well there's nowhere to hide behind the
00:34:02power unit around monaco there's a lot more that's not going right with aston martin braking systems
00:34:09are so complex now the rear axle with the mg uk doing the braking trying to recharge the uh energy
00:34:16into the battery on the front you've got your uh your old school brakes and somewhere in between
00:34:23you've got a brake balance shifting around and if suddenly you feel like you've got a load of push
00:34:27because the the mt uk is doing something that you're you're not quite expecting that's the result there that
00:34:35the lance was describing and uh very very complex car some a little bit easier than others and obviously
00:34:41the aston martin right now seems the hardest of them all they've been racing these parts since 1929
00:34:51it is a fabled race it's seen some incredible days and it has a safety car restart to come your
00:34:58way that
00:34:58could yet turn into a standing start if the race director deems that the right route to take
00:35:04colopinto has just been told that on the radio it could be a standing start and that would be a
00:35:09real examination of perhaps the only weakness we've seen from kimmy antonelli all year i can't see any
00:35:17reason it wouldn't be a standing start the race director is at his discretion he can choose but
00:35:23the conditions are absolutely fine the issue with the track was at the final corner where they'll all be
00:35:29sorted out by the time they get through there it won't matter if it's a standing or a rolling
00:35:33so i would have thought that this would be a standing start but we will wait for confirmation
00:35:39of course if you're antonelli just please give me a rolling start that didn't look easy as it was for
00:35:45antonelli with tire temperatures in play trying to get that dialed in and feeding the throttle through
00:35:51raskas and out of the final corner we've seen some incredible finishes for the monaco grand prix through
00:35:59the years it was once decided on the last lap at the final corner when jack brabham locked up gifted
00:36:05the win to jock and rin we had the race in the early 80s where we had five drivers spin
00:36:12out or have
00:36:13content spin out of contention or have mechanical problems kimmy antonelli does not want to add to
00:36:19that collection and he finds himself ready to go through the final procedure let's very quickly
00:36:27hear from charles leclerc who will not be taking part in this restart he found the barriers at his home
00:36:33grand prix and he went straight to the pen to speak to us hey charl really have i seen you
00:36:39so upset i
00:36:40can understand that you're hurt and angry right now just sum up your emotions uh yeah i mean extremely
00:36:46uh disappointed sad angry mixed off negative emotions um yeah i don't know how much i can go into the
00:36:59details but uh i don't think uh i mean it's uh it's just not acceptable and the issues i've faced
00:37:15with
00:37:17with my brakes have have been important it's it's not that it's difficult is that in this particular
00:37:24moment it's just impossible i cannot do anything the only thing i can do is not break for the last
00:37:31corner but uh in a formula one car not breaking in the last corner ends up in the wall anyway
00:37:35so
00:37:36i put the least amount of brakes i could possibly do and it's not even breaking it's leaning my foot
00:37:41on
00:37:41the brake and the rear brakes was not working at all so i don't know if there was an issue
00:37:46there or
00:37:47or if it's just the inconsistency i get and the front um delivered a lot more than what it should
00:37:52so
00:37:53that's what happened obviously second successive weekend you've struggled with the brakes how much
00:37:58hope can you have that there'll be a fix in time for spain we have a fix um we we
00:38:04have different
00:38:05configurations between cars and i think we found the solution so that is positive i didn't really
00:38:12want to change this weekend and for that maybe i am to blame in a way that i i thought
00:38:17that on a
00:38:18track like this in monaco it was good to start with brakes that i knew but considering the issue
00:38:24the issues i've dealt with and that there are no solutions no solutions on a track like this
00:38:34well for charles leclerc the devastation of seeing a home podium slip away and the weekend he committed
00:38:44his future to ferrari answers for the team to find for their driver the fia have reminded everyone to
00:38:51stay within 10 car lengths when we put a green light at the end of the pit lane and we
00:38:58will trail
00:38:58out of the pit lane in a few moments time with kimmy antinelli ahead of lewis hamilton hadjo under the
00:39:05looming thread of investigation the potential penalty for falling more than 10 car lengths back george
00:39:11russell when we resume the race we'll have to serve a drive-through penalty pierre gasly has two
00:39:16five second penalties for speeding in the pit lane oscar piastri liam lawson arvid linblad alex alban and
00:39:24carlos signs are the top 10. there has been the message that it is possible to have multiple laps
00:39:33here kimmy antinelli now catches the safety car the race director can run as many laps as he wants to
00:39:39behind the safety car to assess whether the track is raceable at turn 19 before giving the signal to
00:39:46restart the rest and of course the gaps all look really big between all the uh all the drivers as
00:39:51they're catching the safety car all leaning on it trying to get some tires up you can see lewis with
00:39:55a bit of opposite lock coming out of 48 and now they bunch up behind the safety car this is
00:40:00when you're
00:40:00more able to just dictate your own pace and of course have a most of it dictated by those ahead
00:40:06of you or the
00:40:06safety car hajar again is leaving the gaps george russell once again on the radio once again
00:40:16saying that hajar is leaving big gaps they've all been warned about it as well you cannot drop
00:40:22according to the rule book further back than 10 car lengths otherwise you run the risk of a penalty
00:40:27and as you say jolly it's not always evenly applied sometimes if it gets missed you might get away with
00:40:32it
