00:04Smashing up an independent shop. These men were caught on camera breaking CCTV after they broke
00:11into Star Valley Game and Butchers moments before they stole thousands of pounds worth of meat.
00:16Punched it through, pulled it down, pulled it right here as well. And it emptied, came into this fridge,
00:27emptied everything out of it, through bleach all over here, all down here, all down there as well through bleach.
00:35So to give you a quick rundown of events, on that night at about 9pm the two men came from
00:40the back of the building
00:41and jumped over the fence where they went to the back of the Butchers. When they were there they
00:45spent three hours smashing a three foot wide hole into the building and then entered inside for about
00:5140 minutes where they stole thousands of pounds worth of meat and poured bleach all over the floor
00:56and the areas that they touched, as well as the produce that they didn't take.
01:00I think with what they've took, which runs into the thousands, it's the price of meat.
01:06Is it the cost of living crisis to sell it on? But whoever's done it must have had,
01:11because they've nicked a lot of stuff out of the freezer as well, it was obviously to sell on.
01:16I can't see it being for anybody's own consumption, the amount they took.
01:20So yeah, I just think it is the price of meat now. So it's high value products in the building.
01:27It's a quick hit, I suppose, isn't it?
01:30Some of the meat we had to throw away, lots of hundreds of stuff of meat we had to throw
01:35away.
01:36And then we had to spend about three hours trying to redo all the orders, 21 orders,
01:41all within three hours, two hours, just so they could go in time for the driver.
01:46For regular customers, the break-in has come as a shock.
01:49I think it's outrageous. I really do. I think it's really sad. It must have been so difficult for them.
01:54I mean, where I am in Greenwich, they're stealing meat all the time,
01:57and Waitrose and Marks and Spencers, and they go in there and they know that no one can really do
02:02anything.
02:03In a statement, Kemp Police said they received a report of theft from a business in Ashford Road,
02:08Chillum. It is alleged that at around 11.30pm on the 27th of May,
02:132026, a quantity of cash and produce was taken and criminal damage was caused to the shop.
02:20Inquiries into the circumstances are continuing and anyone with information should contact Kemp Police.
02:26The shop is now up to its security with the hope that what happened here will not happen again.
02:31But for this independent butcher, the break-in was not just a loss of stock,
02:36but a reminder of the pressure small businesses are facing.
