00:00Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is warning that AI development may be moving too fast
00:06and says the world should have the ability to slow down the most advanced systems if needed.
00:12The company which makes the Claude family of AI models
00:15says some of the latest technology is beginning to show signs it could operate with less human oversight.
00:23The company said AI is already helping to develop more advanced AI systems,
00:28raising concerns about how quickly the technology is evolving.
00:33Anthropic also warned that any pause in AI development would only work
00:37if major governments and technology companies acted together, particularly in the United States and China.
00:43But any attempt to slow development could face resistance,
00:47with many in Washington and Silicon Valley arguing that falling behind
00:52could give China an edge in the global AI race.
00:55Anthropic compared the challenge to nuclear arms control,
00:59but said AI development would be much harder to monitor and enforce.
01:04The San Francisco-based firm said it now wants governments,
01:07researchers and technology firms to discuss possible global safety standards.