00:40:32but once one person's put the appeal up everyone gets scrutinized yeah keep pushing keep pushing
00:40:40here a lot of power it's coming back
00:40:45so the issue is with it you can be let's say you're you're haja or let's say you're further down
00:40:51in the
00:40:51pack you're lawson if piastri leaves eight car lengths to gasly and then guns it it'll very quickly put some
00:40:59car lengths to you so all of these things get harder and harder to be there with acceleration
00:41:05of formula one cars so extreme that everyone's leaving gaps you of course you're not going to
00:41:08drive on the gearbox of the car ahead so it it just gets a little bit more spread the further
00:41:14back you
00:41:15get and then as soon as someone then drills it through two or three corners then suddenly you're
00:41:20like oh how did that gap get so big so quickly and i think that's what you're seeing a little
00:41:25bit with
00:41:25with some of the gaps thanks for staying with us we're about to enjoy a standing start it gives
00:41:30an opportunity to so many and the news has come through i think they have just swept it yeah i've
00:41:36still broken up you copy so antonelli reporting back the track is breaking up at turn 19. he will have
00:41:46to take a second standing star the five red lights will come on and when they go out it will
00:41:51be a genuine
00:41:52fight for the win because lewis hamilton has been cleared by the stewards no further action on a
00:41:58safety car infringement we have a genuine battle off the line to win the monaco grand prix that's huge
00:42:04gather your focus again we wait for confirmation of hajar receiving the the same no further action but
00:42:10wasn't exactly the the same case but the same crime between the two of them he'll be hoping the
00:42:16same and not be thinking about that whatsoever as they come past our commentary position and get
00:42:22ready for another go at a sprint format in monaco well there are sprint formats and there are sprint
00:42:30formats kimmy antonelli trying to get some tire temperature in those soft pirelli tires so we'll do
00:42:37the race start and then we'll get two racing laps and then we will need to do a drive-through
00:42:42penalty
00:42:46george russell being informed of the penalty
00:42:51kimmy antonelli lining up he was miles clear the grand prix was won but it's never straightforward
00:43:00to win in monaco he has struggled off the line in 2026 he needs the best start of his season
00:43:08to get
00:43:08it right he is miles back in his grip box as well i don't know if he's going to creep
00:43:12forward or not
00:43:13but he is a long way back which gives hamilton a bit more of a chance eight meters between lewis
00:43:21hamilton a three-time monaco grand prix winner and kimmy antonelli it is nearly time for the second start
00:43:28of the monaco grand prix here come the lights
00:43:35antonelli versus hamilton to win the grand prix and antonelli crawls off the line but he's got what
00:43:42he needs and he holds off lewis hamilton hadjar gets a poor getaway he tumbles down and through go the
00:43:49two drivers who need to serve the penalty past him russell and gasly get by hadjar tumbles down but
00:43:55there's still penalties to be served and russell is super slow and what's going on with george russell
00:44:01managed to get up into third place but look how far back he is from everyone else backing the field
00:44:06up
00:44:06incredibly has he got an issue george russell has to serve a drive-through penalty it's chaos behind
00:44:13look at this between the racing balls russell's oh into the wall and damage for signs as hulkenberg
00:44:22makes contact and goes up to take position lawson and lidblad were close as well antonelli is 1.4
00:44:29seconds clear on an extraordinary restart lap and now we see signs tumble out of the points as a result
00:44:36of
00:44:36that contact well it all starts from george russell on a go slow mission like he's in a protest on
00:44:42that
00:44:42first lap got up to third place he's got acceleration because he managed to get through the tunnel okay
00:44:47but through the hairpin section just fancy sitting in the middle of the road backing the entire pack up
00:44:53and then of course you get chances outside of the top 10 thinking all right it's now or never let's
00:44:57go for
00:44:58it kimmy antonelli with the start that he will treasure oh that's pressure when you've all but won the
00:45:05grand prix and you have to go back to a standing start he launched ahead of lewis hamilton who
00:45:10wasn't able to get close george russell still has to serve that drive-through penalty casley still
00:45:16has 10 seconds hanging over it i'm trying to work out what's going through george's head to to drive
00:45:21like that on the first lap he's obviously got to now bail out on the next lap to take his
00:45:26drive-through
00:45:27penalty we have seen him struggle with restarts earlier this year notably in china oh come on he was
00:45:33he was so slow he was it can't be it can't just be that he's from a standing start his
00:45:40teammates gone
00:45:41he's under pressure and dealing with it once again phenomenally well with lewis hamilton now what's
00:45:45the advantage i don't know if he's just trying to cause chaos further back and hope that there's
00:45:49another stoppage or a complete track blockage or something i've never seen anything like it risky
00:45:55though isn't it risky oh it's very very close between hulkenberg who is getting ahead of alex elvin but he
00:46:02did it off the road and he will know that he needs to give it back different warm-up different
00:46:07tires power deployment as well playing a part at the moment lawson did stay ahead of linblad who got
00:46:13very close hulkenberg is ninth but he's got to give the place back russell called to the bit lane
00:46:17yeah so that'll be russell down and out of things and he tumbles down to make it even better for
00:46:25kimmy antonelli it's gonna put perez up into 11th and alonso in 12th so there's a points chance for
00:46:30some of these minnows as well there goes russell out behind that lot and hajar has been noted for a
00:46:35red flag infringement now only noted he's got a safety car infringement hanging over him
00:46:42antonelli and hamilton are separated by 1.2 seconds gasly will have 10 seconds added to his race time when
