The National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the City Government of Imus led the commemoration of the 128th anniversary of the Victory at Alapan on May 28, 2026, at the Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat Heritage Park in Imus City, Cavite.

Cavite Governor Francisco Gabriel Remulla served as guest of honor together with Senator JV Ejercito, Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., and other officials during the opening of the Kalayaan 2026 celebrations.

The event honored the 1898 Battle of Alapan, where Filipino revolutionary forces led by Emilio Aguinaldo defeated Spanish troops in Cavite. The victory also marked the first public unfurling of the Philippine flag made in Hong Kong by Marcela Mariño de Agoncillo.

The observance also marked the start of National Flag Day, which runs until June 12 in celebration of Philippine independence. (via Mark Balmores | MB)
