00:06The new Rambo movie is finally moving forward, and a bunch of fans are already curious about
00:11whether anyone can really carry on such a legendary action franchise without Sylvester
00:16Stallone. That's been the biggest question surrounding the project ever since it was
00:21announced, because for decades, Stallone and John Rambo have basically felt inseparable.
00:26Even though Hollywood keeps revisiting old franchises these days, some characters just
00:32feel untouchable, and Rambo has always been one of them. But according to early reactions from the
00:37people behind the scenes, this new movie might actually be handling the legacy with a lot more
00:42care than people expected. The upcoming film is called John Rambo, and instead of continuing the
00:48story after Last Blood, it's going all the way back to the beginning. The movie is set before
00:53the events of First Blood, and focuses on Rambo's younger years during the Vietnam War when he was
00:59still a Green Beret. So, rather than trying to replace Stallone's older version of the character
01:04directly, the filmmakers are building an origin story that explains how John Rambo became the
01:10hardened and emotionally scarred man audiences met back in 1982. That's a smart move, because trying
01:17to continue the exact same timeline without Stallone probably would have felt strange to longtime fans.
01:23But exploring Rambo's earlier years gives the franchise room to tell a fresh story while still
01:29keeping the core of the character intact. It also allows the movie to dig deeper into the trauma,
01:35survival instincts, and emotional damage that shaped him before First Blood even happened.
01:41The original First Blood movie became an instant classic after its release in 1982. Directed by Ted
01:48Kocheff, the film introduced audiences to John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran who ends up in conflict with a
01:54small-town sheriff and eventually the National Guard. Even though later movies in the franchise leaned much
02:01harder into explosive action and over-the-top violence, the first film actually had a surprisingly emotional
02:07core. It was about isolation, trauma, and how veterans were treated after returning home from war.
02:14That emotional weight is part of why the movie connected with so many people.
02:18Of course, the action also became iconic. Stallone turned Rambo into one of the most recognizable
02:24action heroes in movie history, right alongside Rocky Balboa. Throughout the 80s, Stallone returned for
02:31multiple sequels, and each movie pushed the franchise further into huge-scale action territory.
02:36The character became larger than life because audiences loved watching this one unstoppable
02:42soldier take on impossible odds almost completely by himself. Even though some of the later films
02:49got pretty wild and campy at times, fans still embraced them because Stallone brought so much
02:54intensity and charisma to the role. His image became completely tied to Rambo over the years.
03:00So naturally, when Lionsgate announced a prequel starring someone else,
03:04a bunch of people were skeptical from the beginning. The new version of Rambo will be played by Noah
03:10Centineo, which surprised a lot of fans because many people still associate him with lighter roles
03:15and romantic comedies. But over the past few years, Centineo has slowly been building more action
03:22experience. He starred in Netflix's spy thriller series The Recruit, appeared as Atom Smasher in Black
03:28Atom and also took on more intense material in Alex Garland's war film Warfare. So although he may not
03:36seem like the obvious choice at first glance, the studio clearly believes he can pull it off.
03:41Stepping into Stallone's shoes is probably one of the hardest jobs any young actor could take right
03:47now. Rambo isn't just another action character, he's a cultural icon. Fans have spent over 40 years
03:54watching Stallone define the role, so comparisons are obviously unavoidable. But instead of copying
04:00Stallone's exact performance, Centineo seems to be approaching the role from a younger and more
04:05vulnerable angle, which actually makes sense for an origin story. One of the biggest reasons people are
04:11starting to feel optimistic about the project is the involvement of director Yalmari Hellander.
04:17If that name sounds familiar, it's because he directed the Sisu movies, which became surprise
04:23hits among action fans. Those films followed a nearly unstoppable protagonist fighting against
04:29overwhelming odds, so they already carried a lot of the same energy that made Rambo famous in the first
04:34place. The Sisu films balanced brutal action with emotional storytelling and dark humor,
04:40and that combination feels perfect for a Rambo prequel. Although the franchise is known for
04:46explosions and massive action scenes, the character only works when there's emotional depth underneath
04:52all the violence. Hellander seems to understand that balance really well. Lionsgate chairman Adam
04:58Fogelson recently spoke about the project during an interview with Business Insider, and his comments
05:04definitely got fans talking. According to him, the footage they've already shot has been extremely
05:10impressive. He explained that after spending years in the movie industry, it's actually rare for raw
05:16production footage to truly surprise him anymore. Usually, executives either think footage looks good
05:22or worry it's going badly. But in this case, he described the footage as electric. That's a pretty strong
05:29word to use this early in production, especially for someone who has likely seen thousands of hours of
05:34unfinished movie footage throughout his career. Fogelson also said the movie somehow feels both
05:40completely fresh and deeply respectful to everything Stallone originally created. That's exactly the
05:46balance fans were hoping for because nobody wants a Rambo movie that ignores the legacy of the earlier films.
05:53According to Fogelson, audiences will supposedly understand Rambo in a much deeper way after watching
05:59this prequel. The film aims to show how the experiences of war transformed him into the
06:05emotionally damaged veteran seen in First Blood. So, instead of simply making another action movie
06:10filled with gunfire and explosions, the filmmakers appear to be focusing heavily on character development
06:16too. Hellander himself also shared an emotional statement once production officially began in Thailand.
06:23He revealed that he first watched First Blood when he was only 11 years old, and the movie had such
06:29a
06:29huge impact on him that it actually influenced his decision to become a filmmaker. That kind of
06:35personal connection matters because it shows he genuinely respects the source material rather than just
06:40treating the project like another studio paycheck. In his statement, Hellander explained that this
06:46version of Rambo would feel raw, stripped down, and grounded. He described the movie as a survival story
06:52centered around endurance, persistence, and lost innocence. That description honestly sounds a lot
06:58closer to the tone of the original First Blood than some of the later sequels, which could be really
07:04exciting for longtime fans. Although audiences enjoy massive action scenes, the original movie became
07:10memorable largely due to its emotional realism. John Rambo wasn't portrayed as an invincible superhero in
07:17that film. He was damaged, exhausted, angry, and deeply traumatized by war. Bringing the franchise back
07:25toward that tone could actually make this prequel stand out from most modern action movies. The
07:31production itself is already looking pretty ambitious too. And that wraps up today's video.
