00:00The Crystal Palace press conferences with coach Oliver Glasner and player of the match Adam Wharton.
00:05Same rules apply with regards to languages for questions.
00:09Please raise your hand and identify yourself to my colleague Jo over there.
00:15Hello everyone, if you can raise your hand, the gentleman in the middle here in the second vote.
00:19If we wouldn't mind making it one question per person, that would be helpful, thank you.
00:26Good evening, first of all, congratulations, it was an amazing match, but I have a question on the player.
00:34You had just one shot in the match and it ended up changing the whole final.
00:39You had quite a little bit of the space in that moment, in the end it was the decisive shot,
00:44so what was going through your mind in the decisive moment?
00:48Did you think you would like to pass or the shot was the best option? Thanks a lot.
00:55No, I was looking for the pass first. I don't shoot too much, as you've probably just said there, one
01:02shot.
01:04But yeah, as I was going forward with the ball, I was originally looking for a shot, a pass, sorry.
01:10I seen Munoz was at the back post, I was going to play it to him when I was getting
01:14a bit closer
01:15and then they just kept going back when there was more space, so I got close enough to have a
01:20shot
01:20and thankfully it ended up going straight to JP, so it was a good shot.
01:28Can you pass the mic down to Ed? Thank you.
01:31Hi, this is to Oliver, please. The first half wasn't the greatest display from either team,
01:36but what did you say at half-time, because your team came out in the second half just to transform?
01:43As you know, it's often in the final that you don't call in from the first minute,
01:47and I think the first game was how we expected it.
01:52We had a great chance right at the end, also in this moment Adam decided to cross
01:57and then found T Mitchell on the far post. In the second half we said,
02:01okay, keep going, we will get our chances, and the goal was, I think, I don't like to praise an
02:11individual player,
02:12but I think both sixes, Adam and Daiji played very, very well today,
02:16because we knew they will press us with minus one player and the keeper plus one in the back,
02:21and then it was, how quick can we switch the side?
02:26And in this moment we found it with Danny Munoz to Daiji Kamado with one touch to Adam,
02:33and then he had a lot of space so we could find the right player,
02:37and then it was the right decision, and I think this goal gave us a lot of confidence,
02:41because then we were really electric, so we played forward with an incredible free kick from Jeremy Pino,
02:51the next chance from JP, and honestly I was a little bit worried, because very often,
02:58I don't know if you say the same in English, it's when the goals you don't score, you concede,
03:02and we could have decided it, and then of course it's just 1-0, they went all-in,
03:07all the tall players up front kicking the balls long, but we defended them so well as a team,
03:12and so at the end I think we deserved the win.
03:16Sorry, Bobby, yeah.
03:17Ailover, congratulations. At which moment of the game was it the final whistle that it finally set in,
03:24that it was your last game managing Crystal Palace?
03:26Final whistle, so honestly, again, because it's, I think we did really well keeping the ball in their half,
03:34but again, I think it was then the keeper kicked another long ball, you never know a second ball,
03:40deflected and had a free kick, I think, well, Sean got the header, missing the target,
03:47so, you know, I was just really, I took a deep breath with the final whistle.
03:56Adam, we saw you limp off on Sunday, was there any ever doubt that you weren't going to start
04:01and then play 90 minutes and then run the show like that, just to watch through that?
04:05Yeah, there was a lot of doubt, pretty much just had my foot in an icebox for the last couple
04:12of days,
04:14just trying to get the swelling down and stuff, a few painkillers and that done the job, so,
04:21yeah, to be fair, like, I couldn't really shoot fully, so, even the shot was a bit,
04:28it wasn't...
04:29Never seen you shooting.
04:33Yeah, it wasn't very comfortable, but I'm not going to miss a final for a little swollen angle, so, yeah.
04:44Okay, Rachel behind, thank you.
04:47Hi Oliver, congratulations again.
04:49When we first met you back in Beckenham in February 2024, you told us who you were not.
04:54You were not a magician, you were not David Copperfield.
04:57Now, just because it's our last opportunity, I want to ask you who you are
05:00and how you'd like to be remembered by Crystal Palace Football Club
05:02after bringing a little bit of magic to the club.
05:05No, I just guided this group of players and their staff, and I supported them,
05:11and I said, you know, this is, it's, I really, this is, because it's my 100% conviction, so, I
05:21can't do anything alone.
05:22You know, I could be the best magician, it wouldn't work without the players.
05:25And so, it's all, the players deserve all the credit, because they have to listen, they have to trust me
05:37and myself and the staff, of course.
05:39They have to work very hard, and I think every player will tell you that I'm very demanding.
05:49So, if things don't go how I think they should go, or if players probably drop the standard by one
05:57or two percent, I don't, I can't accept it.
06:00So, I, and this is just, and then sometimes they are a little bit upset with me, and I'm, and
06:06that's fine.
06:07But at the end, I think they know that I want the best for every single one, and I want
06:12the best for the team.
06:19You know, we don't drop it anymore, because it, it, it makes fun, yeah, and we see what is possible.
