There is growing concern among JDS leaders that if D.K. Shivakumar becomes the Chief Minister, it could deal a direct blow to the party's vote bank. The reason is that both D.K. Shivakumar and H.D. Kumaraswamy are influential leaders from the same community. Political calculations suggest that if DK Shivakumar assumes the Chief Minister's post, a significant section of the Vokkaliga votes in the Old Mysuru region could shift entirely towards the Congress. This is the real issue creating anxiety among leaders of the regional party behind the scenes.
