00:00This is the 10 o'clock news on KTVU Fox 2.
00:04Now at 10, breaking news in Fairfield.
00:07Gunfire erupts at a graduation ceremony.
00:09One person is dead.
00:11Three others are in the hospital.
00:12And an active manhunt is underway for the shooter.
00:16Police confirming those details to us at a news conference within the past hour.
00:20Good evening, I'm Claudine Wong.
00:22And I'm Christina Rendon.
00:23It happened as Sem Yeddo High School was holding its graduation ceremony on the Fairfield High Campus.
00:28Let's get right to KTVU's Amber Lee, who is live in Fairfield tonight.
00:32And Amber, what can you tell us?
00:35Claudine and Christina, it's been three hours since the shooting and it is still a very active scene.
00:41I'm going to step aside and show you what it looks like out here.
00:43You see the heavy police presence out here.
00:46They tell us they're actively looking for whoever's responsible for the shooting.
00:50It happened in the parking lot of Fairfield High School around 7.15 tonight.
00:55It was towards the end of a graduation ceremony held here at the school's football stadium.
01:00It was the graduation of Sam Yeddo Continuation School.
01:05And I've been told four people were shot.
01:08One has died.
01:09One woman who identified herself as a former student rushed down here when she heard about the shooting.
01:15Kind of traumatized for the people, everyone here that had to witness it.
01:19It's outrageous, really.
01:21It's sad.
01:23Prayers for everyone that had been affected by it.
01:26And I'm just so sorry that y'all had to go through that.
01:31I don't know what happened.
01:33What did you see?
01:35The people is coming out.
01:38Coming out.
01:40It's running.
01:41I don't know what happened.
01:43I mean, you heard the shots.
01:44What was your reaction?
01:47Run.
01:48Yeah, run, run.
01:50And I don't know what happened.
01:51I mean, I told, I see my niece, my mom, and she say, run, run.
02:00This is a super active scene right now.
02:02We still have our officers out there speaking with witnesses, trying to determine exactly what happened
02:07and following upon any suspect leads we have.
02:10I mean, obviously, it's a very scary incident when something like this does happen,
02:13especially during the end of a school event.
02:16So, obviously, we just want everyone to be safe out in the community.
02:21You're looking at a live picture of the crime scene.
02:24Police have not yet released any information for any of the victims.
02:28They also have not released any suspect description or vehicle or how many people they're looking for.
02:33We are supposed to get an update from Fairfield Police in about an hour.
02:38Christina, Claudine.
02:39Yeah, that's what I was going to ask about the victims, whether or not we know if any students had
02:43been shot
02:44or the identity of the victim who has died.
02:48I was able to reach the Fairfield Unified School District spokesperson.
02:52She says she has no information to release at this point.
02:56Now, and how big of an area is blocked off?
02:59I mean, I would assume the timing of this shooting happening after what appears to be the graduation started around
03:066 o'clock
03:07and then usually we assume they last about an hour or so.
03:10I don't know how many people were in and around the area when this all happened
03:13and how many people are still in that area now.
03:16Can you tell us and give us an idea of the area that is taped off
03:20and really how hard it is to get in and around there?
03:24I was able to talk to some of the witnesses.
03:27They said there were about 500 to 600 people inside the football stadium.
03:31There was panic.
03:32There was chaos.
03:33People were scared.
03:34Somebody told me they heard three shots fired in the parking lot
03:37and the area that's shut off is the streets surrounding the school.
03:42Now, the football stadium is towards the back of the school,
03:44so I'm sure that I haven't been back there yet,
03:47but I'm sure those streets are closed off at this point.
03:50We still saw people or police officers searching the area just shortly before we got on air,
03:56so it is a very active scene.
03:59So no one in custody in Amber right now,
04:01they're not trying to tell people to shelter in place,
04:03or is there any danger to the community in that area?
04:07They didn't ask anyone to shelter in place,
04:10but I don't see many people here anymore other than the police.
04:13We saw some people leaving and going to the parking lot, but that's it.
04:18I mean, we don't see anybody hanging around.
04:20Just terrible for this to happen on a night where it's supposed to be so memorable
04:23for families who are marking a milestone.
04:25You can imagine how difficult it is for so many people,
04:28even people who were calling or newsroom calling.
04:29You said people calling and expressing how upset they were by this.
04:34All right, we'll stand by for that next update from police,
04:37but certainly a very active situation,
04:39and Amber, we'll let you continue to gather more information,
04:41and you'll keep us updated as information comes in.
04:44Thanks so much, Amber.
