18:26Then Marc Marquez, of course, destroyed them all
18:28with the pole and the double last season.
18:32Фабио Диан-Antoni, we're riding on board with him.
18:34Through Бион Дети, 1-2, up towards Pacino, final corner.
18:38I spoke to Fabio, this is going to be a good lap, this.
18:41We're talking about him last night,
18:42and it's his little finger that he broke,
18:45that we saw, and he kept the glove on in Barcelona.
18:48He said, the line was,
18:50I never knew a broken little finger could be so annoying.
18:53Annoying was the way he said it, it's just...
18:56And he showed me, he said, look, I can't bend it.
18:58I can't bend it, so I'm holding the bar.
19:02I can't bend it, but that means I can't bend my third finger
19:05as well at the same time, which means I'm not holding
19:07onto the bike properly, which means I'm overcompensating
19:10with my arms, with my shoulders and my legs.
19:13And he said, I think I'm going to struggle.
19:16That's what Fabio Диан-Antoni was saying,
19:18because he can't physically bend it.
19:20You'll be right, that's how you drink your tea, don't you?
19:22Yeah, with my lap and go out, with my gin and tonic.
19:24Thank you, Silva.
19:26It doesn't help.
19:27Fabio D'Antoni this weekend, though, in the sector 3,
19:29he's always making a big difference there,
19:32and that's going to be so important for the race.
19:34We saw him through turn 13 and 14,
19:36that vast chicane left and right.
19:39He was able to keep the gas open there,
19:41carry a lot of speed on the kerbs,
19:44and, yeah, make the difference there.
19:46So Fabio D'Antoni, for me, this weekend, he's the man to beat.
19:48He's got such form on the Ducati since the start of the year.
19:51He's Ducati's top man, just come out of Barcelona
19:54with a win under him despite the injury
19:57and looking very confident as well in his interviews
20:01and, you know, the way he feels about the bike
20:03and his team around him.
20:04It just looks like everything is clicking for Fabio D'Antoni this year.
20:08What we see in those pictures that you and Neil were looking at
20:10in the break there were,
20:12Mark didn't quite have the physical capability to force it in at Arabeata,
20:16and that is the start of the Sector 3
20:18all the way through to the Biondetti chicane
20:20or the exit of the Biondetti.
20:22That's maybe where Dicci's physical prowess,
20:24even despite that little finger injury,
20:25he can force it to the apex,
20:27whereas the Aprilian naturally goes in there, perhaps.
20:30Yeah, and you've got...
20:31This is a really fast section of the track
20:33where you have to change direction with throttle,
20:35so there's no...
20:35You're not pitching the bike
20:37because you're not...
20:37You're not rolling off,
20:39so the bike is not transferring weight onto the front
20:41or the rear when you pick up the throttle.
20:43You've got constant throttle,
20:44handling,
20:45muscling the bike around with all that aero
20:47at high speed as well.
20:48The faster you go with those MotoGP bikes,
20:50the harder they are to change direction.
20:52This is where Joe and me is now.
20:54So this is all on throttle there.
20:56Really, really fast, click fork here right now,
20:58and very, very physical part of the track.
21:01And yeah, Dicci is able to make the difference there.
21:05So Marc Marquez comes back in after a first few runs out on track,
21:10running in sixth place,
21:12so I think that's encouraging actually from him.
21:14A reminder, it's a super weekend here on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
21:18We talk about the Champions League final later today,
21:21the Women's FA Cup,
21:22Prem Rugby,
21:22Roland Garros,
21:23UFC,
21:24Giro d'Italia,
21:25and as part of it,
21:26World Superbikes.
21:26Also, they're over in Aragon while we are here in Italy.
21:30Super Bowl coming up in just over half an hour's time.
21:33And if you get the HBO Max app downloaded,
21:36you can see all of the action live.
21:38Maybe you want to watch that while you're watching us go qualifying here in MotoGP.
21:45So, World Superbikes in Aragon and saw Jorge Martin
21:48finds out what it's like when you're 228 miles an hour at the end of a straight.
21:52Well, he took his eye off, didn't he?
21:53He was looking at the screen.
21:55Yeah, no, he was...
21:56I think he was looking at...
21:57Was he looking at DJ?
21:59And, you know, at that kind of speed,
22:01the thing is you run out of road really, really quickly, don't you?
22:05And he got surprised there.
22:06I think he was...
