00:00The United Nations is warning of a possible global food security crisis
00:04unless action is taken to ease shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
00:10Its Food and Agriculture Organization, or FAO,
00:13said the ongoing Iran conflict has disrupted shipments of oil,
00:18liquefied natural gas and fertilizers,
00:20driving up costs across global agricultural supply chains.
00:25The agency warned that higher energy prices are already increasing operating expenses
00:31for farmers, food producers and transport networks around the world.
00:35It also said rising fertilizer costs are pushing up seed prices,
00:39raising concerns over lower crop yields in the months ahead.
00:43According to the FAO, the most severe impact of the crisis may not be immediate,
00:47but could emerge later this year when farmers begin harvesting smaller outputs.
