00:45What was it that made you realize that, hey, this is something special for me?
00:50The worlds are so colorful, and there is a mixture of magic and swords and sorcery and
00:57science fiction.
00:58What's not to love about it?
01:00Anything goes in MOTU.
01:02I need every man, woman, or whatever that is.
01:07There's a character for everybody in this property, and there's just really everything.
01:12Ninjas, buff sword swashbuckling dudes.
01:16There's techno cowboys with lasers that come out of their calves.
01:21There's so much, again, I think it's sort of like diversity across the board.
01:27So let's talk about what aspects of the franchise has always resonated with you.
01:33It's all about being good and doing the right thing, but in an exciting way.
01:39This is my home.
01:41I'm going to fight for you.
01:44But I can't do it without you.
01:46I think there is just something about, you know, it's a castle, and you've got swords,
01:49and you've got laser guns.
01:50And there's just, you can get into it and explore this world even if you have no context
01:55to the mythology.
01:56This obsession with nerd stuff and sword things, it's not a good look for human resources.
02:05All that stuff that only exists in legends and bedtime stories.
02:10Talking tigers, spaceships, and magic swords that can make a man as mighty as a god.
02:19Where I come from, that stuff is real.
02:24You had a cool opportunity that not a lot of people had, and I'm a little jealous.
02:29Okay, tell us the opportunity that you had, and we'll get into some of the reactions.
02:32Holy cow.
02:33Yeah, this is, I'm still kind of shocked that this opportunity came up.
02:37I was invited to fly over to London and visit the set of Masters of the Universe.
02:43It's been almost a year, and I still can't believe I was there.
02:47I'm very fortunate to get invited along with some fellow creators to go on set while they're
02:55filming the movie.
02:56Getting to see scenes being filmed, get to hold the props, get to talk to the creators
03:01behind the movie like Travis and so many others, and get to touch and feel the costumes.
03:09I think they said they only have like one power sword and like, here, you can hold this.
03:13I'm like, I don't think I'm worthy.
03:15Just being a fan of movies and getting to experience something like that is something I'll hold with me for
03:22the rest of my life.
03:22It was incredible.
03:23I just couldn't believe what I was seeing.
03:25It was like so much more beyond what I was expecting to see from this movie.
03:30We've got this big movie, you've maybe had some images of what it could be, but now you're there.
03:35What's going through your head?
03:36I think all of us that kind of walk in are like, just that sigh of relief like, oh my
03:40God, you're actually doing a He-Man movie.
03:44And just seeing the costume like, oh my God, that's on the toy.
03:47You brought that from the toy onto the thing that's in this movie.
03:50Stepping right off the set, like, I got to meet and talk to so many of the actors in costume.
03:55Like, I hung out with Mechanec, Fisto, and Grandman.
03:59Just because they were in their full gear and talking to them.
04:03But I really think the moment had to have been walking into Castle Grayskull.
04:07So we're kind of walking around and taking it all in.
04:10And then at some point someone's like, hey, so do you want to like, you know, hold the power sword
04:15and like do the eye of the power, you know?
04:17And I think Oliver's like, wait, for real?
04:21Really?
04:22And so like, yeah, we have a personal photographer here.
04:24We're going to like, you could do it, say it and just like have this moment.
04:27And it was such a surreal experience because here it is.
04:31I think they only had one actual true prop power.
04:34So they had like kind of a soft one, but like the real metal thing.
04:38And they literally had to like take it because they were filming.
04:41So they went and grabbed it from the film, brought it in, set it up there.
04:44And we get to hold it aloft and do the eye of the power in Castle Grayskull.
04:50Even though I was stuck light years away on Earth.
04:56I never stopped trying to get back home.
05:01So what has you most excited about this new movie?
05:05For me specifically, because the trailer, I was shocked that the first trailer did it, but we've seen it a
05:11couple of times now.
05:12That transformation sequence, seeing Prince Adam actually hold the sword up and turn into He-Man, which is something we
05:19haven't really had.
05:20We haven't had in a live action movie, right? Dolph was already He-Man in the 87 movie.
05:25And there's just something about that moment that still, as a 44 year old man, gets me like right here.
05:35You know, the I have the power with the transformation is just like, that's it. That's He-Man.
05:42I have the power!
05:48Just that classic good versus evil. It's there. I mean, it's so simple. That's all you need.
05:56We want to see He-Man fight Skeletor.
05:59And it looks like that's exactly what we're getting.
06:01The universe shall quake in my shadow.
06:05I think just seeing it all put together, you know, like being on set, seeing scenes being filmed and looking
06:11at what that process is like and just seeing all the craft that went into it from the smallest minute
06:16detail in the background that you probably never see to the actors to Travis, the director.
06:22Like there's just seeing the scope of what it takes to make a movie, which is it's a to me,
06:27it's always a little miracle every time even any good or bad movie gets put out there. It's a miracle.
06:32What's the emotion that you hope to leave that screening with?
06:36My hope is that I leave with, you know, some happy tears in my eyes and just a heart full
06:42of excitement for, for the whole world to experience this thing that I've loved.
06:49I think just hopefully just like feeling energized, you know, that's a movie like that. I think that's, that's what
06:55I'm looking for, you know?
06:57Hang on. It's about to get weird.
07:09What character do you think would be best in a real fight?
07:12It's gotta be He-Man. Come on. He-Man's gotta be the best for a fight.
07:17I would go, I'd go Duncan man at arms, especially like the Idris Elba version. If it's like a real
07:23life, like I'm tapping in Duncan.
07:25If you could wield any of the weapons, which one are you choosing?
07:29Part of me wants to say the Havoc Staff because I've always loved Skeletor's Havoc Staff. It's so cool.
07:35But I mean like if you're giving me the choice to wield a weapon, how could I not choose the
07:39Sword of Power?
07:40So, Sword of Power it is.
07:42I would go Trap Jaws arm. He can turn it into like a laser gun, a hook, a sword. I
07:49feel like it gives you the most options. I want options and Trap Jaws got them. So I want, I
07:52want Trap Jaws arm.
07:52What's the most underrated character in this franchise?
07:56Mosquitor. I love Mosquitor. He's a, he's a weird one that was in the original toy line who never appeared
08:03in the original cartoon. Probably won't be in a movie, but I love that figure.
08:09I'm going to go against Zodak. Zodak with a K or even the original Zodak.
08:13Hands down. What was the best He-Man action figure?
08:17He-Man is not only the best figure in that toy line, but potentially one of the best action figures
08:23of all time.
08:24I would say the Masters of the Universe classic He-Man. The classics line is incredible. I actually have a
08:30beast man here, but just like the level of detail these things had is so incredible.
08:35Sir, you can't do that.
08:37Don't worry. The sword's mine.
08:39I'm just so happy that we're at this moment where it's mainstream again.
08:45And I'm just seeing everybody talking about it. People seem genuinely excited about it. And that makes me very happy
08:53to see.
08:54And I just want nothing more than for this brand to outlive me and all of us original fans and
09:01go on to have continued life with a bunch of new fans.
09:05You may have good power, but you're too scared to use it.
09:13Trust me. I know how to use it.
