00:07the Living Heritage Center stands as a unique manuscript library
00:12dedicated to preserving India's timeless wisdom.
00:17Here, ancient manuscripts and rare texts are lovingly concerned,
00:23offering scholars and visitors a living window into our cultural and intellectual heritage.
00:33Proudly curated by NITC, National Institute of Technology, Calicut, for future generations.
00:44At the foothills of the Western Ghats stands the National Institute of Technology, Calicut,
00:51one of the 31 institutions of national importance in India.
00:55The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems at NITC, Calicut, was established in 2022
01:02by the Honourable Director, Professor Prasad Krishna,
01:06in alignment with the National Education Policy.
01:09Its purpose is to promote education, training and research in Indian knowledge systems.
01:17Kerala's living traditions in art, science, mathematics, Ayurveda, yoga and astronomy
01:24are vanishing from its everyday life.
01:27The proposed Living Heritage Centre will preserve and celebrate this knowledge
01:33through learning, demonstration and community participation.
01:37Designed in the traditional Naligata style, the Centre itself is a living example of Indigenous
01:45Sustainable Architecture.
01:48The building in itself will be a demonstration of how Indigenous knowledge can inform Sustainable
01:55Development Goals.
01:58Each wing of the quadrangle embodies a stream of knowledge, Ayurveda and Manuscriptology in
02:05the north, yoga and meditation in the west, mathematics and astronomy in the east and performing arts
02:12in the south, around a sunlit courtyard that functions as an informal space for teaching or workshops.
02:20The Nadumittam walls are adorned with Kerala's unique mural paintings.
02:25With an estimated cost of Rs. 9.5 crores, the Living Heritage Centre will stand as a demonstrative
02:34model of Kerala's Indigenous architecture, a space to preserve, educate and inspire future generations.
