German far-left militant Daniela Klette jailed for 13 years for robberies

Klette was part of a trio, along with fellow gang members Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, active as part of the RAF's "third generation" in the 1980s and 1990s.

00:02German far-left militant Daniela Kleiter has been sentenced for 13 years in prison on Wednesday
00:08for a series of armed robberies committed while she was a fugitive. The 67-year-old and former
00:15member of the Red Army Faction, or RAF, was arrested in her Berlin apartment in February
00:212024 after evading authorities for more than 30 years. Kleiter was found guilty of six counts of
00:29particularly serious robbery committed between 1999 and 2016, as well as other charges including
00:36extortion and arms violations. The robbers got away with a total of 2.4 million euros, according to
00:44prosecutors. Kleiter was accused of having been the getaway driver in several heists and carrying a
00:52realistic-looking dummy bazooka in robberies where the men carried assault rifles. Prosecutors also
00:58accused Kleiter of three politically motivated attacks in the 1990s, while the gang was still
01:05active, but those charges are being dealt with in separate proceedings. The RAF is also known as the
01:12Vademainov Gang, a radical anti-capitalist group that carried out killings, bombings and kidnappings
01:18mainly in the 1970s and 1980s.
