00:00Buongiorno Bologna and the League of Socialist Municipalities.
00:03I want to express my sincere thanks to Mayor Matteo Lepore
00:07and my deepest appreciation for your visit to City Hall earlier this year.
00:10Thank you all very much for the Torita d'Ora Award.
00:13I'm honored to receive it and wish I could be there to accept it in person.
00:17For over a hundred years, the League of Socialist Municipalities
00:21has convened political leaders, journalists, policy experts and mayors
00:26to advance a shared progressive agenda.
00:28Projects like these are more important today than ever before.
00:32With authoritarianism rising around the world,
00:34we must be united in our shared goal of compassionate, competent
00:38and a proudly left-wing government.
00:40This award is especially meaningful coming from Bologna,
00:43which has a strong history of that very style of governance.
00:46From Francesco Zanardi, who created municipal grocery stores,
00:50to Giuseppe Doza, who pioneered public child care services,
00:53to Renato Zangheri, who made public transportation free.
00:56This sounds quite familiar to what we are trying to accomplish here in New York City.
01:00This history proves that bold socialist ideas are neither new nor impossible.
01:04We are merely building upon what has been accomplished elsewhere.
01:07But these are not merely lessons from the past.
01:09Your continued efforts to expand municipal progressivism
01:12into areas of housing, AI and climate change
01:15shows that we must never stop experimenting with new policies for the shared common good.
01:19Thank you for your vision and leadership.
01:22Thank you again for this award and the work that you do.
01:25I look forward to being in continued conversation with you all.
01:28Thank you.
01:29Thank you.
01:31Thank you.