00:46:49he crosses the line hulkenberg has not given the place up now he does and i think that's the sensible
00:46:52move alban stayed on the track if alban had to cut through he might have had a case but
00:46:57he had to give that one up it's still back up into the 10th which has become ninth with russell
00:47:03taking
00:47:03his drive through still his first points of the year it's the it's the right approach that would
00:47:08have been penalized for hulkenberg ocon is now on to score a point hajar has been cleared of the safety
00:47:13car infringement but the red flag infringement will be investigated after the race right not a clue on
00:47:20that one but yes we've had all the infringements come up in uh in this one i don't know if
00:47:28any of
00:47:28them have been from any sort of incident with cars together but that'll come for whoever tip carlos
00:47:33signs into a spin as well i'm sure this was george russell ahead and then you can see
00:47:41further back you get the contact carlos into the wall yeah it's it's hulkenberg yeah he's not
00:47:48trying to pass sites i don't think that he just doesn't have the steering lock to do anything else
00:47:52but he's trying to turn around and they just catch right front into left rear it's a tough one here
00:47:59we
00:48:09i mean that's such a difficult corner to negotiate anyway right part two franco colopinto trying to
00:48:15get by and this is why he was facing the wrong way two taps for carlos signs yeah getting really
00:48:20beaten
00:48:20up on the restart he's finishing the points every single monaco grand prix he started uh this one he
00:48:27will not out of the race and he was on for that he was on for that moment piastri all
00:48:32over the back of
00:48:33hadja hadja's been cleared of the safety car infringement but not the red flag infringement
00:48:37so gasly has 10 seconds of penalty to serve where can he end up with this because right now he
00:48:44can
00:48:44serve that and still be eight but with every lap that gasly backs up piastri and lawson's not going
00:48:50with them either gasly can make this better so he has to go full tilt for the last four laps
00:48:56of this
00:48:57grand prix and see what he can produce something spectacular to get a great return still for alpine
00:49:02might yet come towards him kimmy antonelli about to extend his championship advantage
00:49:09lewis hamilton about to rise
00:49:15that's the best case for gasly in third place hadja with no power i'm sure that's what must have
00:49:20cost him off the line as well on the on the start there just not able to get anything as
00:49:26soon as the
00:49:26lights went out no acceleration from him the stack been out right at the start
00:49:31and hadja also has been fighting that since the workout we don't have a clue what red bull are
00:49:36capable of in terms of race space because the only one in there has been nursing an issue
00:49:40carlos aynes charlotte claire lance troll lando norris oliver bearman cabril
00:49:46and at the very start of the race max verstappen a race of attrition a race heading towards kimmy
00:49:53antonelli hamilton just has no pace to fight but he will be looking at back-to-back podiums had to
00:49:59hear a whole season have you not been on a grand prix podium for ferrari it's looking he's third of
00:50:03the campaign and uh the second in a row well you can't believe that's come up again can you perez
00:50:11out
00:50:11position again no way he had a drive through for that at the start of the race
00:50:17this is it's a mad mad day the amount of penalties i don't really have anything to compare it to
00:50:25i've never seen a grand prix with this many penalties this many investigations what a great
00:50:30example of how epic it is rotating a formula one car into casino square technicalities as well all the
00:50:38ones that we've seen absolutely bizarre so hajar is under investigation but if you're piastri you
00:50:48cannot guarantee that that's going to be a penalty or not we don't know what it's for a red flag
00:50:52infringement of sorts there's a podium on the line gazley's not escaping i just got enough pace to stay
00:50:58within three seconds which is comfortably the podiums and this is your podium fight with two and a
00:51:03half laps to go if perez manages to get in the top 10 and gets pinged for being out of
00:51:09position on the
00:51:09start i mean wow cadillac will be devastated our gallery have wound it back and had a look and they
00:51:16say he's long in the box they say it's slam dunk oh come on you don't know what this hedgehog
00:51:20penalty is
00:51:21going to be i don't know if anyone else is going to pick something up if he gets done for
00:51:26that wow
00:51:29kimmy antonelli has put in the fastest lap of the race second and a half quicker than hamilton on
00:51:36the lap just unbelievable pace that the 19 year old born in bologna has access to and no one has
00:51:44been
00:51:44able to live with him in this grand prix that we are on the penultimate lap of he's on another
00:51:49planet
00:51:50isn't he what a talent and he's just got the confidence that we saw in canada when he was just
00:51:56attack
00:51:57attack attack attack on george russell the whole time didn't mind if he was forced out onto the
00:52:01grass bouncing there and giving another go he has got so much confidence and behind all that he has
00:52:08got an incredible amount of talent as well toto wolf saw it all those years ago fast tracked him into
00:52:14mercedes he had to ride a bit of a choppy roller coaster last year but when it goes right my
00:52:20word he is
00:52:21displaying all the hallmarks of a champion right now we are on board with oscar piastri
00:52:29fifth place for him staying tight to hadjar who will be investigated for a red flag infringement
00:52:35after the race gasly will have 10 seconds added to his race time to drop him down from what would
00:52:41be
00:52:42such a meaningful result for the driver who spent so much time at the back but we're on the 78th
00:52:49and
00:52:50last lap of the monaco grand prix it has been a penalty fest it has been a race of attrition
00:52:56but it has been
00:52:57an absolute exhibition from kimmy antonelli who from a standing start with a few laps to go leads by 6

