00:00Today, Minister, I am here to share your grief, to share your pain, and to stress the European Union's solidarity
00:08with the Israeli people.
00:10Certainly nothing justifies what the terrorists from Hamas did here and in other places on the 7th of October.
00:19Nothing justifies abducting women, children, and elderly people from their homes and taking them hostages into Gaza.
00:27In the name of the European Union, I ask for their immediate and unconditional release.
00:34You know, Minister, that the European Union has condemned the action of Hamas in the strongest possible terms,
00:41and that we support uniquivocally the Israel's right to defend itself in line with international law and with international humanitarian
00:52law.
00:52We will not be able to bring life to death, but we can give freedom to the hostages.
01:00Hamas has to be defeated, but Hamas doesn't represent the Palestinian people.
01:04Not far from here is Gaza, and one other don't justify another.
01:11Innocent civilians, including thousands of children, have died in the past weeks.
01:17We know that people are also forced to leave their houses and need assistance.
01:23They need food, water, fuel, and protection.
01:26Israel has to be defended.
01:29And today, even today, another terrorist attack has happened in Israel.
01:34So it's an everyday fight.
01:37But one thing is to defend Israel, and another thing is to take care of the people in need.
01:44And that's why the European Union, together with supporting the right to defend Israel,
01:49is also asking for humanitarian assistance for food, water, fuel, and protection.
01:54Minister, allow me to say something that comes not from this piece of paper, but from the bottom of my
02:01heart.
02:01I understand your fears and pain.
02:03I understand the fears and pain of the people that have been attacked, slaughtered, kidnapped.
02:09I understand your rage.
02:11But let me ask you not to be consumed by rage.
02:14I think that that's what the best friend of Israel can tell you.
02:19Because what makes the difference between a civilized society and a terrorist group
02:26is the respect for human life.
02:28And all human lives have the same value.
