00:00The original call came in between 6.30 and 7 on a Sunday evening, with rescue crews getting suited up
00:06a little after 9.
00:07We enter the cave. It takes about 20-ish minutes to crawl back to where he's stuck.
00:11It's only 400 feet away, but it's incredibly tight and slow going.
00:15What they found when they reached him was a dire situation.
00:19There's still three of his buddies who are still with him, and they're trying to get him out.
00:25At this point, they've been in the cave for many hours, so they are all hypothermic.
00:2950 degrees and 100% humidity means they have to work fast, but they can't.
00:34And he was really jammed in there more than I had expected.
00:39It was like his full body was stuck in a crevice that was basically designed the exact shape of him.
00:47While members of the Albany-Scoharry Cave Rescue Team left to get a hammer drill,
00:51Lieutenant Gullen tried to get the man out and keep him calm.
00:55Just the two of them in there alone for an hour and a half.
00:58For most people, that's like their worst nightmare.
01:01So he did such a great job keeping a positive attitude.
01:05He was giving me thumbs up. We were telling jokes.
01:07He did a great job keeping a positive attitude.
01:09Then the team came back with the rock drill with very little space to work.
01:13I was drilling, you know, inches from the subject's head and back, so I had to be very careful.
01:20After 20 minutes of drilling and hammering away?
01:23And then finally was able to get that one small piece of rock free and clear, and that was all
01:30it took.
01:31Uninjured, he was able to wiggle his way out.
01:34Once we were able to get to a point where we could high-five, we were high-fiving.
01:37It's a feeling that I wish everyone could experience because there's nothing like it.
01:41You know what I wish everyone.
01:41Nobody would've been talking about it.
01:42Maybe one ultraincilbing.
