00:00President Trump hosted a marathon cabinet meeting Wednesday, which included over an hour of Q&A
00:05from reporters. As you might guess, there were a lot of questions about Iran. And just hours
00:10after that meeting, Reuters reported fresh U.S. strikes targeting a military site that threatened
00:15American troops and commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The outlet, citing a
00:19U.S. official, also reported that drones launched from Iran were intercepted by American forces.
00:25Now, the Strait was also a big topic of conversation during that cabinet meeting.
00:29With the president threatening the country of Oman if it sides with Iran in any negotiation
00:34to reopen it. Nobody's going to control its international waters and Oman will behave just
00:40like everybody else who will have to blow them up. They understand that. They'll be fine.
00:45The Post's White House reporter Emily Gooden was in the cabinet room for the proceedings,
00:48and she filled me in on the Oman issues and some of the other highlights from the meeting.
00:52You had to start off with a little bragging news. This candidate in the Texas Senate primary
00:58won the primary election, so he noted that, and noted he's had a successful primary season.
01:05But the big main news out of this meeting was on Iran and the war there.
01:11The president, again, doubled down, made clear that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons,
01:16which seems to be one of the sticking points in the peace talks.
01:21Now, the president didn't give a timeline on when he expects these talks to be ended,
01:25but he did say they're ongoing.
01:31Additionally, an interesting thing that came up in the meeting was the president
01:35made a bit of a threat toward Oman, which has been a big U.S. ally in the region.
01:40And this came about because there was a proposal floated that Oman and Iran kind of split the
01:47oversight of the Strait of Hormuz, which is that critical waterway where all the oil and
01:51supplies flowed through.
01:55The president obviously is not in favor of that.
01:57He was very clear that he wants the waterway to be free and international,
02:01and he indicated the U.S. would oversee that.
02:03So that was some movement there on those.
02:07Finally, I got to ask the president a question, and I asked him something that all New Yorkers
02:12are wondering.
02:13Is he coming to one of the Knicks games next week?
02:15And he indicated that, yes, he is.
02:17The president is a huge Knicks fan.
02:19And as we know, it's been decades since they won a championship game.
02:23So he said that the owner invited him.
02:26He very much wants to go, and he's very much rooting for the hometown team.
02:30Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen says local authorities
02:33in Sanctuary City airports have basically blocked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents
02:38from deporting what he called the worst of the worst.
02:41His solution?
02:42Well, he shared it with Sean Hannity on Fox News.
02:45We're currently drawing up plans to say, listen, in these Sanctuary Cities,
02:49where the local radical left Democrats aren't allowing us to do our job and enforce federal laws,
02:56then we shouldn't be processing international flights into their cities either,
03:01because they don't want us to enforce immigration,
03:04but they want us to process immigration at their facilities.
03:07Nothing about that makes sense to me.
03:09Essentially, the Secretary wants to pull ICE from airports in sanctuary cities,
03:13places like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle,
03:17cities with massive international airports.
03:20As you might imagine, that will make international travel a huge headache.
03:23Last year, about 50 million international passengers came into or out of the three major New York City
03:30airports alone, and that's just one of the cities being targeted.
03:33It's not a popular suggestion.
03:35Airlines and even Mullen's own colleague, Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy,
03:39are very much against the idea.
03:42We have people from around the world and around the country that need to be able to fly
03:44into all different kinds of places.
03:46We shouldn't shut down air travel in a state that doesn't agree with our politics.
03:51Former First Lady Jill Biden has made a surprising and some might find infuriating admission about
03:57Joe Biden in an interview with CBS News.
03:59She was asked about her husband's infamously terrible performance in the 2024 presidential
04:04debate with Donald Trump.
04:06Here's what she said.
04:07I wasn't horrified.
04:08I was frightened because I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since.
04:17I don't know what happened.
04:19I mean, when I, as I watched it, I thought, oh my God, he's having a stroke.
04:23And it scared me to death.
04:25Biden, the then president, shocked the nation that night, repeatedly freezing on camera,
04:30fumbling answers, and he appeared just kind of dazed and confused.
04:34And yet after the debate that frightened her so much, the First Lady played the supportive
04:38wife role, praising his performance.
04:40During an event with supporters shortly after the disastrous debate, she said, quote,
04:44Joe, you did such a great job.
04:46You answered every question.
04:47You knew all the facts.
04:49Within a month, the calls for Joe Biden to drop out of the race grew too loud to ignore.
04:53Of course, he left the race, setting up Kamala Harris to run.