06:26And, and this is, this is what I see as my job, to get everybody aligned in the way we
06:32are playing, in the way we are defending, in the way we are attacking, and to get everybody aligned in
06:36the mindset we have.
06:37And if we, and, therefore, you need great, of course, talented football players, but you need great characters, because they
06:46have to follow.
06:47And so, they deserve all the credit, and at the end, it's now with one year delay that Crystal Palace,
06:55the players, the club, and the supporters get what they have deserved last year after winning the FA Cup, and
07:02that's a spot in the Europa League.
07:04Okay.
07:05Hi.
07:06Question for Oliver.
07:08Congratulations.
07:09You've brought so much joy to Crystal Palace.
07:12You clearly have such a strong emotional connection with the players and the supporters.
07:17After you've had a night like this, and a moment like this, is there any chance you could be persuaded
07:23to stay?
07:24No.
07:24So, I remember you asked me once, it was at the academy when the fans prepared a banner, when we
07:32were struggling a little bit, and now it's the same.
07:37It's, it's, I see myself as a servant for the players, as a servant for the club, and then somebody
07:42who, who gives the direction.
07:46Yeah.
07:49And, and, and of course, and I told the players today in the meeting when we had it in the
07:53hotel, because I got many, many messages from fans where they said, thank you for the best day in my
07:59life, and all the stuff, and I really appreciate it.
08:02And I just have, I told the players exactly the same, so I have to say thank you to the
08:08players, I have to say thank you to the supporters, because it's the same.
08:11It's also an incredible, another incredible day for me and for my family, sharing these moments with my family here
08:17at Leipzig again.
08:19This is just a fantastic day, so I have to say thank you to the players, because they have to
08:25do all the job.
08:26Thanks.
08:27And this gentleman over here on the left.
09:01Ah, you don't understand that.
09:02Ah, you don't.
Spiele
12:13Oliver, jetzt erst einmal gratuliere.
12:30Aber was war dein Fernziel, Thomas? Was hast du dir ausgerechnet, was mit diesem Klub möglich wäre, was dann worden
14:40Also Ryan at the back und der Gentleman da.
14:42DJ, DJ ist waiting.
14:45DJ ist waiting, ja, ich habe gehört.
14:48Congratulations, both of you.
14:58First of all, how did you respond to that?
15:02And to produce a performance like that in a major European final, are you booking any holidays?
15:08Or are you going to wait to see if maybe there's a chance that you might enter Thomas Tugel's thinking?
15:15Yeah, no, that's just part of football.
15:20It was never a guarantee I was going to go.
15:22So, I knew that.
15:25And, yeah, when he called me, he just told me I wasn't there.
15:29He said it was close.
15:32But, yeah, like I said, that's football.
15:34I'm not going to sit here and cry about it.
15:38Still had two games for Palace to go.
15:40Obviously, tonight being a massive one.
15:42So, yeah, I don't really dwell on them things too much.
15:47It's not the end of the world.
15:48I'm still young.
15:50Hopefully, there's other tournaments and World Cups that I can go to in the future.
15:55But, yeah, I was just focused on Palace and coming here and getting the win, which we have done.
16:02So, yeah, I'm glad with that.
16:04And I've got a couple of places booked to go.
16:08But I'm just going to enjoy my summer here and tonight.
16:12Well done.
16:13Two rows in front in white.
16:16Thank you very much.
16:18Question for Oliver.
16:19Oliver, you became just the second Austrian to win two European trophies after Ernst Happel.
16:25To be in the same name as Ernst Happel, what does that make you feel like?
16:30No, of course, it's two major European trophies.
16:36But I think Ernst Happel won twice the Champions League.
16:38So, much better than I am.
16:39European Cup.
16:40Yeah, I think it was Cup of the Champions League.
16:42It was a different format.
16:44But I think it won twice the Champions League Cup of the Landesmeister.
16:48Yeah, but twice the Champions League.
16:52Yes, so I won just the Europa League and the Conference League.
16:56So, yeah, you can ask me the same question.
16:58If I have won the Champions League twice, then probably I'm on the same level that he is.
17:04But now I don't feel like this.
17:06And it's also not important.
17:08It's different times.
17:10But Ernst Happel, he was his times ahead.
17:14Like probably Pep Guardiola was in the last decade.
17:18And so I think it's, I don't deserve to be compared to him.
17:23Okay, that's it.
17:25Thank you very much, everyone.
17:26Just because it's my last press conference.
17:28It is.
17:29It is.
17:29It's my last press conference.
17:30120.
17:31This season.
17:33This season press conference.
17:35And I would like to thank you, especially all the English ones who were on maybe all 120 press conferences.
17:45So thank you for asking not too stupid questions.
17:50And also, always listening to my European accent.
17:56And, yeah, thank you very much.
18:00And the thing we could deliver is that you can travel in Europe next season as well.
18:05So like the players, so hopefully you have extended your visa already.
18:09So thank you very much.
18:11Wish you all the best.
18:12Enjoy the holidays like we all do.
18:32Thank you very much.
