00:26He was just 18 years old.
00:28A first-year university student with dreams of building a career in finance, a son, a
00:35friend, and a teenager beginning a new chapter of his life hundreds of miles from home.
00:40But on a cold December night in Southampton, Henry Nowak's future was stolen forever.
00:47So who was Henry Nowak?
00:50Henry Nowak was an 18-year-old British-Polish student from Chafford 100 in Essex.
00:56Friends and family remember him as a young man full of ambition and excitement about
01:01the future.
01:02After successfully finishing school, Henry enrolled at the University of Southampton, where he
01:08began studying accountancy and finance.
01:10Like thousands of students across Britain, he had recently moved away from home to start
01:15university life.
01:16By December 2025, Henry had just completed his first term and was looking forward to the
01:23future. But everything changed on the night of December 3.
01:27Shortly before 11.30 p.m., Henry was walking back to his student accommodation after a night
01:34out in Southampton's Portswood area.
01:36According to prosecutors, a chance encounter on Belmont Road turned deadly.
01:42Henry and 23-year-old Vikram Digwa brushed past each other on the pavement.
01:47What should have been a brief interaction escalated into a violent confrontation.
01:53Moments later, Henry had been stabbed multiple times.
01:57Despite suffering devastating injuries, he desperately tried to escape.
02:02The court heard he climbed over a fence in an attempt to get away before eventually collapsing.
02:08Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the teenager could not be saved.
02:13The tragedy shocked not only Southampton, but communities across Britain.
02:19During the trial, Digwa claimed he acted in self-defense and alleged that Henry had been
02:24aggressive. But after examining the evidence, the jury rejected those claims.
02:29Digwa was found guilty of murder and possessing a knife in public.
02:34A judge later sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.
02:39The court also heard that Digwa's mother, Kieran Kaur, removed the murder weapon from the scene
02:46after the attack. She was later convicted of assisting an offender.
02:50But for Henry's loved ones, the convictions cannot undo the loss.
02:55An 18-year-old student who had just begun building his future never got the chance to finish his
03:01education, start a career, or fulfill his ambitions.
03:04Henry Nowak arrived in Southampton as a teenager, chasing opportunities and dreams.
03:11Today, he's remembered not for the way he died, but for the life he never got the chance to live.
03:17A promising student, a beloved son, and a future that ended far too soon.
