00:30I had zero energy inside of me, which I took yesterday's recovery day as best as I could to prepare
00:40myself for another battle.
00:42So obviously I wouldn't say that I was feeling 100%, it more looked like that I was still cramping in
00:49the first set.
00:50But no, I mean, jokes aside, yeah, generally it's been a tough, tough, tough day because obviously physically what I
01:03had in my legs in previous match,
01:06also mentally, you know, playing against someone who is basically running around the court, not giving you any mistakes, no
01:16free points,
01:17and especially with someone that I didn't beat before.
01:21So it was really, really difficult to come into that match.
01:26But yeah, the first set, it looked like more than my body needed to again turn on,
01:32because obviously I would, or not obviously, but I would say that still yesterday,
01:38I was still feeling a little bit more of adrenaline, that my body was feeling, I would say, better than
01:44today.
01:45But yeah, so I needed just some time to really turn on the engine, I would say.
01:52And then, of course, I catch the rhythm, I catch the tempo, and then I'm just happy that all the
02:02free sets that I won,
02:03I didn't give him any chance to come back to the match.
02:09Jakob, I'm kind of in awe of you, that you came back and did what you did today.
02:14Can you just tell us what the last 48 hours have been like in terms of what your recovery has
02:20involved,
02:20and has it been the sort of most extreme depths you've had to go to in terms of recovery in
02:25that time?
02:26Yeah.
02:29Normally you would say that recovery day, it's like chilling and basically doing nothing,
02:35but I did a lot of things, I would say, in the last, like you said, 48 hours.
02:45So, obviously, the first day it was just more about to, you know, to calm my body down,
02:51because obviously after the cramps and actually, you know, super dehydration,
02:58so I needed to put as much fluids as I could inside of me.
03:03The next day, of course, it was more to recover my body physically,
03:07of course, do some cardio because, you know, I still needed to keep my body up to put the lactate
03:18from my legs
03:19and from my body to put back into the energy that I needed today.
03:23So, of course, a lot of things that me and my team did, which I'm happy for that,
03:30that we did a great job and that I came back strong enough to compete again on the highest level
03:42and in these, like, very cruel conditions.
03:45Jakob, could you tell us what you said to yourself at the end of that first set?
03:51You was playing lights out.
03:54You won five points in that set.
03:56Was there a feeling that, you know, there's no way back in this?
04:02Or did you always think, I'm going to win this?
04:06Yeah, like I said, in that first set, I was really, like,
04:14it was super, super tough for me to really, just in the warm-up before the match,
04:20to turn my body on again, basically, when I was off for those,
04:2648 hours, even if I tried to keep the energy and try to, you know, boost myself.
04:33But still, I needed some proper time in the match to get back into the match tempo,
04:40which is completely different than the practice, than the warm-up, than anything else.
04:44So, I don't even know, like, what was happening in the first set.
04:50I was really, like, mentally inside of me, just, like, me and myself.
04:56And after the first set, after the toilet break, I just let it out.
05:01And then, I was not just in my cell, but everywhere.
05:06Hey, Jakub, congrats.
05:07Is there any chance that maybe in this tournament you're proving yourself,
05:12or showing yourself that you're even stronger than you might have thought?
05:15Did you know you could dig that deep?
05:19Yeah, I mean, of course, this tournament, especially, you know, test me physically so far,
05:28which I'm super happy with that.
05:32That, of course, it's, you know, one thing is to win a five set match,
05:43basically, nearly five hours.
05:46Yeah, it's good, you know, you physically maintain to do it.
05:52But then, on the other side, in 48 hours, there is another match,
05:57and it could be the same long, even maybe longer.
06:00So, of course, after the past, I remember a couple of five set matches
06:07that I was really destroyed with my body.
06:09And then, on the other day, it was so difficult for me to do any movement.
06:15Of course, the recovery after a win, it's better.
06:20But still, like I said, after this match,
06:25to come back with physically and mentally still strong,
06:29it's something that I really appreciate.
06:32And that is something that we worked a lot.
06:35and I'm happy that I found out that, you know, I can manage to do it.
06:41Last one in English.
06:43Well done, Jakob.
06:46What's the game plan when you go up against someone like Alex
06:49who can run really fast like that and run all day, seemingly?
06:55What do you try and do to overcome a player like that,
06:59especially one who's been around for a while
07:01and has a lot of experience in here?
07:04Yeah, I mean, Alex, obviously, it's a great guy.
07:10And we've played already a lot of matches,
07:14so it was not like something that I don't know what is going on.
07:19But because we already played a couple of matches,
07:22we basically know each other pretty well on the court, of course.
07:27So, yeah, the game plan, of course, Alex, you can see that
07:33he's one of the best players in the Steel.
07:37So, basically, when you are at the King and he's basically everywhere,
07:43he's like, you know, super, super fast,
07:46one of the fastest players on the tour.
07:50So, yeah, obviously, especially, I would say that
07:56these conditions helped me a little bit, you know,
07:59bouncing a little bit higher, a little bit faster.
08:02Even if it is clay, I would say not his favorite surface.
08:07But still, I came up with a game plan,
08:11which I obviously will not tell you,
08:15but I tried my best to keep it.
08:20And I would say that second, third and fourth set,
08:24I managed to do it well.
08:26Hi, Jakob. Congratulations.
08:28This isn't a question specifically for this match,
08:31but your career in general.
08:33Can you tell me what it feels like to be nervous?
08:37Like, what are the symptoms in your body?
08:39Is it a knot in your stomach?
08:41Does your hand shake?
08:43Do your legs feel heavy?
08:46A good question.
08:48I mean, I can talk about it for a while,
08:52but, yeah, I'm nervous, basically.
09:00Damn, you got me here.
09:03Now, of course, like, before the match,
09:07I don't know, in the past,
09:09before my exam in the school,
09:11obviously, you know, you feel nervous,
09:16you know,
09:18something different is to feel nervous
09:19and feeling afraid,
09:21which it's two different things.
09:24But, yeah, when I'm nervous,
09:27like you said,
09:28I feel a little butterflies in my stomach.
09:30like, I would say my mind is a little bit,
09:35you know, everywhere,
09:37not just in the exact moment.
09:39So, yeah, I would say that I'm managing
09:43to be calm in those situations
09:49and to try to, you know,
09:54be in that moment as long as I can.
09:56But when I'm nervous,
09:58it's actually a good thing.
10:00but I think it's sort of smells
10:01like, you know,
10:03especially the scared reaction