22:07Yeah, he got distracted there, didn't he?
22:10He might have been looking at Morbidelli.
22:14Yeah, he might have been Morbidelli there, but...
22:16Yep.
22:17Turn one.
22:17Fortunately, there's loads of runoff there now.
22:19He said he wasn't that happy with things yesterday,
22:22with how everything was feeling.
22:24He said he felt his foot was part of the thing that he hurt,
22:26you know, just physically.
22:28Five crashes in a race weekend.
22:29Another sixth then...
22:31Oh, we're going to see again.
22:32...in testing.
22:35Ooh, yeah, okay.
22:36Yeah.
22:37So we got...
22:38Was it me or Marini pitting in?
22:40Marini dropping into Pitlion.
22:41Yeah.
22:42And a bit of a roll from Morbidelli,
22:45which has a knock-on effect at that speed.
22:47It happens in a hurry.
22:48And later on, I think at the end of the straight,
22:50Martin was still waving his arm, looking at Morbidelli.
22:54And that's when he, yeah, sort of...
22:57Oh, he's going to come alongside him here now, is he?
23:00Ooh.
23:01Raced in there to the...
23:03There's the limiter.
23:05He's making his point there.
23:07He's running past this.
23:08He just went in front of him and break-checked him, basically.
23:13Well...
23:14It wasn't Morbidelli's fault anyway,
23:16because he was really that pitted in, but...
23:19Anyway.
23:20I mean, new helmet design for Jorge Martin this weekend.
23:23That's because he's lost...
23:24Well, he's lost Red Bull, which was a sponsor,
23:27a personal sponsor for him,
23:28because Aprilia's gone with Monster as a team sponsor.
23:33So, yeah.
23:34And it sounds like it's not a Marc Marquez Park the Red Bull deal.
23:37It's a switch to Monster for Jorge Martin
23:40as he's set to move to Yamaha Factory next season.
23:43Also Monster sponsored.
23:44So, it ends a long-term 10-year-plus relationship, I believe, for Jorge Martin.
23:49Yeah. I mean, since he was rookie's champion.
23:52Always carried it.
23:53So, yeah, just saw the...
23:55A little bit of writing script on the top of his lid there.
24:02Yeah, he's got some Japanese there,
24:03because they're promoting a new restaurant in Madrid
24:06that Iman Aleish, I think, have gone into.
24:09Something like that.
24:10Might as well.
24:12Why not?
24:14You've lost your...
24:15The space there, so...
24:16...drink sponsor there.
24:21229.3 miles per hour, there we are.
24:23For Jorge Martin.
24:25I mean, that's insane.
24:27Could you get 2.30 this weekend?
24:29Yeah.
24:30Quite possibly.
24:30And it's the last year.
24:31It's the last year.
24:32I mean, next year with the 850s and without the ride-hard devices,
24:35they're not going to get anywhere near that.
24:37But what about the smaller aero?
24:38Less drag?
24:39Yeah, still.
24:40Yeah, it's not going to quite have it.
24:41Still.
24:42No, the ride-hard device does make the bike so much more aero off of top speed.
24:48Yeah.
24:48I remember even with the first one with Suzuki, when we tried it, it was like...
24:53I mean, it was insane, the difference.
24:55And, yeah, the bike gained top speed.
24:59So much top speed.
25:00And it wasn't just about coming out of the corner better.
25:02It just...
25:03The bike was still, you know, pushing...
25:05Was pushing better.
25:06Well, there was that shot, wasn't there?
25:08Of Marco Vizecchi down towards Turn 1 at, you know, the end of the straight.
25:13And the bike's so low at the back, but then with the compression of coming over the little crest here.
25:17It's low at the front as well.
25:18It was low at the front as well.
25:19It was like...
25:20It's like almost the aero at the front then.
25:22It's such a big face on that Aprilia.
25:25You know, we talk about the turning, don't we?
25:27And I just wonder whether that...
25:28The way their aero is, that...
25:30You know, it's that big strip right across the front.
25:34Like it would be on the front of a Formula 1 car almost.
25:36But that's pushing the front wheel into the ground at those speeds.
25:40And that's helping the start of the turn.
25:43Yeah.
25:43You know, Ducati's is the side pods, isn't it?
25:46And I just wonder whether having it right across the front there.
25:49There's different philosophy as well.
25:51The Ducati bike is like a...
25:52It's always been a big bike.
