00:06These are Sri Lankan palm vipers, and this is a species I've been working with for several years.
00:12This mother I actually raised as a newborn baby.
00:15So it's very exciting to see that four years in the works, she is finally able to reproduce for me.
00:21Now, these are a pit viper species from Sri Lanka.
00:26And with them being in the genus, originally Trimerosurus, now it's like Cratocephalus or something like that.
00:36Craspitocephalus, I don't even know how to pronounce it.
00:39They give life birth.
00:41And here you can see the mother having contractions, trying to move the rest of the babies,
00:48potentially infertile slugs down the oviduct, so then they can come out the cloaca,
00:53which is the opening where the both reproductive and digestive systems exit.
00:59So I ended up cutting this video short because I didn't want to disturb her too much.
01:03So I mainly just wanted to show you guys the contractions and how she will pass everything down her body.
01:08And I will give you an update on how many babies are born.
01:11I'm really hoping there's a lot.
01:13So far there were three alive babies and one stillborn.