00:56:47final point what if perez is long in his box and that gifts it to aston martin that will be

00:57:00a former winner of this grand prix but it might be a parking penalty that cost cadillac their first
00:57:07point in formula one uh fernando alonso would inherit it isaac hadjar says well done to kimmy
00:57:12antonelli what a story for kimmy antonelli this season suddenly that looked for all the world like
00:57:21it was going to be a mercedes fest week in week out maybe sometimes antonelli maybe sometimes russell so
00:57:28many thought that russell would dominate and instead it is antonelli who has won five grand
00:57:34prix in a row and everyone else in championship history who has done that has gone on to lift the
00:57:3968 points of championship lead over george russell over george russell lewis hamilton with the 18 climbs to
00:57:48second russell will surely still be the main contender with the pace that mercedes have got you're
00:57:54you're absolutely right to have that margin no one on the planet would have predicted that gap between
00:58:00the mercedes contenders when we left melbourne if at any stage at all you add in the form guide five
00:58:07wins in a row no points for the last two races for george of course his performance would have got
00:58:11him
00:58:11somewhere in there but his performance hasn't been on a par with his young teammate for for a while
00:58:18scratching his head as antonelli jumps into the arms of his mechanics this the story of two
00:58:25different sides of the mercedes garage right now it could not be more opposite it is surely the greatest
00:58:32day of kimmy antonelli's young career he has won the monaco grand prix and extended his championship
00:58:38lead beyond 60 points there's dc we saw him a while back pop down to speak to the top three
00:58:46and he's been
00:58:47down there waiting for the race to resume and the drivers to appear kimmy antonelli with a fifth win
00:58:56in formula one in a row in front of his father he's had his family with him earlier this year
00:59:03as well
00:59:05in japan in miami so many of the antonelli's years have orbited the chance for this driver but this
00:59:14this is something special and seasons are long we're going all the way to round 22 as it stands