25:54It's as in like it's long and it's high.
25:57And it's a bit of...
25:58It's a little bit more boaty type of philosophy.
26:01Where the Aprilia is a little bit sharper, turns a bit sharper, always had.
26:06It was quite nervous.
26:08And that was a problem for many years actually.
26:10You know, the bike was quite nervous.
26:12Like nervous reactions and the riders were complaining about it.
26:15But they managed to settle that down now.
26:17Make it a little bit more compliant.
26:20A little bit more soft.
26:22And help a lot with the aero as well.
26:25They've made massive in rows with the overall aero package.
26:30There's Marco De Luca who was acquired, pinched from Ferrari's F1 aerodynamics team.
26:37He's been the big influence behind that whole Aprilia aero package.
26:40And what a unit it is when you look at it.
26:43It's a work of art but so effective.
26:45The way that it can have less drag but actually keep the nose so low.
26:50It just seems to do everything right.
26:52It works unbelievably.
26:53Best of both worlds.
26:54Yeah, exactly.
26:55Yeah.
26:57See, Aditi's got a new marking at the back of his suit.
27:00The wolf.
27:01Oh, oh, oh.
27:02Michele Pirro.
27:04Through Viondetti.
27:05That's gone a long way that.
27:06That's on the exit of Viondetti, is it?
27:10No, he's in the middle last.
27:11Lost the front early.
27:12Yeah.
27:12Yeah, now.
27:13Oh, he's cruising.
27:13Yeah, that's it.
27:14Cold tyre left side.
27:16Not quite on it.
27:21Yeah, that's, well, yeah, that's, it's so easy to get caught, especially when you're,
27:27I mean, Pirro's got loads and loads of experience.
27:29But you can still get caught with mistakes like that.
27:33It just shows you how hard those bikes are to ride, you know.
27:36And that said, we've got car correction, we're in three seconds.
27:39We're talking about the three second sort of, you know, window.
27:43And he said, he's getting there, step-by-step car.
27:46But he said, it's not an easy task, you know, jumping on those bikes and riding them to
27:51the limit.
27:52Those guys makes it, make it look easy.
27:57So, Bess, now back down pit lane.
28:04It's a different helmet design for him as well, isn't it?
28:07Yeah, with that.
28:10I can't work out, it looked like his old colour scheme that he used to have back in the day.
28:14But it's like, there'll be an announcement somewhere on social media that I'll have missed.
28:22Can't quite work out.
28:23I know Fabry Gian Antonio's is sort of Porsche.
28:29He wouldn't say it.
28:30He wouldn't say it.
28:32He wouldn't say it.
28:32He said, go and see my car in there.
28:33I think he's boy's dream car.
28:35Dream car, yeah.
28:35I think he's like a classic car or something like that.
28:38It's based on the Porsche Spirit 70.
28:40Do you know that model?
28:41I think it's a Cabriolet.
28:42What is it, a Speedster?
28:43No, no.
28:44I think it's a convertible one.
28:46I don't know Porsche's that well, but I believe it's a Spirit 70 is the model.
28:50And that's the textured helmet design.
28:53It's like a Fiat Punto.
28:54Yeah, similar.
28:55Is that what it is?
28:55Yeah.
28:56That's what I'm dealing in.
28:59It'd be a cool car.
29:00They would have been looking at on the ads for years and years.
29:03And now you can afford it.
29:04He's going to get it.
29:06And all credit to you.
29:08Good on you, Fabio.
29:0942 with his bonus from last week.
29:10He's got that new marking on his bum as well.
29:12It says the wolf.
29:14I like that.
29:16Sounds aggressive.
29:20You've been watching gladiators back in the 90s reruns.
29:23But you don't want the wolf.
29:24He doesn't want to be the bad boy, does he?
29:26You don't want the wolf in your slipstreaming on it.
29:28You know, when you're getting into the last lap, do you?
29:31He's going to bite you.
29:31Next time he'll be out with a pugil stick.
29:33On the bike.
29:35Trying to push people off.
29:39So, yeah.
29:44229 miles per hour.
29:45229.03.
29:48That's impressive.
29:49They might even better than qualifying with low fuel load.
29:53You know, looking for slipstreams.
29:55New tyres.
29:57You get everything together.
29:58A little bit less spin.
29:59You know, in that straight.
30:01Coming out of the last turn and into the straight as well.
