00:00Seeing our world through the lens of community is so important
00:02because we need to redraw the lines of how we engage with each other
00:06both online and off.
00:08What we're exposed to online seeps into how we engage with each other offline.
00:12It can train us to be kind or it can train us to be cruel.
00:16But when the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not,
00:20it erodes our ability to have compassion
00:22and our ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes.
00:26Because when one person buys into negativity online,
00:29the effects are felt exponentially.
00:31It's time to not only reflect, but act.
00:35Now we're just six weeks out from Election Day
00:37and today is National Voter Registration Day.
00:40Every four years we are told the same thing,
00:43that this is the most important election of our lifetime.
00:46But this one is.
00:48When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard.
00:53Your voice is a reminder that you matter
00:55because you do and you deserve to be heard.
00:59This election, I'm not going to be able to vote here in the U.S.
01:03but many of you may not know that I haven't been able to vote in the U.K. my entire
01:06life.
01:07As we approach this November,
01:09it's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.
01:14So as we work to reimagine the world around us,
01:17let's challenge ourselves to build communities of compassion.
01:20Tonight reminds us of how important it is to watch out for each other,
01:24to care for each other and to inspire each other.
