00:00Madison Mueller, a Bloomberg health reporter, joins us on set. So this is interesting. We could see, I think it's
00:06a four hour intravenous treatment that essentially solves bad cholesterol issues for what, the rest of your life?
00:13Yeah, I mean, that's the idea is to have a one time treatment that would prevent heart attacks, prevent potentially
00:18heart disease for people, which is still the number one cause of death globally is heart disease. And so this
00:24is potentially something that could be a really big deal, both for Lilly and for people around the world.
00:29But the thing that we have to keep in mind right now is that this was still a really small
00:33early stage trial. So we still need more results to see if this is something that will actually bear fruit
00:39that will come to market. But as of right now, it's a pretty exciting, promising early signal, sort of part
00:45of Lilly's effort to expand beyond obesity. Obviously, it's a large company with many different other disease areas that they're
00:52trying to solve for. And the biggest thing for Lilly right now is trying to figure out sort of what
00:56their next era of growth will be beyond obesity.
00:58So this is part of that strategy.
01:00Well, just on that, you were reporting this morning that they bought three different vaccines in infectious diseases. Is this
01:05the same idea trying to expand beyond obesity?
01:08Yeah, exactly. So Lilly has sort of a long history in infectious disease. They were the first ones to manufacture
01:13the Salk polio vaccine back in the 1950s. They made antibiotics back in the 1940s. And so they've been in
01:21this area, you know, over the last hundred years or so.
01:25But they're getting back into it. They hired former FDA official Peter Marks back last year. And so he's overseeing
01:34that unit. He has a lot of experience there. And so this is sort of their first foray back into
01:38infectious disease with these three big vaccine deals this morning.
