The tiny island of Bermuda. A paradise on earth. Plagued by a deadly, unspoken epidemic on its roads.
Transcript
00:03Something has happened over and over again in Bermuda.
00:09Bermudians are raised up with this superman syndrome of that you ain't nothing if you can't drink the nightclub and
00:18then ride home afterwards.
00:29This is what a road crash fatality looks like in Bermuda.
00:37The two major factors that we felt were causative in terms of road traffic crashes were speed and alcohol.
00:45I just had a lot of space out because my son, that's my son's carny and I asked him, like,
00:50I need to get to the hospital.
00:55Most night shifts we get quite a few road traffic accidents varying from broken legs to death.
01:02But we realized that underlying the deaths was a huge number of injuries.
01:12We have sufficient deterrent on the books.
01:17Younger folks, they don't realize how drunk they get until it's too late, you know what I mean?
01:23I lost a friend who wasn't even drinking, he was just driving home and it was late.
01:27So it's not just about drinking, it's just about overall road safety that needs to be better.
01:35How do you change culture? How do you change something that's been acceptable for so long to so many?
