Dailymotion cricket tv channel is presenting highlights of close cricket contest.*Pakistan vs South Africa 5th ODI, 29 Oct 2007, Gaddafi Stadium Lahore*

This was the series decider. South Africa led 2-1 with one no-result, so whoever won would take the 5-match series 3-1. The match became famous for Pakistan’s collapse from a winning position and the “chokers” tag getting passed back.

### 1. What Happened

*South Africa Innings: 233/9 in 50 overs*
- *Toss*: South Africa batted first 7b7986bc
- *Start*: Disaster for SA – Graeme Smith out for 0 to Shoaib Akhtar first over 7b79
- *Recovery*: Herschelle Gibbs 54 off 61 and Jacques Kallis 86 off 130 put on 80 for the 2nd wicket.
- *Middle overs*: AB de Villiers 17, JP Duminy 44 kept it ticking. 7b79
- *Finish*: SA lost wickets regularly but Kallis anchored to 233/9. Pakistan’s bowlers pulled it back well:
- Shoaib Akhtar 4/43 in 9 overs
- Iftikhar Anjum 3/45

*Pakistan Innings: 219 all out in 46.3 overs*
- *Target*: 234 to win the series.
- *Good start*: Imran Nazir and Younis Khan put on 59 for the 1st wicket.
- *Middle*: Younis Khan 58 and Mohammad Yousuf 53 added 95 for the 3rd wicket. At 154/2 in the 33rd over, Pakistan needed 80 off 102 balls with 8 wickets in hand. It looked done.
- *Collapse*: Then Pakistan lost 8/65.
- Younis got out for 58, triggering the slide.
- Makhaya Ntini 4/61 and Albie Morkel 4/44 ripped through the lower order.
- Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal all got starts but threw it away.
- Pakistan bowled out for 219 in 46.3 overs, losing by 14 runs

### 2. Where the Suspense Was

*The “choke” angle*:
Pakistan were cruising at 154/2 in the 33rd over. 80 needed off 17 overs with Younis and Yousuf set. Commentators were already talking about Pakistan leveling the series 2-2. Then Younis got out for 58, and it unraveled fast.

*Shoaib Akhtar’s return*:
Shoaib was playing his first match back after a ban. He set the tone by bowling Smith for 0 and finished with 4/43. Every over from him had the crowd on edge.

*Kallis vs Pakistan*:
Kallis batted through the middle overs on a slow Lahore pitch. His 86 was classic Kallis – blocking, rotating, punishing bad balls. Pakistan couldn’t get him out until the 47th over. His innings gave SA a defendable total.

*The last 5 overs*:
Pakistan needed 35 off 30 balls with 4 wickets left. Morkel and Ntini bowled hard lengths, and Pakistan’s tail couldn’t rotate strike. The required rate climbed from 6 to 9 per over in 3 overs. The crowd went from roaring to silent.
3. Why It’s Remembered
1. *“Chokers” tag passed*: Before this, South Africa had the reputation for choking in big chases. This time Pakistan collapsed while chasing a modest 234, and South African media ran with “Pakistan choke in sight of victory”. 2.Series decider drama*: It was 2-1 with one no-result, so this was a knockout. South Africa won 3-1.
3.Shoaib’s impact: His pace and aggression gave Pakistan a sniff early, cricket on Dailymotion.

