One person has been killed and more than 60 injured in strikes on Kuwait's international airport.

Kuwait's defence ministry spokesman blamed Iran, saying drones had attacked the airport, and called it "criminal Iranian aggression".

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) denied responsibility for the attacks, claiming the damage was caused by an error from a US missile interceptor.

US Central Command said this was false and also accused Iran in targeting the airport in what it called a "deliberate, calculated and unjustified attack".

The IRGC said it had targeted US bases in the Gulf in retaliation for US strikes on an Iranian oil tanker and Qeshm Island.

The US said it had launched "self-defence" strikes on Iran, and shot down or intercepted Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain.

00:00One person has died and more than 60 others were injured after the U.S. said Iranian drones
00:06hit Kuwait's international airport. Iran's Revolutionary Guards say they launched attacks
00:11in retaliation for U.S. strikes, but denied targeting the airport. Yesterday, American
00:16forces struck and disabled a cargo ship, which they say was heading towards Iran, in violation
00:22of a U.S. blockade. Well, this latest escalation is once again testing a ceasefire that's just
00:28about holding. Caroline Hawley has more details.
00:33The U.S. administration says the war's over. It didn't feel like that at Kuwait International
00:38Airport. Destruction at a passenger terminal, one Indian national dead, and dozens of injuries.
00:46And flights had only just resumed from here this week. All of this collateral for the latest
00:52military tit-for-tat between the U.S. and Iran, one of the most serious flare-ups since April
00:57when a ceasefire was announced. The U.N. has expressed alarm, calling for restraint on
01:02all sides. Footage released by Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards show missiles and drones
01:11being launched. The IRGC said it was firing at a U.S. air base in Kuwait, as well as a
01:17naval
01:17base in Bahrain, although the Americans say they weren't hit.
01:21The U.S. military put out its own images of what Iran says triggered the attack. They show
01:26the moment a hellfire missile hit the engine room of a ship, which it accused of heading
01:31for the Iranian coast, trying to break the American blockade. All of this as indirect
01:36talks to end the conflict's stall.
01:38I still think Trump and the Iranians, while not being able to quickly get to a deal, also
01:48don't want to snap back to a full-scale war. So we remain in the no-war, no-peace phase
01:57of
01:58this conflict.
02:00Donald Trump has now suggested he'd like to meet the new Supreme Leader, Mujtaba Khamenei,
02:05and is again talking up the prospects of an agreement.
02:09The negotiation itself has gone very well, actually. Very well.
02:13Mr President, it could happen. I mean, if it happens, and it might not happen, yeah, who
02:17knows. But if it happens, it could happen, like, over the weekend.
02:20But behind this picturesque scene filmed from Oman, tankers and container ships have now been
02:26trapped in the Strait of Hormuz for more than three months. And there's no indication from
02:31Iran of any breakthrough to end a stalemate taking a toll on economies around the world.