30:04The bike a bit lighter.
30:08You could still beat that.
30:10But that's very, very fast.
30:16Proud of it.
30:17Love that kind of thing.
30:22So, the fastest man in MotoGP history, Jorge Martin, to add to his 2024 World Championship.
30:33And that's despite the fact that he says he just feels a little bit out of sorts physically.
30:40Six crashes in a three day period.
30:42We'll do that to you.
30:43And then there was, obviously, when Paulo Benora, you know, got his own back.
30:47And they don't talk about that.
30:50I'm not sure if I've forgiven Jorge Martin for shoving Paulo Benora as yet.
30:54It'll take a while to get over that one.
30:56You did testing with him as well, didn't you?
30:58Back in the day.
30:59In the brilliant day.
31:01Yeah.
31:01Back in 2015.
31:02Worked with Paulo.
31:04Sylvain, you worked even closer with him in the World Superbike team.
31:07Yeah.
31:072013 and 14.
31:08He was in charge of all the electronics in World Superbikes.
31:13Before Aprilia made a switch.
31:14There's a bike problem there.
31:16Yeah.
31:17Still running.
31:26Running, but he's pulled it off to the side here.
31:34It's going in gear.
31:35It's like a safe mode or something.
31:37Again.
31:38Keep talking about these safe modes a lot, don't we?
31:41Protecting the engines.
31:42They have that because the engines are so limited.
31:44You really don't want, the manufacturers do not want to lose an engine.
31:49Especially early on during the season.
31:51So you got this kind of like alarms.
31:54And if a sensor gets out of, you know, it's a sensor.
32:04That sounded weird.
32:07It sounded like the gear didn't, didn't engage.
32:09So that could be a gearbox problem.
32:11Yeah.
32:11Maybe a seamless gearbox.
32:12He put it straight back into neutral.
32:14So.
32:15Yeah.
32:15He's crutched that.
32:16And, and thought, yeah, gearbox.
32:18Could be.
32:19Those, those gearboxes are, are quite fragile.
32:21They, well, they're not fragile, but they take a lot of look after.
32:24They, they have to take them out and, and sort of service them very, very often during the, the, the
32:31races.
32:32Next out at KTM.
32:33Next out at KTM.
32:33Next out at Brabindi yesterday.
32:34Using all of pit lane.
32:36To try and finish off the corners.
32:38To help them get round and get down the straight.
32:43Wasn't a great day was it for KTM in general yesterday.
32:45And a Abastinini.
32:47The only bright spot.
32:48The only one directly through into Q2.
32:52And Pedro looked all at sea, but this looks much more competitive for him this morning.
32:57Yeah.
32:58Pedro's going to have to go through Q1, isn't he?
33:01And you've got, how you go around Fernandes in.
33:04It'll be tough.
33:05And Vinales.
33:06Vinales was quick, uh, FP1.
33:10FP1 wasn't in great conditions, but.
33:13And Fabio Quartararo.
33:14I'm never going to count Fabio out when it comes to one lap.
33:17Now he's going to struggle.
33:18Then he got such a power.
33:20Absolutely.
33:20You should see.
33:21Rince made it through yesterday and that all have fired him up.
33:24Remember, was it in France?
33:25I remember speaking to Maya Merigali and he basically said,
33:28seeing Alex Rince directly through into Q2,
33:31changed our rider effectively this morning.
33:34Just a different rider turned up.
33:39Rince's comments last night about Diogo Moreira,
33:43just praying that he didn't pass him down the street and he still blew past,
33:46but he said the bike's working so good in the turns and accelerating.
33:50It's doing everything right.
33:51They're just missing a few ponies down the long run to turn one.
33:54How do you reckon they, how many are they missing, do you reckon, Michael?
33:57Because it looks quite a lot, doesn't it?
33:58Yeah, it does.
33:59It looks significant.
34:00It looks like 20 horsepower, doesn't it?
34:02Yeah.
34:02As much as that.
34:03I was going to say 15, 20, something like that.
34:05Yeah.
34:05Well, in terms of top speed, you're talking 10 miles an hour between Rince and Martin.
34:10In fact, 11, 12 miles an hour.
34:12And it's the way, once they get in that straight and they click fourth,
34:15you know, we're basically, that's the time where all the power is unleashed.
34:19Until that moment, all the bikes on that grid, they are all limited
34:23because too many wheelies, too many wheels, too much power for the low gears.
