00:00This is, in case you don't know, the 79th anniversary of the Italian Republic
00:05and I am proud to be a new member of it.
00:11Just got citizenship as my beloved grandmother, Edith,
00:15whose family came from Candida and Mano Casati,
00:18used to say to me,
00:20Io il trevello di un criceto.
00:25I don't know what it means, but she says it to me all the time.
00:28And I was fortunate enough to meet our wonderful friends from the Italian consulate,
00:33Raffaella, Lorenzo, and Emanuello,
00:36who helped to make our dream of becoming Italian citizens come true.
00:40And I am very grateful to them and for inviting us here tonight.
00:44My grandfather's family is from Ischia.
00:47His name was Sal Iacono, Iacono.
00:50His parents were Vincenzo Iacono and Maria Lombardi.
00:54They moved to New York after an earthquake killed most of their family
00:58and devastated their town, Casa Mitula, in 1883.
01:02And now we have moved the whole family to a town
01:05that is constantly threatened by earthquakes.
01:09One thing about our family, we never learn our lessons.
01:13Our whole family went back to visit Ischia and Naples 10 years ago
01:19and it was a magical visit.
01:21We love Italy, we love Italian people,
01:24and now we are Italian people.
01:26We love Italy, we love Italy, we love Italy, we love Italy,
01:27and then we have
01:27Italian people, and cring aí
