00:07I think all this questioning started with this picture that sparked quite a bit of a
00:10debate online about whether things were better back then with lots of colors.
00:14And it reminded me of that study on car colors, which showed that in reality, from the 1990s
00:19to today, cars have become less and less colorful, favoring shades of gray, black, and white.
00:24And the reason for this, well, it's the same for everything actually, is capitalism.
00:28So does that mean that capitalism wants to deprive us of colors?
00:32Sellers tend to favor products that sell easily and are as mainstream as possible.
00:36So to increase sales of a product, they'll start offering things in the most uniform and
00:40basic colors, which is why on the road you end up seeing this instead of this.
00:45And on top of that, what's in fashion today is minimalism and simplicity in a kind of sanitized
00:51way.
00:51You can see it in design, architecture, pantone color of the year, and even in cinema.
00:55You've probably heard of that 60-30-10 rule everywhere, where in every shot in a movie,
01:00you need 60% of one color, 30% of another, and 10% of a third one.
01:04That, plus the Netflix lighting that we associate with specific angles, camera work, and lighting,
01:09results in a cinema that's undoubtedly more mainstream, less flashy, and colorful.
01:14So does that mean that we're losing color in movies in favor of style, minimalism, and
01:18profit?
01:19Or the simple fact that people start questioning the lack of color in movies could mean a change
01:23or a shift in today's fashion to favor more and more colors, and maybe we're just in the
01:28beginning of that revolution.
01:30Or even maybe we're moving towards so much color minimalism in movies that we'll end up
01:34watching them in black and white.
01:35And then, well, we would have come full circle.
