00:26Traders have taken to the streets to protest the eviction of hawkers in North 24 Pargana railway station area.
00:34My colleague Tapas Sen Gupta is now joining us with more details on this.
00:37Tapas, give us more details. What are the demands of these protesters and why exactly are they protesting?
00:44There have been statewide action against the illegal vendors and hawkers across the state of West Bengal,
00:52be it on Common Road or on railway stations.
00:56Now, we have seen the massive eviction drive was undertaken in Shialda, Havra and also in Damdam railway station.
01:03Now, following an eviction notice in Gobur Danga today in North 24 Pargana,
01:08the hawkers and the family members came in large number.
01:11They slept on the railway track and they are demanding a rehabilitation package from the state government
01:18or a place which the government can identify where they can continue with their business,
01:25if not on the railway station, because they have been carrying out with their businesses over decades now
01:30in Gobur Danga railway station.
01:32But all of a sudden, this kind of eviction notice will definitely hit their livelihood.
01:36And that's why there have been thousands of people who have been affected due to this eviction drive.
01:42But the government maintains the stand that proper notices were served to them.
01:46But since they did not move, henceforth, the eviction drive was undertaken day before yesterday.
01:51We had seen in Damdam, but now in Gobur Danga, out of apprehension,
01:55now a large number of hawkers have come up on the railway track and protesting.
01:59However, they have been removed by the RPF and the railway services have resumed now.
02:03Now, it remains to be seen what the government officials and the railway officials
02:07have discussed with the hawkers and find out an amicable solution.
02:11Back to you.
02:12Stay with us.
02:13So, the protesters are now laying on the tracks.
