Five arrests as Portuguese police investigate alleged corruption within Socialist Party

00:09operation focused on an alleged kickback scheme linked to the Socialist Party's local government in Lisbon.
00:15The investigation involves suspicions of malfeasance and financial interest in business dealings, specifically regarding the awarding of various contracts by
00:25municipal councils and parish councils, totaling nearly 2 million euros.
00:31Among those targeted are Mayor Miguel Coelho, a key figure in the party in Lisbon, and Duarte Moral, a former
00:38advisor to ex-Prime Minister Antonio Costa and also close to the current Socialist leader.
00:43The Socialist Party Secretary General has already responded, confirming that the headquarters was searched, but that the party was not
00:51a target of the investigation.
00:53José Luis Carnero assured that he will do everything to ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
