00:00Hello and welcome to another episode of Darth Maul Shadow Lords Up and Downs and this is for
00:07episode 5. Absolutely brilliant episode, a bit slower than some of the others but still a
00:13brilliant episode. So let's get started and see what our ups and downs are for this episode.
00:18So our first up goes straight to the music and a nice little kind of remix of Maul music plus
00:24some Imperial March. I thought that was a really cool addition and a nice way of kind of tying in
00:30the Star Wars of old with some of the Star Wars of new. And I'm sorry I'm going to give
00:34another up
00:35for the artwork. The Stormtroopers look really really good. It exaggerates their look on the
00:41background with the kind of painted backdrop with the 3D animation effects of the Stormtroopers.
00:47I thought that was really cool so it's getting an up from me. Next we have Daki showing why he
00:52is the Jedi Master. He's absolutely brilliant. He is very seasoned. He knows what he's talking about.
00:59It's a shame that he's a new character and we couldn't have seen him in previous works.
01:03But yep he's getting up. Some real wise words given to Devon about their current situation.
01:08I am really worried about the fate of Daki. Someone this smart and powerful never usually lasts very
01:16long in a Star Wars show. And I'm giving this an up because I've already seen the episode. I just
01:21thought this little quip from the lieutenant saying that at least we weren't harboring Jedis
01:25was just a little funny throwaway line for those that have watched it a second time knowing what's
01:31going to happen at the end of the episode. It made me chuckle re-watching this episode. So yeah
01:36there's an up. And I'm going to give an up even though I hate the Empire. I've got to give
01:41an up for
01:42the sass in the finger click. This guy is taking no prisoners but it doesn't mean he can't be mean
01:50and sassy in the process. And you know what love am I hating? The Empire is efficient. They know how
01:58to lock down a city and search for someone. They are doing their job. We hate them. They're the baddies
02:05but they can do a job. So you know what? An up for effective job management. And we're giving up
02:11the
02:11Spybot. I feel like I give Spybot an up every time he appears on screen. But you know what? For
02:16the
02:16shiny impies reference talking about how these are brand new clone troopers. Reference to some previous
02:22animations. But yeah Spybot's getting it up for just the shiny impies line. It's really funny. And we're
02:28giving it up to Vero for his master manipulation. He's survived. I didn't think he was going to last
02:33this long. I am shocked. Confronting Maul. Not scared to speak out to Maul. And also Maul knowing
02:40that he still will be useful. But tell him to go off and face the Empire himself. And the fact
02:46that he
02:46is still alive really shows that Maul may use him. But he doesn't expect him to last long with the
02:53Empire around. But credit to Vero. He's going strong. He's still fighting for himself. It'd be interesting
03:00to see where he goes later in the season. Or was this it for him? I honestly don't know.
03:05And we're going to give it up to Rook. She does not put up with any rubbish. They respect her.
03:10They
03:10may not agree with her. But they will do what she says. She's a really strong independent character.
03:16And she's shown why Maul treats her as his next in command. And it's not someone you should mess
03:22with. She's really stepping up this episode I feel. And this is just a personal down. Not necessarily
03:27slight on the episode. But Two Boots really letting us down. Like he's meant to be a smart
03:33logical robot. And he's got no clue what is going on. Thinking the Empire is great. I know
03:40it's built in his protocols. But you would think he would know better. And would listen
03:45to Lawson on what is happening. But Two Boots are just... Why? Smarten up. And again I feel
03:53this is going to be a redemption arc where he realises things aren't going what he expected.
03:57And he's going to sacrifice himself. God I can't even talk. I'm that excited. Sacrifice
04:03himself about protecting Lawson and getting that redemption that he needs. I'm going to
04:08give an up to the Empire again. Showing why they should be feared. Those scratch marks
04:14on the table are terrifying. The screams. The torture. Who did it? I'm sure we'll find
04:21out very soon. But when Lawson's looking down to see that. His justification of why he ate
04:27the Empire is fully there. Horrible. Horrible Empire. But amazing to watch on screen. And I think
04:35I said this in a previous video. We are seeing why the Empire is feared in this. And I absolutely
04:41love this story. And seeing this really dark side of the Empire. And why people were so scared
04:47of them. And our next up is the introduction of our Inquisitor. Marok. Very, very scary
04:53introduction. Walking in from the shadows. Very intimidating. And again leading to what I was
04:58saying before. The fear of the Empire. But these Inquisitors now coming into play. And them not
05:04knowing what an Inquisitor is as well. Lawson won't know who this is. But yeah. Terrifying
05:10stuff. And a great introduction to this Inquisitor. That some people who've not seen some of the previous
05:15animations or Ahsoka might not know who he is. I'm only giving up to Daki once again. Showing
05:22that he is wise. One with the Force. And knows that Devon is starting to lean towards Maul. Not
05:29necessarily the dark side. But starting to kind of have those doubts. Have those fears on what they
05:36need to do about the Empire. And I feel like Devon's also a little bit justified. She should be scared
05:41of the Empire. They are coming for Maul. But if they find out there's Jedi there. Well it also puts
05:48them in danger. Now I am going to give them a down in this situation as well. Simply because you
05:54know
05:54the Empire are walking around and they are hunting you. Yet you're taking the time to have a conversation
06:00in full view. There's a time and a place guys. Get safe. Get hidden. But no. Let's have a full
06:07conversation and dialogue when literally stormtroopers are right next to them. These are
06:12meant to be smart people. And I'm going to give it down to Two Boots again. He's let me down.