34:29But from fourth onwards, it's just power.
34:32And you can see that they're getting absolutely destroyed in the straight.
34:38On a, on a track like here, anyway.
34:41Did you catch any of that, Gav?
34:43No, I think he just, he was going through, this is what happened.
34:46He was singing that out because, obviously, we get the sound.
34:50In the garage, there's no audio.
34:51They won't have, they'll have seen the onboard, but they won't have been able to listen and hear it.
34:55What happened?
34:55And they'll probably, if they saw what we saw, they'd be going, ah, right, yeah.
34:59Well, they'll plug that in and they'll see exactly the revs.
35:03They'll see what, what happened.
35:05Yeah.
35:06It looked like the gear just didn't engage.
35:08Yeah.
35:09Oh, here we go.
35:10But the incident of Morbidelli-Martin, so that's been cleared.
35:14It's been cleared and now there's another one.
35:16They're going to check the same incident, but they're going to be in Marini now instead.
35:19Marini's pitted in quite late, so it looked like he was going for a lap and then he just bailed.
35:24Oh, yeah.
35:25He sits up a lot.
35:25And he didn't signal either.
35:28But, then Martins probably thought that's Morbidelli potentially, I don't know.
35:33Well, Morbidelli really can't really do anything about it.
35:37Yeah.
35:38The problem is they come out there quite wide out of the last turn to go onto the straight
35:43and that's where the pit lane entrance is.
35:45So, yeah.
35:48New helmet design there.
35:50Looks like some baby feet on there for Luca Morini.
35:57Just normally it's, it's, and you can make that decision quite late.
36:02Sometimes you just think, oh, I'll do another lap.
36:04And then, and then you get to the pit lane and you're like, no, I'll pit in.
36:07And it's kind of like decision on a layout like here.
36:11If you've got somebody close behind, that can be problematic.
36:15You usually, you know, get out of the way and the guys coming behind,
36:18they know, they can sense that you're going to pit in.
36:21And, yeah, you get out of the way or you put your leg out or, you know,
36:24you sort of signal it just to make sure.
36:28But, yeah, it looks like Morini took the decision quite late there.
36:37I'm on board with Martin.
36:40Down towards Carantayo.
36:46Starting to fill with Ducatisti.
36:49I love the way the bike just cracks when he just opens the throttle.
36:54That phase that we call like bottom jump phase.
36:57When he, the first opening of the throttle.
37:00Now, listen to that now.
37:04Ah, I love that.
37:06That's nice.
37:08The anti-jerk strategy.
37:10Yeah.
37:11It's certainly, it's so smooth when you watch the trackside, isn't it?
37:14That first crack of the throttle down on a modern MotoGP bike.
37:17That's going to be another big top speed.
37:19It's got a great draft there.
37:28On board now with Mark Marquez down towards the Ducati Grandstand.
37:32At Carantayo.
37:36He certainly looked, he said the word he said to me was lazy.
37:40He just looked within himself, didn't he?
37:42Riding until the moment of qualifying.
37:45Yeah.
37:45And then we sort of saw the old Mark, didn't we?
37:48He was attacking again.
37:49And so that, for the fans who want to see Mark come back, start winning races.
37:54It was encouraging to me that, you know, he clearly is riding within himself.
37:59Just looks a bit stiff on the bike, doesn't he?
38:01But he said it, you know, he was honest yesterday.
38:04He said, he said that he actually felt a bit worse than he was expecting.
38:08He was probably feeling all right at home.
38:10And then, yeah, then you get on a 300 horsepower MotoGP bike.
38:15And, you know, sometimes it just feels a bit worse.
38:17And he hasn't got the strength.
38:19I asked him about the bike, if it was then encouraging.
38:22Following on from that interview, you know, to see all the Ducati's up there.
38:25And he goes, I'm telling you, this is still the best bike on the grid.
38:28I believe that.
38:29Of all of them.
38:30Of all of them.
38:31He said, over 22 races, this is the best bike.
38:34Yet, there may be others better at certain places.
38:36But across the season, I still don't think it's the best bike.
38:37I am the problem, was the line that he said.
38:41And then I asked him if he still believed.
38:43And he said, not for this year, I don't.
38:45He's still using the old aero as well.
38:47He hasn't, he's not using that update, is he?
38:49Like Peko is.
38:50Is he allowed to, did he?