01:01:06power on the rig on the restart and uh yeah and then having this red flag the uncertainty as to
01:01:14whether it's going to be great starts following or not getting your head back into to that so
01:01:20a very tough weekend and a tough afternoon i guess to finally get that podium yeah i mean honestly
01:01:27my restart i felt like i had a good start and then suddenly i had a hole and i lost
01:01:31two places
01:01:32um i knew uh the cards had that penalty but i had limited power and i never had to send
01:01:38it that
01:01:39much in my life through the corners uh to stay within five seconds of pierre but yeah it's an
01:01:44outstanding weekend considering how it started in fp1 i had no confidence to get back up um but we did
01:01:51it
01:01:51so yeah i'm happy excellent well well driven enjoy the podium thank you
01:02:08lewis hamilton you have now just had your eighth podium result here in monaco that equals the late
01:02:15great airton senna there's no no one more than you two guys have had more podiums you've been on it
01:02:21all weekend tell us about that journey yeah well i mean i i have to start by congratulating kimmy

01:02:36an amazing car and kimmy's doing an incredible job um just delivering weekend weekend out so
01:02:42it's it's great to see and um i'm really happy for them on our side i think we've been
01:02:47progressing over the past months and uh can't quite keep up with them just yet and it's probably going
01:02:54to take a lot of work for us to to get to their level but um to get to get
01:02:58another second place
01:02:59is it's such a great feeling especially in monaco under the trickiest conditions it was the hardest
01:03:04conditions out there and we've had such a great turnout today as well so um yeah i'll definitely take
01:03:09it but just briefly on that when you mentioned the difficult conditions what particularly of all of
01:03:14the grand prix's you've done here was giving you the biggest challenge uh i think for me it's really
01:03:20the the car is the car is a it's good but we need more downforce ultimately and and uh i
01:03:27think just
01:03:28with the with the tires with the different scenarios we had out there you know i ran out of tires
01:03:32quite
01:03:32early in the first stint and then i was on that long second stint and these tires aren't particularly
01:03:37great just over a long stint so holding on to that was going to be tough and then once we
01:03:42had to slow
01:03:42down on the safety car you lose all temperature and you saw with with other drivers out there that
01:03:48it was really hard to stay on track so i think just with all the different things that have been
01:03:51thrown at us it was it was massively challenging but uh really really grateful for the day happy
01:03:57grateful to the team that's here to to everyone back at the factory and all the all the guys here
01:04:02worked so hard to get this result they truly deserve um this and more and i just got to keep
01:04:08working
01:04:08harder to try and see if i can finally take that next step for them soon yeah well i know

01:05:45the grid start i would have thought i've got to do it all again but you're just soaking it up

01:05:51to be fair i wasn't super keen on restarting as well because uh yeah i was i didn't really want

01:05:57restart but then you know once the notification came out i just got on my my emotion my thoughts
01:06:04and i started to focus again looked at some data and so on and uh just tried to refocus on

01:06:10restarting and then trying to get the tires in the right temperature and then once i got away i knew

01:06:16was going to make into p1 into the first corner and then from that point on i just uh enjoyed
