00:06Can you just tell us what happened out there and if you had a chance to talk to the medical
00:09team here?
00:11Yeah, I didn't feel very well on court, but it can happen.
00:21I was in a good spot, also third set, but I couldn't serve it out and then struggled quite a
00:29bit.
00:29But yeah, also congrats to him. I don't want to take anything away from him.
00:36He played a very solid match, especially also in the end, and that's the sport.
00:50Really tough one. I wonder if you could just describe kind of how you felt and what happened from that
00:56point at which you were kind of 5-1 up.
01:00Yeah, I struggled, started to feel very dizzy, very low of energy and tried to serve it out, but I
01:14didn't have a lot of energy.
01:16Fourth set, I let it go a little bit, trying to have a bit more energy in the fifth.
01:22Very important game, the first one couldn't hold and then it went a bit downwards.
01:27But yeah, I woke up this morning, didn't feel very well and tried to keep the points very short.
01:38Most in the beginning, I was hitting very clean, very good and then I just kind of hit the wall
01:45and that's it.
01:50Yeah, when did you first, I mean you said you weren't feeling great in the morning, but when did you
01:55first feel it in the match that things were starting to be difficult?
01:58Yeah, middle third set, even though I was playing some great tennis, but really couldn't find any energy today.
02:07It was a tough spot to be in.
02:10But again, this is the sport, it was warm but not crazy warm, I feel like it was quite OK
02:17to play and really it was nothing against the heat, nothing against the weather.
02:23It was just me today, but it happens.
02:28Have you been feeling physically sick or ill this morning or days before that as well, that you think was
02:35the main cause of your low energy today?
02:38Tough to say, I think in general many things together, there's not only one.
02:44I played a lot and didn't have a lot of time to recover.
02:48I came here, first match really good, really solid, but you know, when you come back then the day after
02:55you still don't have a lot of time,
02:57even though I finished late, but not crazy late.
03:02And yeah, I felt this morning, I didn't sleep very well.
03:08And this morning when I woke up, I was struggling a bit, but you know, this can happen.
03:14Usually in Grand Slams you always have a couple of days where you don't feel perfect.
03:17This was today.
03:21And yeah, this happened.
03:26How would you compare this to previous instances where you've had trouble on the court?
03:34like in Shanghai or in Australia in January?
03:40Was this similar to that?
03:42It was tough, tough conditions today.
03:44I know you said not crazy warm, but tough.
03:48So I'm just curious if it was similar.
03:49Yeah, I think, look, Shanghai was very tough, humidity very high.
03:54Australia was very, very warm.
03:55I do remember.
03:57And it's different when you play on hard court because the heat comes also underneath.
04:04And here was, I mean, it was warm, but it was okay.
04:08You know, it was not like I was dying because of the heat.
04:16I think today was a completely different scenario.
04:21but again, you know, this can happen.
04:23It's tough to accept, of course, because of the position where I've been in
04:28and everything considered.
04:30But yeah, now I have a lot of time to recover.
04:35I won't play any tournaments on grass before, most likely.
04:39and now I need really some time off, recover completely, also mentally,
04:45and then be ready to go again from Wimby.
04:51Hi, Annick. Bad luck.
04:53Yeah, as you said, the position you've been in,
04:55obviously you've been performing so well.
04:57I know it's well coming off the court,
04:59but how do you think your kind of process and reflect on this result
05:03and particularly just the bad luck as well of this coming in a slam?
05:12I always try to look the positive side if you watch the whole clay swing very well.
05:20You know, I played really, really, really good winning three tournaments in a row on clay.
05:28Coming here, you know, also how I was playing tennis I felt very well.
05:33You know, hitting the ball in a good way, moving well.
05:39And today was just not meant to be, you know.
05:42I think many things together, you know, cause this problem today.
05:50But again, it can happen.
05:52I just need my time now, you know, to process what went wrong here.
06:01And positive also that we can put in good practice weeks before Wimby.
06:08also because after Wimby we have important tournaments coming up with, you know,
06:14Montreal and...
06:15Montreal, Toronto, I don't know which one is this year,
06:18and Montreal and Cincinnati and the US Open.
06:21So, let's see, there is still plenty to play this year.
06:32Hello, Yannick. Did you consider retiring at some point?
06:35And what were your thoughts from 1-5 in the third to the end
06:40in terms of shall I retire or not?
06:43And if I don't retire, what can I do to try to win?
06:46What are your thoughts?
06:47I know. As I said, the fourth set I let go, you know, to recover also physically.
06:53And fifth set, we all know everything can happen, but...
06:56Yeah, it was tough. I was in a tough spot.
07:01In the fourth and also in the fifth at some point, I really was...
07:05I didn't have energy, really.
07:07I was very, very flat, you know, the whole body.
07:11I don't remember last time I felt this weak, you know.
07:18But, yeah, look, it is what it is.
07:20I mean, I tried to stay there with all I had today,
07:25and this was the maximum I had.
07:28Of course, a pity because I was playing really well the first couple of sets,
07:32and also the third set was playing really well.
07:35But, yeah, that's the sport.
07:40Yannick, do you have any regrets at all about playing so much
07:43in the build-up to this tournament?
07:45Do you think, potentially, if you hadn't played one of those events,
07:48you would have felt with more energy here?
07:51You don't know. I mean, if I don't play Madrid or if I don't play Rome,
07:56maybe I come here and I still have a day like this, you know, where you feel sick.
08:00So, you know, looking back, it's always very tough.
08:04Look, I won three tournaments on clay, incredible results, amazing streak I've had.
08:17Of course, as I said in the beginning of the year, this is my main goal here,
08:21and very early exit, it was not what I was looking for,
08:26but you also don't know if things would have changed.
08:31You know, if I would maybe skip Madrid and play only Rome,
08:35or maybe skipping Rome and to come here, you never know.
08:37So, yeah.
08:40Okay, thank you.
08:42Thank you.