38:52Yeah.
38:53Is he allowed to be able to switch yet?
38:54He will be able to move to that.
38:55Yeah, he's not made a switch yet.
38:57Right.
39:04Yeah, he said the aero doesn't work for him.
39:08He said, maybe stature more, those kind of things.
39:11But compared to Alex, his brother, Fabio Impeco, he just didn't feel, he preferred this.
39:19But maybe now with the arm, that might be a different thing.
39:23Maybe.
39:23Yeah, you would expect.
39:24He will test it again once he's back to full fitness and full strength.
39:27It is making the bike more physical, but then also has an added benefit perhaps in acceleration, less wheelie.
39:35Perhaps it's one of those that he will evolve his style to suit as he gets stronger.
39:39But he won't have another chance out of racing, will he?
39:42To test now.
39:43No, not till the Mizano test, which is...
39:46But even then they'll be doing 850s, aren't they all 850 tests from now on, aren't they?
39:50I think there's still a possibility to test here on 1000 at Mizano.
39:55But I know that the shift is definitely towards 850.
40:00Because they have a, there's things going on at this test of Mizano the other day.
40:04They have a test, it was a test that Ducati booked and everyone joined in on it.
40:11But Pirelli's were being run.
40:12And so there is a thing between Pirelli and Michelin.
40:14They will not share the track at the same time.
40:18And Cal Crutchlow was caught in the middle of that.
40:20Because he was obviously trying to get friendly with the LCR Honda.
40:25And, you know, didn't want the bikes to be on at the same time as him.
40:28And he was like, look, I'm not going to be a threat to any of your lap times here.
40:33So don't worry about that.
40:35They do not want the comparison of Michelin versus Pirelli on the same track.
40:39Well, Michelin though, yeah.
40:41True.
40:45It sounds like the 850s are already pretty rapid.
40:49And I say that because Pirelli tend to have more explosive initial performance.
40:53We will, you know, get similar kinds of lap times from the 850s with the Pirellis.
40:58Michelin's are better in longer runs.
41:00That's the simpler way.
41:02Not as much degradation.
41:04Yeah.
41:06Yeah.
41:06Michelin tires perform, you know, chemically work in a very different way to provide the grip.
41:12And perform amicably in a number of different areas.
41:16But their Pirelli's explosive one lap pace is remarkable, really, across the various classes and what they can do.
41:22And how they've improved over the years.
41:24Right.
41:26Everyone's come through the checker flag now.
41:28A wave to the fans.
41:29The Italians around the top spots.
41:32The Gian Antonio has led every single session this weekend so far on home soil.
41:37Is he going to be top dog here in front of his own fans?
41:40Or will another one of the Italians get involved?
41:42Or maybe one of the Spaniards too.
41:44Right.
41:44We're going to find out when we go qualifying, when we come back.
41:57This is where champions leave their mark.

44:09Hello, welcome back.
44:10Wow, what a session that was.
44:12It felt very Mugello, very magical.
44:16229 miles an hour.
44:17I can't get my head around it.
44:19What?
44:19I mean, this is unbelievable.
44:20This is dragster speed.
44:22Unreal.
44:23With all that aero, you know, with all the downforce and so on, they still managed to
44:28make it happen.
44:30Almost 370k an hour.
44:32I mean, this is ridiculous speed.
44:34Absolutely unreal.
44:35And this is likely to stick as well from this weekend.
44:37Obviously, with the 2027 rules next year, the 850s, we're not going to beat that.
44:42So Jorge Martin, yeah, on fire.
44:45Absolute missile that Aprilia.
44:46We know that they are, you know, leading the way with the aero side of things.
44:51You know, this duck that they can sort of plug with the elbows as well, increasing that
44:54top speed and then making it count here.
44:56Yeah, I wonder whether it's going to hit 230 today in the next session.
44:59Could do in qualifying because low fuel load.
45:02Exactly.
45:02You know, a little bit of a better cornering set from the last turn.
45:05A little bit more traction onto the straight.
45:08A good slipstream.
45:09And that's it.
45:10Yeah, plenty to talk about this weekend.
45:11Digi impressing there.
45:13Pedro finding something as well.
45:14And Cal Crutchlow breaking that magic three-second, didn't he?
45:19And it's such a great story to see Cal back here with LCR, the team that he effectively
45:24loved the most, really.
45:25Well, on Thursday, Nat caught up with him to get the whole story.