00:27batting is shown in these highlights I hope you will enjoy this
00:33what a shot by Imran Nazeer
00:37just counted on the ball wickets with the bouncer already in this series run as if
00:44you give him a bit of a room just sort of a length he'll stand up and and give a
00:48full throttle that's what he's done beautiful shot now this young Imran
00:56is it beautiful shot on that occasion just fuller on that it will cost him
01:03I wonder if you'll get a wicket with it
01:07good shot this sort of straight half folly work wide a middle
01:14and another one
01:16and another foot
01:27runs this time for Cameron Akmal
01:35gone it was almost as if you could see it was a good delivery no respect for it
01:39well you said one too many I said five too many shots that was a poor shot once
01:45again he swung the bat one I think that was very poor 17 22 for one
01:53so Eunice Khan the man in at the non-strikers end this is the end of the over
02:05oh is that gone for four it should be that's four
02:12oh it's gonna be four more
02:17oh sweet timing smith in pursuit this time and he might well haul it in he does
02:25and they've run three
02:30didn't this didn't really slash
02:35that is a fine shot
02:39okay soft stamp rock back onto the back foot and time that to perfection
02:50and now as you can see
02:53the man who was too full
02:56the previous one for four but he hit the previous delivery straight this one he
03:00went across the line
03:08it's not a good shot this delivery was too full he was well set
03:11he's gone for twenty four forty three for two
03:16I'm just it comes to the crease
03:23ball the lot of command
03:31our volume for was a gap
03:37and the ball went to four
03:39very nice timing by
03:41Mohamed Youssef he's coming to form now
03:49you have to hurry
03:50oh Dave must have been miles out had he hit
03:54must have been
03:56caught in this series isn't spectacular as far as running is concerned
04:00Eunice Khan has been run out before and so too Mohamed Youssef
04:04always when they battered together you need to hit the stumps from there
04:07though
04:08it's a good enough angle
04:14beautiful stroke good fielding though
04:18J.P. Dumini the man who's the deepest of the four in the covers
04:24and he smashed that back pass
04:26Kullis had to get his shins out of the way
04:30times he tries to whip it just down the on side of the stumps
04:37early chassis and then bang
04:40in those ten overs
04:4140 runs
04:4240 runs of 60 balls
04:48and I think that
04:50proved to be critical
04:51they they tried to keep
04:52when it gets to the end
04:54they were never
04:57might have hit one of the little disc markers
04:59yep
05:00and they're popping to be here
05:01well done
05:01you should have kept your eye on it
05:05there's a big shout here
05:07has he hit it
05:08think so
05:13hit the pad it seemed
05:18oh that
05:19if that didn't hit the bat
05:21I think that would have hit the stumps
05:26oh has he got a touch on that
05:27has he got a touch on that
05:29there's an ask
05:34if it was at the non-striker's end
05:36when Nell gets a boot on it
05:40as soon as the ball was struck
05:42Yusuf was putting his bat back in
05:43because it was struck straight
05:45it's good thinking
05:49sweet timing
05:51poor delivery
05:55it's good fielding from the South African captain
06:05that is a very good shot
06:11I think that was the idea
06:13from the wicket keeper Mark Boucher
06:16to come
06:16way outside the off-suite
06:21that's beautifully struck
06:23huge gap between mid-on
06:25and the mid-wicket
06:26Innes Kahn's footwork
06:33there's 50 for Yunus Kahn
06:34and well played
06:37when he came in
06:39Pakistan were in trouble
06:41he's always there
06:42when Pakistan need it
06:43batting in number 3
06:46superb knock
06:47of just 56 deliveries
06:48it took him to get to his 50
06:55no one sweeping off
06:58catch it
06:59catch it

07:50he says
07:51to Mohamed Youssef
07:52went
07:52ordinary delivery
07:54a wide delivery
07:55and it's a first ball
07:56bowled
07:56by Germany
07:58as well
07:58so
07:58first ball
07:59after the break
08:05and the finger goes up
08:08Mohamed Youssef
08:09goes for
08:1053
08:11it's one of the
08:11one sixty four four
08:14we saw Misbaul Huck struggling in the last match
08:18when he didn't really move his feet and just got caught behind
08:25that's flown past to Villiers
08:27he feels that he might have had a chance of catching that
08:30is almost on it
08:32but that was a hit really hard
08:35given everything to it
08:41well I'm sure John T. Lord would have got that one
08:44could have gone for four another four
08:46that's handy boundaries two handy boundaries for Pakistan
08:50good stroke
08:53beautiful straight blade
08:55maker's name look at that
08:59oh it's gone wide of Gibbs
09:03who's in a sort of third slip position it's gone through second
09:06and to add insult to it
09:07just in the wrong position now
09:10Herschel Gibbs
09:12one step to his left
09:13that would have gone
09:16painful for the ballers
09:20pull him out
09:22is there gonna be
09:23they're catching
09:25accent delivery
09:26little inside edge
09:28I think it's a swing which did Shreem Malik saw
09:31couple of balls swinging away

10:43that was the only problem
10:44the line was fine
10:47but that was a very good shot
10:56he still falls safely
10:58oh no it's brilliant
11:01A.B. de Villiers
11:02I thought that was gonna fall safely
