Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is under pressure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as travellers continue to complain about confusing navigation, traffic congestion, and difficult airport access.

With nearly 95,000 vehicles passing through LAX every day, the airport's famous horseshoe-shaped terminal loop has become a major bottleneck. Passengers arriving from around the world describe the experience as frustrating, with some saying they were left confused about where to go and how to reach their destinations.

Experts warn that transportation challenges could become even more visible during the FIFA World Cup, when thousands of international visitors are expected to arrive in Los Angeles. While the new People Mover train aims to improve connectivity, concerns remain over public transit access and airport infrastructure.

Watch this report to see why LAX is drawing criticism ahead of one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

01:01A lot of time, I'm still lost.
01:04Yeah, yeah, so, and I'm American and I live, I live, you know, so this is really annoying,
01:09you know, yeah.
01:11Do your, do your research like me, but even after my research, I'm still struggling, so,
01:17I don't know, just do more research, really.
01:20Yeah, yeah.
01:22The first time it was really hell for me, because I saw people standing out there, I stood there
01:28for hours, nobody was ready to tell me what to do, it was really tough for me, and then
01:33that...
01:44I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know,
01:53I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't
01:54know,
01:54I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know,
02:02I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know,
02:04I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't
02:04know,
02:06So it is popular, but that's why I say people love to hate it because they have to go there
02:11because it's the way to get all these places so conveniently, but getting to and from it
02:16and working your way through it and the way that it is designed make it incredibly frustrating
02:20from a customer's perspective.
02:23In the metropolitan area, all those people who are trying to get to the airport have
02:27to come through that same entrance, even if they're going to Terminal 7, they're still
02:30coming in here.
02:31There's a couple of crossover routes, but even any of these terminals, they all have
02:35to go through.
02:36So that's wedging a lot of people into a very small space.
02:38This is the horseshoe of LAX and this is the train.
02:43These are stations for the people mover, right?
02:45So to get to the train from any of these terminals, you go on one of these pedestrian walkways,
02:50get on the people mover and it'll take you out of the horseshoe.
02:53I mean, the people mover at LAX is a really critical project from an infrastructure perspective,
02:59whether there's the World Cup or the Olympics or nothing.
03:03It's an important piece of the future of infrastructure to make this airport function and it has not
03:09received the kind of attention that it really deserves in terms of urgency from elected leaders.
03:16You have to have good mass transit connections to that people mover if you want people
03:20to use mass transit.
03:22Right now, the metro rail station that is operating there is not going to be very useful to most
03:28people arriving from other countries for the World Cup or just in general, people arriving
03:33at LAX because that metro station does not actually take you to downtown Los Angeles.
03:38If you get on that train, you have to transfer at least once to get to downtown LA.
03:41It's not a very easy transfer.