45:30Monday after Barcelona, I had a load of missed calls on my phone from Lucho, from Daco, from
45:37guys in the team.
45:38And I did say no.
45:39I said, I'm not interested.
45:41But I went home and Lucy said to me, have you spoke to Daco?
45:46And she said, oh yeah, I know everything because they called me first.
45:50And essentially, I just said, I said I was not interested to do it.
45:54Lucy said, why not?
45:56Why are you not doing it?
45:57She said, your life and our life's been an adventure our whole life.
46:03So why are you stopping now?
46:04I imagine reuniting with the team that you shared lots of special moments with played
46:09a little part in that decision-making as well, I guess.
46:14Yeah, I wouldn't have done it for anybody else.
46:16There's no doubt I wouldn't, no matter who called in this paddock, I would have, two things,
46:21I would have thought it was a joke and then I wouldn't have even entertained it.
46:25The thing is, Lucho is mad.
46:27And I'm mad.
46:28So I think that that's what swung it.
46:32Like, only he would, let's say, do something like that, call me, and only I would say yes
46:37in the end.
46:38So I thought, you know, we'll give it a go.
46:41How big a challenge do you see this weekend?
46:45Yeah, and only our luck would be that it comes to Mugello, the hardest one on the whole
46:48calendar, with the 370k an hour straight or whatever it is now, all the changes of direction.
46:55I'm under no illusion how difficult this is going to be.
46:57It's as simple as that.
46:59I'll be very lucky if I don't get lapped, to be honest.
47:01But, yes, this weekend will be about making small steps.
47:04Getting comfortable on the bike is the main thing for me because I don't feel comfortable
47:08on the bike in the moment with the ergonomics of the bike, simply because it's been so long
47:13that I've been off the bike, and the bike has changed so much, as in the length of the bike,
47:18from the handlebars, and as long as we get this, I think I'll be okay.
47:21I suppose, what do you understand, is your role then, this weekend, is it giving feedback
47:27to Honda, is it talking to Marrera, kind of, or is it to enjoy it again?
47:33Yeah, I think a little bit of everything.
47:36My role is definitely not to try and compete, let's say, as in do anything that is not possible
47:43to do.
47:45But, yeah, of course, you know, Honda would not give the blessing to be able to do it
47:50and want me to do it, you know, and they're not going to stick me back on if they don't
47:53think I can do it.
47:53But, yeah, it's a very different scenario.
48:00Well, it's a great story, and he's equipping himself really well across the weekend, building
48:05in, but, you know, he said the problem hasn't been on the bike, the problem is more off the
48:10bike, the thought of getting on the bike and doing what he's got to do, and it's so massive.
48:15I mean, obviously, there's no pressure from the team, but, you know, how have you seen
48:18him evolve over the last day or so?
48:20Because 2020 was his last full racing season.
48:23It doesn't matter how fit you are, there's nothing like riding these bikes, is there?
48:27No, and all these guys, they make it look easy, you know.
48:30The level is so strong.
48:32And the MotoGP bikes, at the moment, are just very particular to ride as well.
48:36Because of the aero, because of the ride-eye devices, there's nothing really that compares
48:42to it.
48:42And the feel that you get from the tyres as well is special, you know, those Michel tyres.
48:46Even though they've not evolved a lot the last few years, they give a very different feel.
48:50They are specific to MotoGP.
48:53And it's so hard to jump in on the bike like that and be competitive.
48:56So, you know, Karl, he's got experience.
48:58And I think that's a big part of it as well.
48:59You know, with the LCR calling him, it's not just an emotional thing.
49:02It's also because he knows what he's doing.
49:04Yeah.
49:05And, you know, they're expecting him to try and enjoy it a little bit, have a good time,
49:09and try and let it be closer.
49:10I mean, you've obviously got the technical side of it, which you guys have talked about.
49:13But the emotional side of this, for the family as well.
49:16Behind every good man is a Lucy.
49:18You know, we've got that story there.
49:19And Willow's here, much older.
49:20She can appreciate what her dad is doing.
49:23And she was so young when he was racing here before.
49:26So, it's gorgeous to see it, isn't it?
49:28Yeah.
49:28And I think that matters for Karl as well.
49:29You know, to be able to see his daughter, Willow, actually understanding what he's doing.
49:35You know, having some memories of what daddy was doing, you know, later on in London.
