00:00It is my great honor to welcome you to the American Institute in Taiwan
00:03to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence,
00:06a celebration we call Freedom 250.
00:10Tonight, we gather to reflect on the enduring principles
00:13that gave rise to our nation
00:15and continue to unite free societies everywhere.
00:19On July 4th, 1776,
00:22the founders of the United States declared a revolutionary idea
00:24that people should be free to govern themselves,
00:27to pursue their dreams, and to build a society
00:30based on justice, equality, and opportunity.
00:34The idea of government of the people, by the people, and for the people
00:38has resonated across centuries and continents.
00:41As we celebrate Freedom 250,
00:43we are reminded that this idea is not exclusive to the United States,
00:47but rather belongs to the people of the world.
00:50What a pleasure it is to celebrate Freedom 250 here in Taiwan
00:53among those who believe in the essence of human dignity
00:57and the virtues of democratic governance.
01:00The United States and Taiwan's shared commitment to democracy
01:03is foundational to our relationship.
01:05Taiwan has shown the world the great progress possible
01:08when a society is committed to democracy, openness, and the rule of law.
01:13Today, Taiwan stands as a model for the region and beyond
01:16and a testament to the resilience of the 23 million people who call Taiwan home.
01:22And just as importantly, we need to defend together those liberties and freedoms.
01:26I am honored that we are joined by representatives of all of Taiwan's political parties
01:29and encourage their ongoing work to enhance Taiwan's security.
01:33These investments will make the United States
01:34and the entire Indo-Pacific more secure and prosperous.
01:38That spirit of collaboration is at the heart of what we mark today
01:41on this 250th anniversary.
01:43Thank you again for your friendship, your partnership,
01:46and your commitment to a shared future.
01:48Thank you.
01:51Thank you.
