Jockey Sent Flying from Horse in What Punters are Calling One of the Worst Racing Falls Ever.

THIS is the terrifying moment a jockey is sent soaring into the sky in a horrendous mid-race fall, punters are calling one of the worst ever.

Poor Edgard Zayas was launched up and over the front of his mount,t Glint, in a race at Aqueduct racecourse in New York on Sunday.

The duo set off well in the mile contest for four-year-olds and up.

Zayas rushed his horse along out of the stalls to get a prominent spot on the outside of the field alongside rival Screaming Uncle.

But that was when all hell broke loose.

According to the report of the race on US racing bible Equibase, Glint, who looked to be wanting to move closer to the inside running rail, clipped the heels of Screaming Uncle, who was travelling up his inside.

That caused Glint to stumble, sending Zayas flying.

His feet came out of his irons, and as the horse reared up, momentum took Zayas forward and over the horse’s head.

Incredible stills of the incident show Zayas fully airborne… and with nowhere to go but down.

The jockey, 32, was shown on the live feed seemingly smashing into the dirt head-first as his mount ran off.

Incredibly, Zayas was unhurt in the incident, and the horse, which was caught by an outrider, was totally fine as well.

Zayas wrote on X: “Thank you to everyone for the prayers, messages, and positive thoughts today.

“Thank God I am OK and managed to escape any injuries!”

While his agent, Tito Fuentes, confirmed, “He just had a little cut on his hand and his face. Other than that, he’s fine.”

Punters couldn’t believe what they had seen.

It’s usual for a jockey to try to cling on grimly to the reins after a stumble or bounce slightly out of the saddle.

But Zayas’ air time was unlike anything most had ever witnessed.

One punter said, “Wow. I have never seen a jockey thrown in the air SO HIGH from a stumbling horse.”

Another wrote on X: “Unseated? He was launched!”

One viewer said: “Wow, he was pole vaulted… ouch!”

While another quipped, “He should get frequent flyer miles for that.”
