00:00Even in this Thunderbolts, all the characters for being heroes or superheroes must pass through a big personal trauma.
00:11Being a superhero must be a traumatic experience.
00:16Well, I think certainly that's where we're finding all of these characters.
00:22Since the last time we've seen Yelena and Alexei, a lot has happened to them.
00:26A lot of trauma has happened to them and they're both struggling with understanding how to deal with it, how
00:32to process it, how to grieve.
00:35And it's so great and it's so important that we've been allowed to make this story in this way and
00:42we haven't been afraid of what the message is, which is depression, mental illness, the need to be there for
00:49people, the need to accept your past, the need to open up and ask for help.
00:54And that was something that I was just so excited to really wrestle when I got the script.
01:01It was not a place where I thought this movie was going to go and I was so impressed that
01:06Jake really, really fought for that.
01:08It's a huge deal to be in these movies.
01:11It's a huge deal that people trust us with these characters and it's not lost on me that we also
01:18have a responsibility to the fans that loved these characters before we ever stepped foot in them.
