00:06Nazım Nader, story tellerler.
00:08Beni'nin bu konusunda,
00:10''If you don't tell your story,
00:11someone else will.''
00:12So I'm really passionate
00:13about articulating experiences
00:15a lot of our generation
00:16from global diasporic backgrounds
00:17found difficult to express.
00:20So it's all about story,
00:22it's all about finding a vision
00:23for the future
00:24or a story for the future
00:25that we can bring
00:26as many people together
00:27along us with.
00:27I think I grew up in a very mixed household.
00:30I grew up in the West
00:31but I had heritage elsewhere.
00:32I was Western
00:33but I was Eastern at the same time
00:35and I kind of felt like
00:35that experience wasn't being
00:37articulated or expressed
00:38or represented in mainstream media.
00:40So I kind of realized
00:41that if I don't tell that story,
00:42no one else will.
00:43And I felt really passionate
00:45about being that person
00:46for a generation growing up,
00:48navigating unique difficulties
00:50and challenges,
00:51being alienated, maligned
00:53and ostracized in mainstream media.
00:55They needed people to look up to
00:57and I was one of many incredible people
00:59who provided a voice
01:01for that generation.
01:02So being that person
01:03was incredibly inspirational for me.
01:05And moving forward,
01:06it's really important
01:06we have a vision for the future
01:08and story can provide that.
01:10And we need a story
01:11to believe in,
01:11to be inspired by,
01:12because if the future
01:13is just gloom and doom,
01:15then we will never come together
01:16in a meaningful way.
01:17So very inspired
01:18about providing that light
01:19at the end of the tunnel.
01:20My mother used to say,
01:22in the context of a relationship,
01:24marriage,
01:25what keeps a husband
01:26and a wife together
01:27is not love,
01:29it's not money,
01:30but it's a shared vision.
01:31And when you share a vision
01:33with a partner,
01:34you're able to go through
01:35the long stretch of life together.
01:38And that's what every relationship with,
01:40whether it's community,
01:41friends or society, whatever,
01:43all of us need to come together
01:44around a shared story
01:45or a shared vision
01:46that we can continually work together for.
01:49And articulating what that vision
01:51is the hard part.
01:51We need to figure out
01:52what we as a community
01:53of human beings can come together
01:54and fight for,
01:56and sacrifice,
01:57and do what needs to be done
01:58for the greater good.
02:00And people are sick of being like,
02:02institutions coming in
02:03and representing them
02:03in ways they don't identify with.
02:05I think what's so powerful
02:06about the social media generation
02:07is that there are individuals
02:09that young people feel
02:10that they could hang out with
02:11on a Friday night,
02:11that they could be friends with.
02:13And that's what's so empowering
02:14and liberating about it.
02:16So when calamities happen
02:17or situations happen in the world
02:19and these individuals
02:20in which people feel
02:21like they like express things,
02:22they trust them more
02:23because they're not a faceless brand.
02:25They're human beings
02:26with stories and family
02:27and that's what makes them
02:30so powerful and relatable.
02:31But it's a double-edged sword
02:32because the same people
02:33can also be very disappointing
02:35if they don't step up to the courts.
02:38So being people with huge influence
02:40comes with incredible power
02:42but also huge responsibility.
02:44Greatest advice would be
02:47are you ready to take responsibility?
02:50I think so much of us
02:51have been obsessed with representation
02:53and we've seen over the last few years
02:55that actually representation in rooms
02:57where you are not taking responsibility
03:00for the people you claim to represent
03:03doesn't get us anywhere.
03:04Are you going into the room
03:05because it changes you
03:06or are you going to go into the room
03:08and change the room?
03:08So take ownership of that responsibility.
03:11Claim it unapologetically.
03:13Be emboldened by it.
03:14Don't never shrink yourself
03:15because whatever you think
03:17makes you niche
03:18or makes you difficult
03:19that's your superpower.
03:20So never cower down,
03:22never shrink yourself.
03:23Be bigger, bold and unapologetically you.