06:16Why Two
06:17Boots? He's getting interrogated and he doesn't see that as a bad thing. Not questioned. Not interviewed.
06:25But interrogated. And he doesn't have a problem with his best friend, his partner, being interrogated by
06:32the Empire. And he just kind of rubs it off your shoulder. Doesn't care. Why Two Boots? This is your
06:37friend. Your partner. But we are going to give an up to Riley. He's really stepping up. Showing
06:43he is Lawson's blood. And I know at the very start of the season Riley had that whole teenager and
06:50really showing his emotions and upset. But he'll still stand by his dad and he will still fight for
06:56his dad. But nice one Riley. Standing up to the Empire. I like him. And I'm going to give an
07:01up for
07:01the Force Persuasion. It's nice to see this getting used effectively. And just it's a nice
07:06throwback to the original In New Hope as well. I know lots of them use it in other things. But
07:11every time I see it, it always brings that nostalgia back to Obi-Wan. These are not the droids you
07:16are
07:16looking for. It's kind of like we are not the Jedi you are looking for. And I really like that.
07:21And I
07:21always feel like that's a nice little nostalgic nod. So it's getting up from me. And you know what?
07:26I'm going to give Devon an up as well. He's really stepping up. Showing the Padawan
07:30in the ability that she has taken on these stormtroopers. She's showing her own against
07:38Daki, which is great. He's trained her really well. She's not fearful of these stormtroopers.
07:44And she is wanting to escape. And she's willing to step out of line to do that. And I'm really
07:51enjoying Devon as a character. I feel like from what was on episode one to where we are now in
07:56episode
07:56five. She's really come together as a character. And she's an interesting character to now watch.
08:01And shown she has the ability. And that's why Maul is so interested in her. He can see the potential.
08:08And we are now starting to see the potential of Devon as a Jedi, a Sith, or something in between.
08:15I feel sorry for Riley. His mom is very Empire focused. He's reaching out.
08:20They're saying, look, my dad is in trouble. Can you help? And she doesn't step up. So she's getting
08:27it down. Bad mom. How dare she not help her son? She knows or must know what the Empire is
08:33like.
08:34Or has she been persuaded into thinking the Empire is all good and doesn't see the dark side of it?
08:40Get that pun there. But yeah, the mom's let the son down. So she's getting it down.
08:45Not necessarily down on the episode, but she's getting it down for Ruin it for Riley. Bad mom.
08:51And we're getting it up for seeing Marok and using Force Echoes. It's a very rare skill we see.
08:58Cal Kestis used it greatly in the games, but it's nice to see it coming more into the TV shows.
09:04And I thought this is a really cool introduction for those that might not know what Force Echoes are.
09:08But does that mean Marok knows about Daki and Devon as well?
09:12Let's see what happens towards the end of next episode. But yes, is he aware there are now Jedi
09:17around? Does he know of Lawson? Does that play into the fact of what happens in the next episode,
09:23which we'll talk about very, very soon in a future video?
09:26And we're going to give another up to Rook, who's really been on it this episode,
09:30really stepping up, showing Maul why she is a valuable asset. We haven't really seen her much in
09:36previous episodes. But in this one, she's really shown how intelligent she is, her planning,
09:41and the fact that she is constantly being aware of her surroundings and what is happening on the
09:46planet. And we're going to give an up to Lawson and his calf addiction. This man will go anywhere
09:52he can with his calf. You'd think he's taking a cup off his desk and driving with it. This guy
09:59likes to be caffeinated. And with everything going on, I can totally understand it. And our final up
10:05goes to Riley and Lawson, showing why they are good people. And Riley showing why he is Lawson's
10:11son. They are willing to step up for what they know is right and bringing in some Jedi fugitives.
10:17Nice little reference to the start of the episode, pre-shadowing what was happening.
10:21But yeah, brilliant up, brilliant episode. A bit slower than the rest, but still really enjoyable.
10:29I hope you guys enjoyed it. Let me know what you thought about episode five of Maul Shadowlord.
