00:00This was a big, difficult speech for the Prime Minister
00:03because actually the public are very hesitant
00:05about loosening lockdown restrictions.
00:08The problem for them is that as the crisis goes on longer and longer,
00:11politics starts to return to normal.
00:13So we see increasing level of criticism
00:15from opposition parties and opposition politicians,
00:19and then we see that in the polling numbers as well.
00:30So the general consensus among the public
00:31has been that the government was a little bit too slow
00:34getting into the lockdown in the first place,
00:36but increasingly it looks like the public think the government
00:39are moving out of the lockdown a little bit too fast.
00:42One of the things we asked after the Prime Minister's announcement was,
00:44do you understand this new stay alert message?
00:47And overwhelmingly, seven in ten members of the public
00:49say they don't really understand what that means
00:52or how they're supposed to act off the back of it.
00:54Compare that to their previous slogan, for example,
00:56to stay home, protect lives, protect the NHS and save lives,
01:0091 percent, so almost everyone understood clearly
01:04what was expected of them off the back of that message.
